Peter, thank-you so much. As a former Fuji user, I sympathize with the value offered by Fuji. I actually switched to M4/3 for the size and quality. While you can certainly find comparable sized lenses, the facts are that if you carry an entire system - wide angle, small, medium, long telephoto, macro, portrait lens - the fuji system is almost twice the weight and size of the M4/3 comparable system. Cost is also higher. Finally, the X-Trans sensor is simply not my favorite. Enjoy the Fuji... it is a fun camera system... just a bit too big as a system. In fact, the comparable Sony system is even smaller/lighter than the Fuji!

Peter, my apologies. I just did a little fact checking on myself. What you see above is my subjective perspective. When doing a real comparison of a complete kit (camera, 7-14, 100-400, 12-40, 17, 25, 60, 40-150 M4/3 lenses and equivalents), the Fuji System vs OM: Weight: 5,8Kg vs 4.5Kg; Volume: 6,200cc vs 4,600cc. So objectively, the OM is ~75% of the weight and volume of the Fuji system.

@@TITAOSTEINcompletely agree. Camera systems are tools. I use the OM for wildlife, macro and keep rest of kit to be complete. Have other system for nature, landscape, portraits. I’ve always hoped a KZbinr would create a series of videos based on use cases. The notion that one camera is “better” than another has to be put into context: “better” for what? And not just genre. Weight, size, cost, image quality, features, lens system, shooting window, bit depth, ergonomics, haptics, etc all have trade-offs for specific needs. Repeat for video. Honestly, find a system that works and is fun. Then stick with it and really learn what it can do. Most importantly, have fun and practice.

Certainly substituting Olympus lenses with other lenses from Fuji _can_ result in a smaller "system". However, at equivalent focal lengths, micro 43 lenses are significantly smaller than their Fuji APS-C counterparts. That goes for prime lenses too. Comparing a 12-40 Olympus zoom with a 16mm Fuji prime misses the point. One could make similar comparisons to show that certain Sony full frame cameras and lenses are lighter than a Fuji X-S20 with lenses. That too misses the point

Always forge your own path my friend. I switched some time back from OM to Fuji and have never looked back. I do think that likely you wouldve been better served with the X-H2 or even the XT5 or XT4. I loved Olympus while I shot with them and I love Fuji now! The one thing that isnt alwasy easy to articulate in discussion is how my love for the art increased and continues to increase with Fuji. Its not sterile and i like that. Its very organic in a sense. I have no desire to change to anything else at this time and if i were to acquire a new camera, it would likely be a GFX for specialty professional work. With my XT5, i have been able to satisfy my personal photography standards as well as my clientele.

Congratulations on your new purchase, I am in the M43 and Fuji systems. I have no need for a full frame camera. Whereas it is expensive change systems, you have to use the right gear for the right job. I love my EMD1 Mii with the 12-40mm lens. I have several Fuji bodies and lenses. Both systems give me multiple features that allow me to capture the subject I’m focused on. I like IBIS. With the Fuji gear I used stabilized lenses. Both systems have very nice lenses. I only use video to do short clips. Both Olympus and Fuji do video good enough for me. Some people fall in love with a system and then wear blinders. Cameras are only computers with a lens attached. Finding gear that makes your task easy is important. I’m glad you found that the Fuji XS20 fills the void you had with the OM1. No gear is perfect so the XS20 will serve you well until something better shows up. Mask On Nurse Marty (Ret)

I got the OM-1 because I like to walk around in the woods and take wildlife photos. Most times I only bring the OM-1 with the 12-40 and the Panasonic Leica 100-400 lens, less than 2 kg in total, and leave the primes at home. Weather sealing and light weight are the important factors for me. My nephew work as a photographer in addition to his studies. Nice video. I do disagree with the point about stabilization. The Fuji cameras probably have the worst IBIS right now, especially in video. Please take a look at Richard Wong's IBIS test videos. In the most recent one, the XH2 almost looked like it didn't have any image stabilization on. The Panasonic and Olympus cameras are at a different level when it comes to IBIS vs other brands. Very interesting comparison Peter. Thank you! As a long time Olympus/OMDS user (for photography only, not video), I too am tempted to try Fujifilm gear. While I have lots of excellent MFT gear, my loyalty to the MFT is fading, because innovation at OM-System seems to have slowed down and Panasonic is focused more on video and FF, while Fujifilm appears to be much more innovative and gaining market share (with growing support by the major third party lens makers and KZbinrs). So I bought an X-T5 to get a feel for this fabulous camera that so many reviewers have raved about. I have no plans to abandon MFT, but would like to gain from some extras features that the X-T5 has to offer, such as the (larger) 40mp X-trans sensor, the tilt screen, some specific Fujifilm lenses, the retro feel of using physical dials and last but not least the many film simulations. In other words, I like to have the best of both worlds. I've already tested the OM-1 50mp hi-res mode at 200 ISO against the 40mp X-T5 at 125 ISO: while the OM-1 50mp images are much sharper than the OM-1 20mp images, they are not much sharper that the X-T5 40mp images for static subjects. For moving subjects, the X-T5 resolution is clearly superior to the OM-1. It's a steep but interesting learning curve to understand the X-T5, and I'd be interested in hearing about the experiences of other photographers that are on a similar path.

