In my opinion Fstorm it's one of the most (if is not the most) solid Gpu renderer engine. If you can grab a 3090(or 2) or a 4090 renders time concerns will be in the past. The only thing annoying is the lag with the speed of geometry update, I hope Andre fixed or add a pause every time a scene perceive a change so the interactive render move smoother.
@TextureSupply11 ай бұрын
Spoke to Andrey about this and he said that speeding up real-time geometry update is the next optimization he's working on :-)
@sacifair9 ай бұрын
It'll work in real time as long as you have lowres HDRIs, like he has in the video (about 1024x512) which isn't usual and you have to downscale all those x500 HDRIs before use it conveniently :D

Blender has built in (more than 10 years) environment texture & image texture node image sequence loader and switching frames changes images also, like in your video.
@TextureSupply5 ай бұрын
@@TynkaTopi 3ds max had this for xxx years as well, however this video isn't really about the sequence loader but rather that fstorm got an updated GPU bitmap loader making it a lot faster to update the real-time render than before.

@@TynkaTopi Thanks for commenting :) 3ds max had this for XX years as well, however this video isn't really about the sequence loader itself but rather that fstorm got an updated GPU bitmap loader making it a lot faster to update textures in the live render window than before. Prior to this update one could not scrub the timeline with image sequences without the render totally freezing up for a good while, so this way of working wasn't possible in fstorm.

Would nice if there was a blender exporter addon. I used to work with thea render and used the blender exporter for that. I've always worked on that addin a couple years adding features. It's huge work to make something, but these render engine was really great

Is this quick gpu texture loading exclusively implemented in fstorm? or was this an issue that only affected fstorm? I would like to know because I would love to introduce this technique into my office but be we use Corona. Do you have any idea if this bitmap loading is also quick in the corona bitmap? And if this quick gpu bitmap loading is present in corona, what would be a good resolution you would recomend where it doesnt take up all my ram and loads quickly (im assuming it's caching all the bitmaps in gpu memory so loading all 8k exr files might not be a good idea?)
@leodebrito589411 ай бұрын
This is a Fstorm updated. Not a 3dsMax update. So it will not work in Corona.
@maxximus890411 ай бұрын
@@leodebrito5894 i know, im just asking if corona also happens to have gpu texture loading in the corona bitmap or if its slower than this but i guess noone knows then.
@TextureSupply11 ай бұрын
@@maxximus8904 No idea about Corona. In theory it can do it. Not with GPU since Corona isn't GPU enabled at all, but RAM is very fast and should be able to do it correspondingly. I don't think it's about hardware limitations, but I would not be surprised if Corona isn't optimized enough to be able to handle it fluently. I'm not a Corona user. Maybe @RenderRam would know.

Hi Johannes. Can you tell how the cityscape was done? Is it some separate spherical map in the background apart from HDRIs that are casting light? Thanks in advance :)

Only you could know. Switching from blender means you have to learn 3Ds Max, and going from blender to 3Ds Max may feel like a huge step backwards in time and can probably be incredibly frustrating. In my opinion, FStorm makes it worth it if you're a freelancer and not in a collaborative environment with a big team.

It looks great. I have a question. Fstorm support Tyflow simulation? Can i render tyflow simulaion or i have to do something special to work?
@rajendrameena15011 ай бұрын
I think Fstorm is just a render engine and it can render tyflow simulation as well.
@CgfluxStudio11 ай бұрын
It's not that straightforward. Arnold Render and Octane have issues with certain types of simulations, and you need to improvise to make it work.
@TextureSupply11 ай бұрын
@@CgfluxStudio It works but you must tick some box in TyFlow to allow it to render as geometry and not as particles. FStorm isn't fully prepared for particle renering which is also noticable when for example trying to make foam in PhoenixFD. I think we still have to render that as a separat pass in another renderer.

Hi, excuse my ignorance, but isn't it the same if you rotate an HDRI? and see its lighting in real time?
@leodebrito589411 ай бұрын
What he is doing in this video is to test many diferent HDRIs to see which one he likes more. But instead of uploading them one by one and checking how the light effects the scene, he uploaded all of them at once and by moving the time line, he can change the HDRI that is effecting the scene.
@TextureSupply11 ай бұрын
Just like Leo said, it's a timelapse of 500 different hdris, one taken ever few minutes over the entire day. So there's morning, mid day, evening light, there are sunny bits and cloudy bits. I do rotate the Hdri too, but the function of the timelapse is to be able to control the weather and time of day. Your question is not at all ignorant however because I realize that I could've done a lot better job to show the entire daytime cycle. I may actually redo the video.

Nice to see new content on here Jo Jo. Is there a way to load HDRIs like this in VRay? I tried using a switch node with HDRI's plugged in but it was prone to crashing and you couldn't load 500+ in to it. Also doe's anyone know when FStorm will be updated to work with Max 2024?
@TextureSupply11 ай бұрын
FStorm works in 2024 since way back :-) Sadly I don't know about V-Ray. I use V-Ray occationally but only when I really have to, so I haven't had much reason to try this out. In theory it should work since animated IFL files is a 3Ds Max thing and not an FStorm specific thing, but I'm sure there could be plenty of reasons to why V-Ray wouldn't be able to do it fluently :D

Fstorm looks really nice. I've been using V-Ray 6 GPU, but in larger scenes it's slow with updating scene changes, even simple ones like changing textures or diffuse colors. I literally wait 5-10 seconds for the change to happen and my hardware should be good enough (Ryzen 7950x 16-core 5.7 Ghz, RTX 3090 24GB, 64GB DDR5-6400 RAM). How fast is Fstorm in such situations?
@TextureSupply11 ай бұрын
FStorm can be a bit sluggish when moving objects around while having the rendering updating in real-time (this is something that he's working on optimizing though). In that aspect, V-Ray is a lot quicker (for now). But that's pretty much the only thing I think V-Ray does better. In all other scenarios, at least in my book, FStorm crushes. I also experienced FStorm to render a lot quicker than V-Ray. I use V-Ray at work sometimes (IKEA) but everything takes at least 3x longer to render, especially with complex geometry and translucency, like carpets made with Forest Pack. I'm sure some optimizations could be made so I'm totally open to the fact that it may be user error, but most often I'm figuratively banging my head against the desk while using it :D
