A couple of things that I’d like to point out is in Pokémon Snap they used the Japanese anime voice for Porygon, even though it was given an English voice for a “Who’s That Pokémon” segment. And in Poképark Wii, Porygon-Z had to have a voice made exclusively for that game, as it had not appeared in the anime. That’s two members of the Porygon line with three voices between them, and we still don’t have an anime-style voice for Porygon2!

One of the major reasons: the switch can hold 32Gb without an SD card. Scarlet and Violet are already 10Gb. Probably be around 13Gb total if they allowed you to download "voice packs" for your preferred language(s). That means kids who dont know what an SD card is can hold exactly 2 pokemon games on their switch at that point instead of the 3 currently possible.

The big problem with voice acting in the mainline games, apart from characters and Pokémon having different names depending on the language, is that casting choices for all languages will not please everyone, and 100% choosing your language at the start of the game will restrict text AND voice to that for the whole game.

Gamefreak's reasoning (for the most part) is understandable. Having to make 8 different dubs is a hard task and considering voice acting is not done in one snap and you have to take multiple takes to *_perfect_* it. They have the money that is *NOT* an exception however the release date being delayed because of voice acting would enrage the fans thus the fanbase declines.

Another thing to consider is that pokemon games allow you to choose your name. And that helps with inmersion a lot. And all the characters refer to you by that name . But they wouldn't be able to use the name you choose in a voice acted game.

That’s a better excuse, but still not a great one for the most successful multi-medium franchise that isn’t just “Disney”. Simple solution: just… don’t… use the name in the conversations. Think about it, anyways. If you’re WITH someone talking you don’t normally need to use their name in the conversation, you can EASILY get away with it. Hell, I’ve seen games where they simply don’t say the name but it’s still in the text box but guess what; the sentences still make full sense.

For Shez and Byleth, what that game does is only have their name said by character when the dialogue isn’t fully voiced. If it is fully voiced, Byleth is typically called “The Ashen Demon”, their mercenary nickname, while Shez is called some other stuff depending on the character mentioning them.

While they can TECHNICALLY be spoken the same, usually simplified Chinese represents mandarin, while traditional represents either Cantonese or mandarin (sometimes). Funny you should bring up the PPP scene because that was VERY fun to voice when I did a playthrough. You bring up Ted Lewis and his weird pronunciations in Stadium, and that he was also the voice of Giovanni but not how he can't seem to pronounce the name of his own character? He says it like "joe-vanni" "I do not want my dog to laugh when I pet it" boy you should look into parrots haha You know, I'd take Piers's silence over Roxie's "spelling one word is totally lyrics you guys". Honestly wtf. Both of them should have had some sort of harmonizing. Wait the show Akari's VA is credited on is either "My Perfect Man" or "My Beautiful Man" depending on the image you show. Btw it's been confirmed that the Hisuian Zorua reveal trailer does NOT feature Rei, so whoever it was that got merked by Zoroark is unknown. Though...one wonders where someone who isn't the player character got a video camera in the 1870s. Funnily enough, it was confirmed by Erica Mendez, since she voice directed that trailer! It's a shame New Snap didn't have Todd's anime actor. I got Kaiji Tang's autograph at a con and he said he was so disappointed that the movie didn't say "a bolt of brilliance!" at any point. Why is Masters so weird with their voice actors anyways? The English version scrubs out the voice credit on the character trailers despite them being present in Japanese, and some actors claim they're unable to state that they appear in the game at all (and yet others are...?) Courtney doesn't even sound robotic in Masters. She's also probably one of the worst handled characters in the game. Also, no bad voices? Brawly's voice is so terrible that I avoid using him just so I don't have to listen to him. Wait was that Veronica Taylor as Julie? Anyway I have a heck of a good time voicing all the games when i play them! And you can check them out in my history. I do voice work in a lot of projects (if you've ever watched anything by Rabtoons I'm probably in it) but doing these playthroughs is a special time!

I don’t mean to be that guy, but I wouldn’t really call Roxie & Elesa’s gym themes true voice acting. It’s just the music being diegetic in the same vein as Team Star’s music; it gives the illusion that Roxie actually is singing, but it’s still just the soundtrack. Although I will say, as much as I love Piers, he really should’ve gotten the same treatment as you suggested, that silent cutscene was very awkward.

I see where you're coming from. I just thought for the sake of being thorough, I'd put them in. Plus, plenty of people do consider it to be voice acting, so I'd get many comments telling me I missed them.
