I love the challenge of a new species and one not typical bonsai material. It’s so great to see the progression of your trees in one episode. That’s patience my friend!

Great work on this fuchsia Billy! Fuchsia is one of those species that I have had on my list for many years but never got around to getting. The flowers look amazing.. maybe I should get my wife one since she really only cares about flowers, according to her bonsai is irrelevant if there are no flowers!
@baldyeti Жыл бұрын
Sounds like you e got yourself into one of those win/win situations, brother!

Great vid. Always wondered whether fuchsia could be used as bonsai. Such a pretty flower - sure is programmed to bloom. Will be fun to follow in the new growing year.

Thank you, Sue. I don’t know if it’s a true bonsai-able plant either. But it’s pretty fun to practice techniques with, responds well.

I would have never thought you could bonsai a Fuscia. Nice work Billy. Candice’s “short” turned me on to this series. We all help each other. What an awesome community we are.

It is pretty cool, isn’t it? Between Candice & Dave from Dave’s Bonsai, the knowledge just flows. I’m glad I could give back a bit. I appreciate the visit, I hope you stick around for more, Steve.

Nice work! I respect your patience. I started working on a little tiny clearance fuchsia from Walmart - just an experiment. My goal was to grow it as a "standard", as I think they're called (center trunk ramrod straight with a ball of foliage at the top). Trunk is pretty thin and it never reached taller than 12 inches. But its cute as heck and when I leave the buds, it flowers like crazy. Its at the 2 year mark. Thanks for sharung this project! I need to find a different subspecies of fuchsia.
@baldyeti3 ай бұрын
@@kathleenmecca1435 that sounds pretty cool. I can imagine a “forest” of those! This one died as I failed to overwinter it properly. But the cuttings I’ve grown out for a couple years have some relatively decent diameter trunks! So for all future fuchsia projects, I’ll be giving them a few years to grow out. Thank you for watching and commenting!

Looking really good! I'm also trying to train a couple of fuchsias but they just hate me. When I give them more sun they get burned. When I put them in the shade they grow leggy because they need more light. When bringing them indoors for winter they drop all the leaves. I'm clearly not the right person to grow this species. :) Keep up the good work Billy!
@baldyeti Жыл бұрын
Daggum, that sounds frustrating. I wonder if the European version is more picky and temperamental. I hope you have better luck this growing season, I’d love to see you post a video on yours.
@OddBonsai Жыл бұрын
@@baldyeti I'm pretty sure that I'm the problem. I've seen other people in my area growing it without struggling. I'm definitely missing something :) I may make a video at some point if I get the hang of growing them. Or I can make a video on what not to do to a fuchsia. I seem to be pretty good at that. I think I managed to kill one of the two this winter. :)

Mmm, hardy kiwi…definitely going to be getting a male and female of those this spring (if I can find some healthy ones). Thank you. It’s a fast grower and a lot of fun. And yes, the flowers are killer.

The flower are great on these, I would start one when I find the hardy one in my local nursery. I usually transition anything I have indoors to outdoors by leaving them in 80% shade for 2 weeks... or if you want to defoliate them then just put it in the sun lol, no don't do that, sometimes it burns the green branches lol