For switching between LCD and EVF, all my Fuji cameras have a "Viewmode" button on the right side of the EVF. But perhaps the smaller X-S20 doesn't have that. In that case there should be a "Viewmode" option in the "Screen Setup" menu, which you can add to the "My Menu" if you need. Or bind to another button. Lack of weather sealing was for me one of reasons for going with the larger Fuji cameras btw, and also the EVF quality. The X-T and X-H cameras have much better EVF, especially the X-H2 and X-H2s. Weather sealing on the Fuji is btw most likely not quite as good as on OM Systems cameras btw. Not even on X-H cameras.

When it comes to the toggling between the evf and the screen you can use the small button to the right of the evf to toggle the modes of how it switches, unfortunately there are like 5 options to cycle through and while it might have changed in more recent cameras (I’m on the X-T3) I’m not aware of a way to have a single button press switching between the evf and the screen, or the other way around. Another detail that might be worth pointing out is that many of the misses you mention stem from the fact that while the OM-1 is a flagship, the X-S20 is one of the cheaper cameras that Fuji makes, so weather sealing, dual card slots and a high res evf are not going to be part of that package unfortunately.

About two years ago I switched to Fuji Actually because of the film simulations, because I mainly only take photos in Jpeg. At first I had to get used to the slightly slower autofocus, which has now improved a lot. Which was also due to the older lenses. I still haven't unsubscribed from your channel. I now own the Fuji xt3, xt5 and xe4. And various lenses. I'm thinking about swapping the xt3 for the xs20. Because of the folding display. Let's see. I also really enjoy taking photos with Voigtländer manual lenses. And the analogue film simulations go even better with this. I wish you lots of luck and success. Many greetings from Berlin, Germany. I really hope OM System will sell a new model with up to date video features soon. I want an OM-2 with sensor like G9-2 but with OM System colours and feel. I do like Fuji better than Sony or Nikon (have no experience in Canon), but still dont like Fuji enough to consider it. The videos i make professionaly (for SOME) is good enough out of OM System cameras. But for OM System to survive the battle of brands, they have to step up in video capabilities. And also the OM-5 have to step up in video. It is possible, despite small battery and if compact design stops it, then make a videography version, maybe thicker OM-6 if it has to, but the same design for compability to OM-5 and E-M5m3 equipment. That's what I want for the market soon as possible. The OM-10 is less in a hurry to release.

I hear in your comparison between OM-1 and Fujifilm S20 what advantages there are between the two. If I add the sum of both, OM-1 still comes first for me. The features they have more than Fujifilm S20. However, what is a big plus of the S20 from Fujifilm is the sensor. There is work to be done for OM-System. Hopefully the next camera from OM-System will change that? Rumors don't rule that out, but will that happen??. That would bring OM-System back to the same level. Hopefully their next camera won't be a device that just bears the name change from Olympus to OM-System? That would be bad news for the future

Good and interesting points, thanks. Two things I have the opposite view to yourself: the 26 to 20 resolution difference is 30% which I’d say is a lot on something so crucial. On the other hand the focussing point difference of 400 to 1000 seems big numerically, but in reality the extra points are merely between other points so unless you are photographing a queen bee in a 20 metre wide beehive, this is not relevant...

