FUEL TEST! Does driving slower improve fuel economy?

I tow a 2.6T Van & use about 16.5L/100km sitting around 95-100kmh (21 Hilux) & about 14L/100km cruising on 80kmh, but I always try to stick to the Speed Limits as I find its a safer way to travel & also courteous to other drivers & Trucks in particular

Usually about 90 is good, and ragers go around and other courteous ones just slot in somewhere.

Melbourne has the worst traffic in Australia. Stop start 40 km everywhere that's the biggest drain on fuel once you hit the open road and you have a constant speed and Momentum you actually use less than idling. Good report and content Cheers 🇭🇲😀👍🍻🍻

Figured this would be the case. Just curious as to whether incline up a hill would be the same or if it would use more to take longer getting up? I pay as much attention to Revs as speed and try to keep them down

Like from the comments below one variable you could control is time. Fuel is important to understand, also travel time from point a to b. I really appreciate any help you can supply.

Wouldn't a trip away from city been a better test, less traffic and time not limited by speed limit, so can maintain either 80 or 100?

That's a fair point and we almost did exactly that; however, it's something we can look at in the near future as a follow-up.

Yes there is, for the $25 a day you may save, you piss off every other person on the road and create so many desperate moves from people who follow. I tow at the rated speed whether it is 90, 100 or 110. I personally can't stand slow caravaners. Move on, we don't have XF carburettored Falcons any more. Speed up and get there sooner and with a lot less risk to other road users

80km in a 100km zone is hardly driving miss daizy tho. These days people are so entitled on the roads, not only do they lose their minds if someone is doing 80km in a 100km zone, but often they lose their minds trying to overtake you even if you are up to the speed limit.
