I remember when “The Score” came out, it was a classic but when “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill” dropped in 98, the world went CRAZY for it! It’s still one of my favorite (if not my favorite) album! I used to listen to it everyday. You should do one on Lauryn Hill.

Exactly. Lauryn was so pure of a musician. You could tell she breathed music. I wonder if that being her only album adds to the allure of it
@amyrush4613
@amyrush4613 2 жыл бұрын
@@stuntedgrowthmusic I think it does add to the allure it! Before people could really enjoy the 1st project, critics, execs, and detractors were already anticipating the next project, it was like they wanted to prove that TMOLH was a fluke and she couldn’t replicate its success. I think she could have but it was a perfect storm brewing in her personal and professional life coupled with her own disenchantment with the industry that got in the way of a 2nd album. The unplugged album was like a compromise but She was being authentic in her artistry even though it wasn’t what everyone expected. It’s no denying that The miseducation was a breath of fresh air at the time (SN: Kanye’s “Champion” is also my favorite Kanye song). IN MY OPINION: The Miseducation and It’s Dark and Hell is Hot was the hottest albums of 98!

@Roccofan

That is the case for the same reason Mos Def isn’t mentioned, their greatness has a shadow cast over it be their off mic issues and lack of production. You can always tell talent when it is consecutive.

The Score sold over 7 million in the US and over 20 million worldwide, it's multiplatinum in over 20 countries, has been included on almost every Best Of All Time lists, is still one of the most streamed albums on Spotify, and it won a Grammy and got nominated for 2. That's definitely NOT underrated.

Prior to the east coast rennaissance era, I feel the industry was trying to blackball establish rappers from the 80s especially BDK during the rise of gangsta rap in the early 90s. BDK should've had a promising career like ll and krs one in the 90s. His hiatus after 94 really messed up his growth similar to Slick Rick hiatus when he went to jail in the early 90s.

That made her a triple threat..Look at The Miami Sound Machine. Then they became Gloria Estefan and The Miami Sound Machine.Then her husband fired the rest of the band and she became a solo act. Pop Punk band Paramore has new members because the others members didn't like that Hayley Williams was getting all of the attention.

I would've just settled for Lauryn doing anything mainstream like her '96-'99 work. Wyclef's solo work was also pretty damn good in the early days up to the Ecleftic. Music in general just took a nosedive in quality around the turn of the millennium. The soul died, not just in Hip Hop either: adventuresinpsychonautics.blogspot.com/2022/07/the-telecommunications-act-of-1996.html Even if they'd stayed together, they would've been expected to do collabs with Justin Timberlake or Nelly Furtado to get any airplay in the 2000's. Blah.
