You can think what you want but you're ignoring history and the fact that "alternative rock" doesn't really mean anything. Fugazi was within the punk scene, but more specifically they were post-hardcore. A big post-hardcore movement happened in the mid 80s in DC. Revolution Summer. The members of Fugazi, and the scene they were a part of, came out of the DC hardcore punk scene, and they represented rejecting some of the aggression of that scene but still embracing the DIY aspects.. they're a post-hardcore band.
