So glad to have you in POL. I was in POL for over 17 years and even though it was a couple of decades ago, so much is still the same. Especially about the joking and comradery, the brother and sisterhood and the recruiters trying to get the slots filled first for Security and Fuels. WE could pick our jobs back then before we joined, but there were no bonuses. Cooks were also added as always in big need. In fact, if some troops washed out of their tech school, often Security, Fuels or cooks would receive them.

Wait! Fuels (Fuel Systems) and Fuels (POL) are two different jobs that are confused a lot. I thought I was going to refuel aircrafts but Fuels was Fuel Systems. So careful saying fuels. Rarely had to call POL but always had to make sure they are calling me and not the other airmen when production calling for Fuels.

She said she was POL at the beginning of the video. In LRS we just say Fuels so she’s not wrong.
@TrizerFlame5 жыл бұрын
c0smiclaur if you call Fuels over the radio you’ll always get Fuel Systems. I shared an office with our LRS when deployed and they thought we did ground refueling. It confusing on the recruiting side because everyone is thinking Fuels is POL but they are coded for 2A6x4 (Fuel Systems) and find out at tech school. So if someone say they want to go into Fuels they would get slotted in 2A because we’re undermanned on maintenance and Fuels is specialized. Mick Funny 1A0x1 are in flight refuelers (boomers). It’s the only job with a bed. The ones I’ve met do a lot of TDYs if you like to travel though if you go in and go to KC-46 base it may be a while before you get in the air during the airframe transition phase.
@moniqueellsworth93805 жыл бұрын
We say POL or fuels. We usually say fuels because people don’t know what POL is unless you explain it. I’ve never been confused for fuels system in my career. But if you say you’re in LRS they’ll know exactly what you’re talking about!

This was great! I was POL and served in AK and NM. I will say... It sucked! 40 below zero in Fairbanks Alaska and lightning storms all summer in Clovis NM (the ballsack of the devil). Imagine checkpoint every day, running 40+ trucks through a maintenance line, 24 hour shifts... and like she mentioned, test scores that didn't require much more than a monkey's brain. So prepare to surround yourself with idiots. Best advice I can give... Study for your entrance test and get a good guaranteed job. Do not let yourself pull hoses and hold deadman's on a flight line. Plus, don't expect to earn more than 14 bucks an hour at an airport or being a truck driver in civilian life. For those who think the job is great, thank you for your service! The one benefit for aviation geeks, you get to touch every aircraft in the inventory. (With your hose)... hahahaha #true

Hi! I just got a contract opportunity yesterday for fuels and was offered a 2k sign on bonus. My contract is for 6 years active duty. Because of this, I feel like the bonus is quite short. Any opinions, comments, or things I should be aware of? For reference, my ASVAB score was 86 and my lift score was 70lbs.
@EloraJean3 жыл бұрын
Ultimately you're trading two years of your life for an abysmal $2,000...in my mind it's less about the career and more about the additional time. I always recommend 4 years because by that time most people know if they are enjoying themselves or not, and with a 4-year contract you are able to cross-train at a way earlier point compared to 6-year contract... AND you are able to request base of preference much earlier than 6-year contract. I don't think 2k is worth the time. If you feel super strongly about the job, or serving, then you might be fine and can just take the 2k and be happy about it...but ultimately no, I don't recommend picking the job JUST for a small sign-on bonus that will make you commit two extra years you may not want to give.
