Changed mine yesterday using your instructive video. Ford owners manual for my 2017 F-350 says about 6L will drain from the water separator, but because of others comments I had 2 - 1 gallon jugs standing by. I started getting worried when the 2nd one was 3/4 full but it stopped at 1-3/4 gallons. Owners manual also says to cycle the ignition 6 times and it took that many times for mine to fill. Great and resourceful video. Thanks again.

The only thing that is inconsistent between trucks is the amount of time it takes to drain the water separator. Some guys say it just goes and goes and they give up after a a couple of gallons. I've never had more than a half gallon come out but just be ready to catch fuel in a clean container and let it finish. No need to disconnect fuel lines above.

Great video. Alot of people don't understand how critically important it is to change these filters on the 6.7L at regular intervals. Failure to do so will likely lead to the high pressure fuel filter to lock up and shred metal all downstream into the fuel system, and the ONLY repair at that point will involve an $8K to $10 repair and pretty much the only place that can do it properly is the Ford dealer.... The filters can get clogged enough to restrict diesel to the HP fuel pump (the diesel itself lubricates that pump) and then it locks up.

I recall requesting that video from you 2 years ago haha. Glad to see you back on the tube. I noticed at the end you didn’t prime the fuel pump 6 times as supposedly required.
@EpicCowlick5 жыл бұрын
Lol. I haven't broken the little nubs off yet but I have a replacement in the tool box just in case. What's worse is that you can break the plastic channel off that the plug tabs glide in. Then you're replacing the entire assembly. Heard about that on the interwebs and I can see how it can happen. Yeah, sorry it took so long. It was worth the wait though! I think I only prime about 4 times now.

@michaelmurray22404 жыл бұрын
I just made this mistake and broke off the clip on the old filter. How do I fix this?
@itsme789324 жыл бұрын
@@michaelmurray2240 The only way to fix it back to OEM is to buy a new return fuel line, a $2-300 part. There are a few "repair" kits you can get. One from North Coast Diesel Performance, another from Accurate Diesel. My solution was to get the H&S Motorsports fuel filter conversion. Not only does that setup remove the crappy OEM return line quick disconnect, it also prevents the possible future failure of the OEM filter which has in a few cases caused these trucks to burn to the ground. I also use the CAT 150-4142 filter with this setup, which filters down to the same micron rating as the OEM.

If you're talking about the filter on top of the engine, it's likely a hair-line crack in the filter itself. I've heard about that several times. Change the filter and the drip is gone. Don't change it and one day it will spray diesel fuel right on the exhaust manifold. No bueno.

Great video! Love the channel. Question... How much fuel drained out? I have done mine twice and the first time only about 1 Gallon drained out but yesterday I did it and 3.5 gallons drained. Thanks!
@EpicCowlick4 жыл бұрын
This is an inconsistent thing. On the day I did this video, only a half gallon or so came out. I don't know if it's related to fuel level in the tank. Ford's instructions say to disconnect one of the fuel hoses on top of the separator but that is a pain and likely not good for those little fragile clips. I've heard that some guys will loosen the screws holding the fuel separator housing just a bit until it lets air in and breaks the vacuum. Then it will drain only the housing and not siphon fuel from the tank. I'm going to try this next service and see how that goes.

So, I've asked many sources from Dealers to county waste sites and no one can tell me, or they don't want too, WHERE to dispose of the fuel you drain out, with out without water in it. Can you answer that ?? Seems like you're doing this at home.
@darknessmoto99124 ай бұрын
Save it in a small fuel can or bottle. When me and my buddies all go camping we all bring a cup or two of diesel from our filter changes and toss it in the campfire. Some auto shops will take bad fuel as well as used oil and transmission fluid. Most fire stations will also dispose of flammable fluids.
@randyfrei12294 жыл бұрын
Mine will not stop running fuel out of the water separator? What am I doing wrong?
@EpicCowlick4 жыл бұрын
I've heard of that happening but haven't experienced it myself. Try opening the fuel cap so any pressure in the system is relieved. You can also unscrew the water separator a little bit to break the seal between the upper and the lower "box" part of the assembly. When air is allowed into the water separator box, the vacuum is lost and siphoning will stop. The other thing I've heard to do is to make sure you change the filters when the tank is near empty.
