"Ball of Fire", another brilliant pairing of Stanwyck and Cooper --their chemistry was something else. And this nightclub scene where Cooper finds her is one for the books. Stanwyck could interact with the best of the best as she does here with not only Krupa but the entire band. Martha Tilton's voices suits Stanwyck's persona to a "T". 4/2019

Here is the prime reason why so many fans went to Gene Krupa in a big way. He had that showmanship and above all he surrounded himself with all good players in that Gene Krupa Big Band. The song here Drum Boogie was played a zillion times by many bands small groups. Many imitated this. but Gene Krupa had that Style that Showmanship that made everyone realized that the drummer was a precious man. Put the drums up front. Thank you Gene.

People want to talk about Buddy Rich etc, but Gene Krupa had the beat, and wow look at him here, so fast and accurate on the drums. my favorite drummer of all time.

One of my all-time favorite scenes - the nightclub set with the underwater motifs, the costumes, the orchestra, the fantastic song itself! As Barbara says at the end of the first performance - "Yeah!"

cvista I Sadly Mate the age of style and elegance is gone.. One of the best bands of the Swing Era thanks to Krupa The King of the Skins 100% and Roy Elderidge on Trumpet.. Gee I hope I I spelled Roy's last name correct, a great player.

Not so, Denis May, not so. I play rhythm guitar in a swing band and every show is like a time machine to the elegance and grace of the 1930s and 40s. The jazz age still exists... IF you know where to look.

Martha Tilton and Barbara Stanwyck looked something alike, so pairing Tilton's voice to Stanwyck's looks was a natural. I especially liked the little bit at the end, where Krupa's playing the matchbox!

Krupa was one of the major reasons why the Benny Goodman band was one of the hottest swinging "Killer Diller" bands around and brought swing its popularity, in fact, many of heavy metal's greatest drummers and bands that rocked hard did so because the drummers heard all of their parents swing records like this

Ball of Fire (1941) Martha Tilton actually sang the song and Barbara Stanwyck lip-synced it.

The vocal dubbing didn't quite work because Martha Tilton's voice is so different than Stanwyck's. But Stanwyck is smoking' it in that costume! Can you imagine that probably everyone in this scene is dead.....

I thought it was pretty good. I didn't even think about it, when I first saw the movie. And while I am not a musician, I am a pretty big fan of music, and make my own music. So I am not totally oblivious. But I can see how it could create cognitive dissonance in someone with a better ear.
