I am a fleet mechanic for a public utility in California. The majority of our larger trucks are the Navistar 7500 series, our smaller trucks are exclusively Super Duties. I have suffered through the 7.3/6.0/6.4 and now the 6.7. We still have a lot of Gen 1 6.7s but they are slowly being replaced by the newest 6.7. I don't know why it took Ford this long to come up with a more efficient lower fuel filter. I wish they had done this years ago, but I gladly welcome the change. The problem with the older filters is the trucks spend a lot of time off road and by the time I have to change the lower filter it is caked under an inch of dried mud. I have to blast it with a pressure washer before I can find it. Something I want to add it our trucks spend a better part of their time idling. The users drive them to the job site, then the truck spends all day idling to run the PTO. This is why we schedule our services by hours instead of miles. If your viewers use their trucks in the same fashion, I recommend changing the fuel filters about every 500 hours. Thank you for sharing this video and especially for driving home the point of draining the water separator. I try to encourage the users to drain them regularly. But, as long as the truck gets them from point A to point B, they don't do anything else. I can spend hours telling horror stories of what water can do to a fuel system.

The 17 and 18 have a strait line that breaks very easy, that's a support to keep it from snapping off. The 17 needs to have the top filter removed first else it won't break the siphon on the bottom filter and you can drain a lot of fuel from you tank. Ford change something in the later models that stop this

New to the powerstroke world, but is it normal for it to sound like your filling up a fountain drink when its priming after doing the rear filter? I get that its building pressure and filling up the filter, but just want to make sure i didnt miss align the filter or something stupid like that. The filter was snapped in the lower housing, and the lower housing mated up to the upper housing without any issues. Sorry if its a dumb question, its my first time doing one of these.

It was last year a builder in the area he's got a 12 or 13 6.7 deleted you know the exhaust on his truck smelled like a 7.3. The emissions crap on these trucks I can see how it hurts fuel economy etc. All the plastic these new diesel trucks have is disgusting what happened to good cast aluminum with spin on filters or cartridge filters, plastic parts are a failure point.

So much effort to remain loyal to the diesel. Probably worth it for commercial but the added cost of a diesel for a hormone-deficient, F-250 buyer that has the cash available to buy that testosterone boost is quite questionable.

It’s too bad F O R D did not stand behind the $10,000.00 repair on the 2011 to 2016. Mine only had 28k miles. The water in the fuel light never came on. $10,006.00 repair. They lost a long time customer. I now have two 7.3. Injectors fire with oil not fuel. I can control the quality of the oil.😤🤬😫🤬

So I don't have a 2020, my Dad does and I'll be doing this for him....how do you cycle the "key" on and off 6 times for 10 seconds at a time, if it's the push button w/fob? I'm not being a smart ass, I really want to know, I'm not familiar with the push button, accel on w/o starting.

I have been very good about changing the filters but very bad about draining it that often. I thought the truck would notify via computer sensor if water was at all present and would prompt you when to drain. I have 73,000 miles and no water thank god. Another problem is finding a location to dispose of the fuel. We full time RV and sometimes it is a problem.

Draining the lower filter now and I’ve collected nearly a 2 gal bucket. Normal? Also, I’m at 25k miles and just learned of the draining maintenance from your video. Not sure if my two prior dealer maintenance visits included this.

Not gonna lie brother I’ve been doing this wrong. Normally I drain the fuel and while it’s draining I then replace the canister fuel filter on the engine then replace the cartridge filter on the tank. Once done that’s when I cycle the on/off button but not for 10sec. I do it for 30sec and only 4 times. After that I fire it up check for leaks and ride off into the sunset. John Wayne style. And just so you know I’m not a diesel technician just a diesel owner from way back. But after seeing this I realize the potential of debris being trapped in the lines from the cartridge filter to the canister filter. So I’m thankful for the information in your videos. And on a side note raise hell shit the bed.

I am brand new to the power stroke world. This was a great vid. There is a lot of great aftermarket filters out there. That I have used on all my gassers f250. With no problems. Just asking and wondering why you are recommending Motorcraft Products?

This is the third video i've watched for changing fuel filters. I don't know how youtube arranges videos, but I'm sure glad I watched as many as I did. The first was not very good, the guy just pulled the top filter straight up and pushed the new one down and was kind of rushed on the fuel line connections, the second video was better, this is the third one and by far the best! Enough detail so that I feel confident in doing this myself. Will check back after it warms up a bit and I get it done.

It's actually in your owner's manual you're supposed to take A-line off the top of the housing but if you get a large Tupperware container and just rip the bolts out you can just make a big mess real quick and it will be done. That's what I do I don't wait for anything to drain I just rip the bolts out let it douche and it's done
