Thanks Jill, yes I struggle to keep him out of this old stuff now - what have I done!?!??! :)

I love it, "Tell me that's not fun!" What a great sense of accomplishment of getting an old car running again. You won't get that playing video games.

@@oldclassiccarUK My Dad thought me to work on cars. He was an engineer and was able to put his hand to just about anything. I always was by his side wanting to learn. I became an engineer as well and always did my own work on my cars. I'm 68 and it wasn't as much fun as it use to be until I bought a 1937 Plymouth. I have rediscovered the fun of working on cars again. My 9 year old grandson has shown an interest and I am more than pleased to show him. I have told him after I'm gone you can have all my tools and everything in the shed as well. He was over the moon!

This brings back happy memories. My dad started me driving at 12 as well (70 years ago). Mind you it was pretty easy for me since the Riley 9 had a Wilson pre-selector gearbox and a centrifugal clutch. My friends were always impressed with the smooth way I changed gears!
@oldclassiccarUK4 жыл бұрын
He started out at about 9 yrs with the grey Fergie tractor, since then he's tried three more cars and a lorry, so he's getting the practice in. No pre-selectors as yet though!!

Oh wow, I've just worked my way back through some of your older videos - how your son has grown up in a year, even got his own channel ! I was probably about 12 when my Dad taught me to drive in a private car park behind where we lived. I learned SO MUCH from him, without realising it, and I often think of him when I'm doing things - Thanks Dad :-)

Awww the look on Juniors face was priceless. I remember my dad teaching me to drive his Austin 12, I think I might even been a bit younger than him. Memories he’ll have for ever 🤗

Yes he's up for test-driving anything he can get his mitts on now :)

You are very lucky to have such a great lad that is so interested in classic/any cars. My son is the same and it is such fun being involved in the history of transport. You must be so proud of him

Lovely to see progress. Memories of Dad letting me drive his Austin Cambridge at the age your son is, though my Dad wasn't quite so forgiving 😂

Spent the afternoon fettling the Morris, slight progress made

We used to carry a spare set of points for the fuel pump. I had a 1937 occasional 4 four seat Tourer as my first car in 1962. I loved it.

I went for a walk yesterday evening and there was a very young tractor driver harrowing a field. I think he was a little older than 12 but certainly not beyond 14.

Back home in Minnesota the farm kids could drive a tractor to school long before they were old enough to drive a car.

Certainly appears to be a Morris 8 diff. There was a period when the diff housing was made of Aluminium. These proved to be very fragile and would crack easily under drive. Check yours isn't Alu , other than that as you say driving will show any wear though I believe you could hear the diff. You are now ahead of me as I have yet to drive mine ! Incidentally there is a dipstick on the diff, access gained from removal of the center panel under the rear seat. Don't fill it to the high mark but just above the low mark. This will help prevent the hub seals leaking into the brake drums.

Useful info, thanks Richard, did the factory ever produce a workshop manual for 8s? Or is it something the club may have produced at some point?
@richardsellers-smith94964 жыл бұрын
@@oldclassiccarUK There is an Information Manual available from the Register for the Series 1,2,E & Z 1935-1953 which is very helpful. It's not much £10/12. And there are manuals on the Registers web site as reference and download. The owners manual which came with the car and come up on ebay at various prices are pretty good as owners were encouraged to do their own maintenance in many cases. Of course the Register Forum and Morris 8 Facebook page are good sounding posts as well.
@oldclassiccarUK4 жыл бұрын
@@richardsellers-smith9496 Thanks, yes I picked up an owner's manual the other day. I'll probably end up joining the MR anyway so will check out their publications then. I appreciate the advice

Where could I find one of these even if just partly restored? What a great little engine. Nice work.

Hi, they pop up for sale from time to time - maybe ebay, or one of the classic car classifieds sites. If you're dead-set on a Morris, maybe think about joining the Morris Register and put the word out there.

Can you give details of the larger vehicle next to the the Morris 8 please

Nope, unleaded is fine especially just for pottering up and down the drive
