I remember checking the FNAF subreddit frequently back in 2015. That page and the Roller Coasters and Daft Punk subreddits were my go-to sites during college (my grades may have suffered slightly). I actually wrote a paper comparing FNAF to Frankenstein and posted that on the Reddit page. Good memories!

This video gave me whiplash and intense nostalgia. To think I've been here since the very start from when I was 12-13 and *STILL* try to keep up with the games and its lore now that I am 20. It's amazing the amount of impact an initally desperate attempt to keep up with creating games had on our generation. Scott got what he wanted in the end as well as creating an entire new community and defining a new entity in the horror genre with video gaming. This journey has been amazing and I believe I'd still keep up even in the coming decade haha.

1:16:37 Hands down the best part of the video for me. Audibly laughed out loud because John’s facial expression was just too perfect for that teaser. Plus the visible eye-twitch made it look like at the moment he had tuned into what he was doing. Followed by an immediate and short analysis of what he tuned into was just too funny to me, man. Great video John, if you see this it really is a great video. Happy 8th Birthday FNAF.

aw, it was like you were raised with it! i remember first finding fnaf in 2016 (when rumors of sister location were around). as a giant fan of creepy stuff, robots, and animals… a videogame about creepy robot animals seemed like a miracle sent from heaven for my 8 year old self. i never played any of the games, (except for security breach which i enjoyed SO much despite it’s reputation) but i definitely lingered in the community since that year. i’m proud to say i was one of those kids who literally fangirled over foxy, made my own “fnaf show stage” out of a cardboard box, and i always loved roleplaying as the security guard on the playground with friends. im in highschool as of now, and i will always have a special place in my heart for the fnaf series. so yes! although i thought i finally grew out of the fandom, here i am ranting about it all over again :’)

@@gaysonorthotdaughta I was 6 when FNAF was released. Me and my cousin, who I grew up playing console games and a variety of video games with, went crazy. I watched a shit ton of gameplays, fell into the illimitable world of theories and lore enthusiasts, and even discovered the many fan music works. It did scare me a bit.. Since I was a little kid. I used to be afraid of my teddy bear that usually sat on the top shelf of my open closet. But honestly, that feeling was the most fun I had as a kid. Growing up around parents that weren't always around and not very many friends due to my differences from other kids (autism), it was a comforting thing to get into. I genuinely think FNAF is a special interest of mine, and has been since I was so little. I've played FNAF 1, FNAF 2, FNAF 3, a bit of FNAF 4, FNAF AR, Ultimate Custom Night, Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria Simulator but not SL, Help Wanted or Security Breach (though I've watched many MANY gameplays and pretty much know how to play them). I used to do FNAF RPs on Minecraft and ROBLOX too! I've been a nerd for the lore and the history for so long. Even with Scott not developing FNAF games anymore, he's still always to thank.

I still remember the day Markiplier played this. I was 14 years old. I fell in love with the games almost immediately. I started to lose interest around the time sister location came out and moved onto other interests. I'm 23 now. I just got back into it before the movie comes out later this year. It's insane to see how much it's grown, to see how much more lore has been added. It's insane to me it's slowly getting close to being ten fucking years old.

My Girlfriend and I started watching some Markiplier videos to pass the time and we just finished watching his Security Breach videos. I'd only ever heard of FNAF before, but after watching that series, I was hooked. There was very clearly a lot more there than simply just an open world horror game and I loved that. I quickly found your channel after trying to understand what really happened in that game and now I'm finding this. Great video, this really sums up my suspicions in that this is all started as a small indy game that blew up and while the game play isn't exactly triple A, the story telling more than makes up for it. Knowing the history now makes the games that much richer.

@@ShuTheIdiot Thats a gross misrepresentation of what happened and you know that. What happened was he did not just vote, he donated thousands of dollars to political figures that wanted to push anti LGBT legislation and FNAF has always had a huge LGBT fanbase. For what particular reason? I do not know, Sonic also has a huge LGBT fanbase though nothing in early sonic was overtly LGBT. And when he was called out about he still danced around whether or not he thought LGBT people deserved our rights with "he's a Christian" and blah blah blah. Personally I was not hurt because I stopped caring about FNAF very early on and certainly never cared abot Scott but people are perfectly valid in being upset by that. How dare people of a marginalized group be upset that they supported someone financially and literally built his empire only for him to turn around and use that money to directly harm them. Shame on them. 🙄

Great writeup. I haven't played a single FNAF game (not my kind of game), but I'm entranced by the lore and now I know essentially the whole story though other videos. This is a great supplement to all those by providing a little more historical context. If lore is the frosting, this is the cake. Good work.