Landscape is an essentiel genre for my photography, I think 20 Mpx is a little limiting for it, I'm afraid the images will look somewhat dated in a few years. So I found myself doing a lot of postprocessing with HHHR shots, masking in Photoshop the moving parts of the image from the ORI file, and I found it is quite boring and time consuming at the end. More over, the OM-1 with the 8-25 zoom is quite heavy, and the sharpness on the edges is fine at 20 MPx, but not so much at 50 Mpx. I was expecting a lot from the next Fuji X100 iteration, but I'm not very patient, and I was a little afraid with having just a fixed length on hiking ... I realized that the X-T5 with the 27mm F2.8 was not much bigger than the X100, and also on par with a PEN-F with 18mm F1.8, with a much better IQ. Moreover, I loved the ergonomics of the PEN-F, with the exposure compensation dial and a rapid access to ISO setting, which is the same with the X-T5 and its "still" ergonomics. So I bought the X-T5. A first, I wanted to keep my OM-1 and some particular and exceptional lenses (75mm F1.8, 17mm F1.2, macro, ...) for all my photography except landscape and hiking, and for filming. But I realized that, for an incoming event, I should have to simultaneously film and take photos with my "event lenses" (17mm F1.2 and 75mm F1.8). Should I buy another body (E-M5 Mark III), or should I buy "event lenses" for my X-T5 ? I discovered the relatively cheap Viltrox 27mm F1.2 and 75mm F1.2, and read all the reviews available, which are excellent. I remember that Peter bought an XS-20 for video, so I looked at it closer, and found it would be an excellent second body for filming, the two main caveats of it (no weather sealing, one SD slot) should not be too penalizing for a second body which should not be used on hiking ... The other choice was to own three bodies from two systems : not optimal at all (...) : I decided to switch completely from M43 to Fuji and sell my remaining M43 gear, which finance the Fuji gear I needed (XS-20 and the two Viltrox). As a bonus, I get the Fuji 15-45 with power zoom, which is fine for filming. Finally, what made me switch, is the fact that Olympus remained too long with a 20 Mpx sensor, and the choice made to focus on wildlife photography. It makes sens because it is the genre that optimizes the price and weight of M43 gear. The M43 system moved away from my own photography genre, and I regret it.

Unfortunately the fujifilm system has a huge problem. I'm talking about focusing at infinity with lenses from 23 mm down (wide) with apertures smaller than f 5.6. Try it yourself, try to photograph something diatant at f10 with a wide lens on a beautiful sunny day and activate the distance scale. I have accepted that I will not be selling my gear and have embraced the fact that since I cannot sell - I have to be patient… but I have a friend who was able to sell his Fuji system (in very used condition) and lost only 40% of the purchase price…. When it is raining i just put a cheap plastic bag over it and keep shooting. I know it doesn't look very professional but it does the job 🙂 As far as Pro Capture goes there is Pre-Shot ES in the X-S20 which is similar in function but it does only work in electronic shutter mode but is helpful in some situations. Hey Peter, wish you have fun with the Fuji. If EVF isnt so good, you could have a look at XT4. For years I had Fuji XT 3. Nice Look. Nice simulation. But it slowed me down in photographing. World be ineterestibg, what you say to rmthis point.

Kiitokset avusta.

What about AF?... i bought the XT5 this summer with the 16-80 F4, and the AF was so bad, i had to return it!, and change to the XS20 with the 18mm 1.4 WR, and the XS20 combo was maybe abit better, but far from perfect!. With all respect, I don’t get your choice. You wanted Fuji because of the video, fine. But X-S20? It’s like the worst decision 😂😂 Look, you said it yourself: 3 BIG things missing is 1) weather sealing, 2) two card slots and 3) better (5.76mpix) EVF. And also, it is for professional use… …so for the love of god I don’t understand why you chose X-S20 when clearly you’d need X-H -series body, which would fulfill all your needs. Or even X-T -series body. Camoon Peter, sä olet aina perustellut kanavalla asiat rationaalisesti, mutta tätä en nyt ymmärrä alkuunkaan. Miksi ihmeessä vaihdoit runkoon joka on omaan käyttöösi lähtökohtaisesti puutteellinen?

Well I see that X-S20 is enough for my work at the moment. It is a mini X-H2 camera. I know it lacks things that I mentioned in the video. I have been using it for about a month now on my work. It ahs served me very well. No problem what so ever. It is not a bad decision in my opinion. The price of X-H2 is almost twice as the price of X-S20. That is one reason. Did not wanted to spend that much money right now. I can always get X-H cameras if I really need them. Cannot see that right now. X-T5 is something I might get later this year. That would mainly to do some street photography. Very happy right now.
