Same, my work (camera store) bought up almost all pro 400H rolls in my and the surrounding countries and sold them for a ridiculous 50 euro for a 5-pack 120 film after it was discontinued. It was the cheapest color film we sold on mediumformat and i bought about three packs and still keep them frozen to use them whenever i am going to shoot something special. Definately going to BB this film now because i too was a bit underwhelmed by the colours and love the more grungy BB look.

If Fuji was still interested in film, and if the reason for the discontinuation was true, we should be expecting Pro 400H to be produced again. Tho I really think Fuji just justify the discontinuation of another stock with the most easy thing they could think off, they just do not want to be involved in film (except Instax) anymore Well they could rebrand Portra 400 and sell it has Pro 400H II, but that´s the most we are gonna get
@JHurrenPhotography2 жыл бұрын
@@filipecostapt6427 at least it could be cheaper, perhaps? Certainly Kodak would give Fuji a bro discount
@adamevans19892 жыл бұрын
That wasn't exactly true, the real reason is they had to mothball the factory, due to the pretty strict covid restrictions put in place by the Japanese government. Their strategy was to get by on frozen master rolls until they could restart production. Pro 400H just had a very small supply and ran out in early 2021. There's an article on the Kosmo Foto website where a Fuji UK rep (and Fuji Japan) basically admit that they had to stop production, they are restarting production because they see the demand, and that they could bring back Pro 400H. Fuji consumer film stock levels in Japan also seems to be on the up, so there's some hope :)

Well it's 2024 now. Fuji has axed all film except instax in the US. No Superia, no Fujicolor 100, and all of their slide film that I ordered six months ago is still on backorder. (Superia and Fujicolor 100 seem to be Japanese domestic market only now?) So, the optimism is nice, but as of now, I am incredibly sad because Superia was my favorite film. And also mad because they still haven't filled the USA back orders...

April 2023 here, Fuji isn't making anything anymore, due to "lack of raw materials" or as we like to say in the rest of the world, they closed their film plants. Anyway, I have enough in 120 to last a few years... 35mm not so much. Hopefully they decide to reopen someday and have Kodak stop making their film and re release their nice film.

Even just shooting at 320 helps lift the haze off of 400H. I find that shooting a full stop over to get those pastel tones a bit of a waste, 400H is an amazing landscape film at 320 - retains those lush green colours and has good contrast and shadow

I am not a volume shooter. If I had to shoot a 36 exp roll it would take me forever to finish a roll, let alone the 5 I shot for this video. 12 shots is reasonable. I can get through it pretty quickly but with enough shots for variety and to get the point across. Also medium format is dope.

My last shot of C41 film were two rolls of 400H, two years before the discontinuation; these rolls are still not developed because of laziness to send them to a lab, but I have them chilled to keep their freshness, at least. I already expected its departure though after hearing the previous generation Acros discontinuation back then, so it did not affect my shooting rate. Still, it was sad to me as I shot quite a number of rolls in university and during my masters with this film in 35mm and 120. A bitch to meter but if you want them TONEZZZZ this was the film to choose - and Portra 400 as well. Long Live Mastin Labs 400H, I suppose.
