You're better off switching tanks to one from a 92-93 that uses the plastic screw on ring versus the hose clamp style that breaks. The newer model also uses a higher psi pump. I think its 46psi versus the 15psi unit. The older one tends to leak off pressure when not running.

Do you have a video on swapping the pumps in the pump basket?

You guys are brave working on the fuel pump module like that. Had mine shatter in my 89 W250 and it took a week to find one 4 states away. Luckily the one in my 89 Shelby Dakota was in good shape to reuse and for both fuel pump modules I used a kit from Quantum Fuel Systems

My 87 d150 has a mechanical pump. How would that work? Would I need a whole new Sending unit?
@kirbywinters1291 Жыл бұрын
I think you have a few options 1. get a tank from a 91-93 truck and use a Holley drop in replacement fuel sending unit and fuel pump. 2. Get a tank from a 91-93 use the oem sending unit with a aftermarket pump installed in place of the oem one and use the c5 corvette regulator like they did in this video. 3. Holley sells a complete replacement tank you could use that and their sending unit which is the more expensive option. 4. You could try using what you have already in the truck and putting a different pump in your OEM sending unit.

Tire dates started being mandatory in 2000. You have 22+ year old tires.
@SUBLIMEparts2 жыл бұрын
No, I think they are just not typical US DOT labeled (oval with week and year of production). The only thing we saw called out 6120 or 6121 which could be June 1st of that year, but that’s not typical tire nomenclature. They are odd for sure.

Even easier is use an external pump with the corvette filter. That’s what I did. Pulls fuel from the pickup in the tank as easily as the mechanical pump did. Don’t have to drop the tank. Easy to change pump if you ever need to.
@SUBLIMEparts2 жыл бұрын
We typically do not do external fuel pumps, for several reasons. 1. Being mounted in the tank is quieter, as the fuel itself is and insulator/sound dampener. 2. Reduced stress on the pump by not having to suck fluid up and out of the fuel tank. Typically there is drain back and temporary starvation of the fuel pump. This doesn’t happen if you use a sumped fuel cell, but it does with stock tanks. 3. A submersed fuel pump inside the tank is actually cooled by the fuel around it, which prolongs pump life and increases reliability.

@@SUBLIMEparts My fuel pump is a Bosch pump that was made for a late 90s Ford E150 van. Mounted on the frame in rubber and foam. Can't hear it at all during key on prime - and especially not when running with the flowmasters. The inline pumps run fuel around the pump motor to cool it - remember many OE applications used inline pumps - so no worries there. My pump is angled downward with the feed coming in from the top - so the inlet stays full of fuel. When I key on, the gauge near the engine jumps up to 60psi instantly even after setting for days. The feed line is only a foot long, so I'm not worried about the short time it might take to pull fuel up if some does happen to drain back. I ran the same setup in my 91YJ with a 2010 4.7L in it for years. Off road, sand dunes, day long highway trips, towing. No problems at all. Super easy to change if there is ever a problem. I wouldn't think twice about it. Just saying that there is an easier way that works great.

Well I just picked up a nice 05 hemi and trans and I removed every single piece of the wiring harness and the throttle pedal my holley mounts showed up yesterday so looks like I have a decision to make I have a 90 single cab long bed v6 dakota and I'm looking at a 93 short cab short bed dakota but it's a 2.5l, I also picked up a 3.73 lsd 8.8 disk rear I want to just get it in and running. I can use the stock 05 fuse box and just clip the wires going to the accessories I'm not using right? Is there a list out there I can download to help me figure out what I actually need instead of what I want! When I started this project a couple of months ago things were going great now I'm really limited on funds so I'm just looking to make it reliable so I can drive it daily until things turn around any help would be great!!

I have a question! Hopefully you can help. I have a 1982 D150 with a 1993 5.9L 360 engine currently. Going to do a 5.7 Hemi swap soon but have a question about the fuel pump you guys are running. My current fuel pump does not look anything like your sending unit. I know you replaced the pump with the GSS340 but what top piece did you use to get the proper ports for the fuel lines. My current pump does not have any of those options just one port/line running from the tank to the engine intake.