Also it's so wild that people thought that Springtrap in the FNAF 3 teaser images was Golden Freddie. It doesn't look like a bear at all. It very clearly looks like a rabbit in the reversed/high contrast image. It really shows that people want to connect the dots with minimal information right away, without thinking that there's any possibility that it's new, and they really don't know what's coming next. It's just like when Marill showed up in media pre-GSC and fans came up with ways to evolve Pikachu into "Pikablu."

Also I don't know who is at 1:21:50, but he sucks. Also, Scott also sucks, having donated to the political campaigns of Mitch McConnell and Donald Trump. He's potentially worse than the Harry Potter author.

This was such an amazing video dude! So proud of you for this! It brought back the memories I had watching Dawko, Razz, Bazz, and Ryan doing Theory Thursdays for the FNaF 4 teasers. I would even wait til Friday's to watch them with my Nephew. I think that's why I consider FNaF 4 being one of my favorites. It was because of them that I fell in love with the franchise. I love FNaF and this was such an amazing walk down memory lane. Thank you for making this video!

ive just finished watching and i cant even begin to explain how much it already means to me. i grew up with this franchise, watching this made me feel like i was a child again; it helped me remember so many of the happy memories that came with fnaf: the theorizing, the trolling, the excitement and everything else. i also honestly dont think any other youtuber could not only explain the entire history of fnaf in such detail in only 1hr30mins, but also manage to explain how the experience of witnessing all that felt like, and how much emotion came with looking back on it all today. as sappy and cheesy as it may sound, from the bottom of inner child's heart, thank you Fuhnaff 💜 and congrats on this amazing vid!!

It was nice to take a look back at the amazing history of this franchise from the point of other youtubers. This franchise still means alot to me, I clearly remember my little brother showing me the trailer of the first game way back in 2014, followed by Markiplier's playthrough and I thought it looked so cool and terrifying! 😨 I'm very excited for the future of this franchise and the fanbase. As always thank you John for putting so much energy into making these great videos, especially this one. 💙 Here's to another 8 years.

I think the coolest thing about FNAF will always be how involved the community is with the state of the games and the franchise in general. I dont think there has been another successful massive game franchise in history where the creator worked so closely with the community and actually responded to feedback in such a positive way. You'll never look at something like Halo or Pokemon and see a part of their franchise history revolving around youtubers.

FNAF and Markiplier literally saved my family. 2014 and early 2015 were hell for us. My dad had stage 4 cancer and was rapidly declining and passed in January of 2015. My family basically crumbled after that. My mom, sister, and I barely spoke to each other despite living in the same house. We just sort of existed in a fog of depression. My mom basically just worked and slept. I was in college and worked part time and threw myself completely into those without really doing anything else. Well, my sister happened to come across Mark's FNAF videos not long before the 3rd game came out and made me watch them with her. It was just enough to pull me out of my funk and start actually interacting with my family again. My sister and I got closer than we had literally ever been before and gradually we were able to start pulling my mom out of her haze as well.

Man this entire summary of the last 8 years is really mind boggling to me. I remember being 12 when the first game dropped. watching CoryxKenshin flip out when he was playing it. Even today, it still feels like UCN released not too long ago despite being over 4 years ago. It's just so jarring to realize this game was around during all of my teenage years. Really brings back some memories seeing all of those teasers and hearing the bizarre theories of FNaF 3 of Golden Bonnie and "The Salvage". Great stuff, bro.

This is absolutely the best FNAF video I’ve seen in years after coming back to the community. I’ve been in the FNAF community for around 7 to 8 years. The memories I have about the FNAF community is watching Game Theory, Markiplier, Jacksepticeye, and especially Fusionzgamer. I’ve watched a lot of fnaf KZbinrs but I’m not gonna mention them all because I don’t want to fill this whole comment with KZbinrs I’ve watched. I remember being hyped for FNAF 6 and especially Sister Location. I don’t remember exactly what I was doing at that era but seeing this game evolve to one of the biggest horror games ever is crazy. I gladly thank Scott for making such an amazing horror franchise. Thank You Scott…
