The next step in our Forgotten Fastback project Mustang is to install a fuel tank and Scott Drake sending unit. With the price of gas, there is no better time to replace your rusted or leaking original Mustang fuel tank!
This North American made Mustang fuel tank has been pressure tested twice and is a direct replacement for the original fuel tank with the correct 16 gallon capacity. It is also coated to prevent rust and corrosion. The fuel sending unit from Scott Drake is a quality part, featuring zinc plated steel construction and a 3/8" hose fitting.
For installation, you'll want to first install the sending unit on the fuel tank before placing inside your Mustang, as demonstrated by Bill. Then, install some strip caulk on your Mustang and lower the fuel tank into place. Secure with the appropriate hardware and install the fuel filler pipe and fuel filler hose. Total installation takes about an hour.

where the ground wire goes? I have some problems with my gas gauge it does not read right and I put a new sending unit too, thanks

after I bondo around the line of the gas tank holder n sand it down would I then add the caulk strip ?

I would normally agree with you but since this hose is designed to have fuel run though it on a regular basis the WD-40 shouldn't be much of an issue.

Is that Eastwood strip caulk the same type you should use for a windshield install?

I would not recommend that for a windshield install, you want to use the correct window adhesive.

This flat caulking works well. Was told that installing the 69 gets you 22 gallons.

I think that's the 70 tank. It'll be 2" taller in the trunk. 69 gets you 20 gallons but only sticks up 1" higher in the trunk.

A lot of people say these cars are dangerous because of where the gas tank is located. I know there have been a lot of news articles supporting claims of wildfire and explosion, but is there any truth behind this or alternative to getting a safer revamp?
