Three giant stockpile dozers getting fueled at the end of a days shift- a Cat D11R, D10N, and a 1989 Fiat-Allis FD50. Like this video and want to see more mining? Then follow the PA today, it's what I do!

Everyone got D10’s and D11’s but when you show up to the party with an FD50 you know you’re somebody!…probably one of the only FD50’s still working in North America!..quite the brute!!..not sure if you have done a documentary on one but if you haven’t then I would say it’s time to do it!

@@PAmining I have the pleasure of knowing an old time Fiat Allis/Massey Ferguson mechanic…he’s well into his 80’s now and still does a little wrenching on the side…I call him up every so often to listen to his incredible stories of doing field mechanic work on these old brutes from back in the 70’s and early 80’s…he worked on many 31’s and told me they, like the loaders had far too much power and if you weren’t careful with them they would walk right out of their saddle!..he had to take one or three apart in his day and put the transmission back into the same spot it was when it left the factory!..huge job on a machine that size…I can only imagine how much worse it would be on an FD50…he has some great Massey stories too…a real super mechanic with a great deal of finesse!!…my best friends dad was a mechanic for a gypsum mine for 30+ years and he worked on lots of big gear too!!..we’re losing our great mechanics!..I can’t see how the new generation is going to keep up with the likes of the old guard!!

Fueling time gives the general public an idea of just how big these machines are. Monsters of immense power. See how high up the fuel tank inlet is. That's a heavy hose but these guys make it look easy. Good job PAmining, very good informative vids.

@@PAmining The old HD41B , HD31B and D10L I operated had the wiggins fast fuel station on the ripper lift ram and the HD41B had a higher pay rate the D10 and out pushes the D10L on pre stripping , I love the HD41B and HD31B most ran to the D10L. Most hated the 41B because they kept getting the hydraulic pin puller mixed up with the blade control.

Pretty relaxed place to work. Their really tight about where I work when I get fueled up, the truck has to come into a disabled dozer (engine shutoff, implements on the ground) after getting contact on the radio, theres a quick connect to fill the fuel tank on the ripper so no need to bring the line all the way up, if you were seen outside a piece of equipment without all of your PPE on you were in big trouble. Just strikes me as odd is all the difference in safety policies.

That really all depends on how hard their working. Dozers are relatively good on fuel. The fuel consumption all depends on what task the dozer is doing. A dozer working under a hoe keeping the floor clean will burn less fuel than a dozer working on moving overburden.

we use Wiggins quick fill nozzles. They fill from the bottom of the tank from a quick disconnect fitting mounted on the ripper frame. they automatically kick off from back pressure when fuel covers the vent pipe near the top of the tank.

We usually fuel/grease at the end of the day or early in the morning because the plant is on "demand metering" and you can't start grinding before 9 a.m. Depends on what I'm doing as to when I fuel up. Grader- usually at the start. Loader- before everything shuts off so I'll be out of everybody elses way when it does and clean up later. Truck- at the end. Hoe- when they bring the fuel truck by. Dozer- the same. All in a day and we have our own "trouble"! All mines have them! Some say that I am, but what do they know. Life's too short to be unhappy!!!

+Lewie McNeely Question. Since you seem experienced; how much fuel would something like a d11 hold? And how long does that last in a typical day? They must be awful pricey to operate.
@lewiemcneely9143
@lewiemcneely9143 8 жыл бұрын
We just have a D-6 R and it's around 150. The haul trucks are about the same and take around 45 a day. I can burn a half a tank in a 115 but it's around 250 size tank. Just depends on how much work you get per gallon. A 115 will lift 18 tons per bucket full. You can move a lot of stuff in an hour with it. Depends on the machine and the job. A 115 can pick up and tote. A dozer has to push. Lot of variables to deal with. I suppose it all depends on the end product or result. I'm just an operator. Someone doing the books would have to really give you an answer. They know the dollars and cents coming in and going out and the bills for fuel and the like and how often it's delivered. Hope that helps some but I know it's not much of an answer.

Sure, Roger. Every job is different. I was on a dam job and walked the 8 all the way back to the dam every evening where the fuel tank was. At the quarry it just depended where you were going with what. If you passed the pump and didn't get fuel you got gnawed on for it. Better be safe than sorry I suppose. Sure a fuel truck can go better than a big tractor and ought to. Logical to us both!

@Markmeblablabla yop! there's a different manner everywhere!! for me we fuel the dozers, the loaders and the Demag on the begining of the shift with a fuel truck! At the station the graders and the wheel dozers are fueled on the begining too and the haul trucks at the middle of the shift and some other like water tank truck on summer or sand spreader truck on winter! We fuel them every 12hr shift! we have a quick-plug fuel nozzle so the engine are still runing in winter they don't get cold !!

Every mine is different, every company has different rules. It's no different than fueling your car- shut machiune off and fuel. Where I work at the end of the shift, all the haul trucks line up alongside the fuel truck, one by one drive up, shut down, get fueled, and then fire up and head to the garage.
@PAmining
@PAmining 13 жыл бұрын
Haha, the 11's haulin ass because it's quitting time for the operators! The fuel truck goes to every machine at quitting time to fuel the equipment so they're ready for the next day.

So how does a guy get a start in one of these places? Over in Scotland I would have to knock over a bank to get the training fees for machines like that! Ive done car cleaning (Valeting) and would happily start off with jet washing the machines! Hell, Id go so far as to sweep the cabs out and leave a little pine tree freshner on the rear view mirror! Lol
