If you buy a new Yaesu FT-710, the factory settings for the transmitter audio are muddled and weak sounding. The "EQ" settings are turned-off from the factory.
Yes, you can take it out of the box, with the factory settings, and it will transmit AM or SSB or FM.
When you decide you want to "Pep-Up" the FT-710 transmit audio quality you will need to adjust most of the "Parametric EQ" values. There are (9) values to set for the "non-processor EQ" mode, and another (9) for the "Processor EQ" mode. See video for enabling the "EQ" and the "Processor".
The factory hand mic needs to have the "MIC GAIN" set between 40 to 70. If the room is noisy or empty, you may need to set, the hand "MIC-GAIN", to 35'ish. The hand mic has low output compared to my Yaesu MD-100 desk mic. I run that at 30 to 40, in a quiet room. See the video for adjusting the "MIC GAIN".
The "Processor" works very well. It will help you with low distortion and high averaging transmitter audio. I use my FT-710 processor at 50 to 60 %. And I use it all the time. If you are in a noisy room,
you may want to set the "processor" at 25 to 45 %.
