Voice acting stars Rachael Lillis and Eric Stuart -- well known for voicing ‘Jesse’ and ‘James’ in the English dub of the “Pokémon” anime series -- discuss the show and their careers, and respond to fan questions at their 2019 Fan Expo Canada Q&A panel in Toronto.
Rachael Lillis is an American actress, voice actress and script writer. She studied acting in Boston and New York City and has appeared in various theater productions, animated series and independent films. Lillis's voice work can be heard in shows including Pokémon (seasons 1-8), Cubix, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Revolutionary Girl Utena. She has also lent her voice to video games. She has recorded several audio books including Diary of a Fairy Godmother, for which she performed the voices for about 25 characters. Her narration and character vocals can be heard in PBS programming as well, including Nova, American Masters and Sesame Street.
Eric S. Stuart is an American voice actor, voice director, musician, singer and songwriter who worked for 4Kids Entertainment, NYAV Post and Central Park Media. He provides voices for English dubs of anime, cartoons and video games. Some of his most prominent roles include Brock and James in Pokémon, Seto Kaiba in Yu-Gi-Oh! and Gourry Gabriev in Slayers. His rock band, the Eric Stuart Band, has toured with many acts including Peter Frampton (1999, 2000), Ringo Starr & His All-Starr Band (1997) and Lynyrd Skynyrd (1997), and has opened for Jethro Tull (1997), Julian Cope (1995), Hall & Oates (1997, 1998) and Chicago (1995, 1997, 1998). Frampton produced his album Blue, Dressed in Black.

I tried holding back my tears 😐. Unfortunately=( it's not just Rachael Lillis or my mom but many other people end up dying of that disease. I really hate to say the name of the disease that has taken the life of my mom, Rachael Lillis, and the lives of many other people. Which is the reason why I prefer the term C word instead referring to that disease that killed both my mom Rachael Lillis, and many others. I just hope that whoever died of any disease, violent painful death whether by foul play 💥🔫, car accident, burned alive etc can finally rest in peace 🙏.

Still can’t believe Rachael passed away! Watching season 1 of Pokémon right now! Just finished the episode “The Water Flowers of Cerulean City!” I’m 36 years old now. I remember back in 1999 in 4th grade my buddy Pete told me to go home and turn on Kid’s WB because Pokémon is on at 3:30. First episode I saw at 11 years old was “Island of the Giant Pokémon!” Still love the original cast episodes and movies. Haven’t really followed the new shows once they discontinued with the original cast. Rest in Peace Rachael! You very much blessed my childhood and still do! 😢🙏

I had the pleasure meeting Rachel Lillis the first time at LA Collect a Con 2024 and she was so sweet and kind. What did break my heart was that she was very pale and was struggling to sign prints for me and everyone who met her that day. She signed a Pokemon collab pic with all the characters she voiced in the show. Months later, I find out she was struggling physically because she had breast cancer during this time which spread to her spine 😢😞. Even tho she was in agony and pain, she never wanted to disappoint her fans and still had a smile in her face. Rest in peace, Rachel Lillis. 😭😞

Hearing Eric talk about 4kids' censorship has made me realise that it isn't fair to blame 4kids or other companies for anime censorship on television. The ones who deserve the blame are the television networks.

@@Gedi2211 Agreed, Eric has said in a couple of past panels when he talks about censorship that when they had a show to air during that specific time slot on a network station, he said the networks control everything from what the viewers see to what they will allow to be shown during that time. You know, Eric does do voice acting/directing 101 panels at some of the cons he goes to where he actually answers questions specific to going into that field and one thing he said during one of those panels is that censorship should be up to the parents and that specific household to determine, but parents just stuck their kids in front of the TV and never paid any attention to what they were actually watching. And that is so true, especially back in the day, the parents could care less what the kid was watching, as long as the tv kept them quiet.

they keep saying jessie and james are good people and while thats great to believe when your acting and doing terrible things to ground them so you dont act too evil and make them acceptable for kids listening so you don't lose them, they do try to kill ash sometimes...they only fail to do so cause he avoids it...so...they are pretty bad people at the end of the day in the moment when their not thinking about anything but the success of the mission they do get heartless...now I don't think they plan on killing him at first but if circumstances come up where ash is in their way they will not think twice about seriously hurting him so their not planned terrorists they just happen to terrorize when their robberies go wrong
