This is a great video for refreshing my memory regarding manual focusing. I'm using the fuji xt1 with vintage manual lenses. Thanks for sharing.

@laszlobacs ah very cool! i dont use vintage lenses in general, but ive always wanted to. get that touch that no one else is using these days. thank you for your nice comment.

I knew this back in 2016 when I had my new X-T2. I sold it in 2021 and just Bought a X-T1 to cary around and all I have is manual lenses right now. This helped me so much to get things into focus. This 8 year old video is still so helpful. Great job.

interesting choice. xt1 is a great camera. I use the xt2 still. no need to upgrade for me. thank you for the kind comment. why only manual lenses out of curiosity?

@@jimmycphoto I started photography in 1999 as a need for images for software I developed. By 2010 I was doing as much professional photography work as I was software/web development. Things were always about speed, accuracy, perfect color etc. I lost my love for photography and by 2019 I had stopped photography all together. I sold my gear FujiFilm X-T2, lenses and my medium format Mamita film gear by 2021. Lately I started wanting to get back into it but for the joy of being creative only. Using manual lenses is like shooting film, it makes you slow down and forces you to really take the information from your viewfinder into account. I choose X-T1 because there has always been something special about the X-Trans II sensor I always loved. The way images look when processed in one of the film recopies I load into custom settings. I just really enjoy the whole tactile process of it.

"Upgraded" my X-E1 to an X-T1 last year as I wanted more focusing (peaking) assistance with old manual lenses. I must say I'm really happy with the new addition as it makes focusing so much easier. Great video on yet another feature of this amazing camera. Thanks for sharing!

Hi Jimmy, I know this is off topic but I just had to tell you that Jimmy Chan in the Charlie Chan movies is one of my favorite actor/comedians of all time. He alone makes the Charlie Chan series so much fun to watch. Of course Jimmy's real name was Victor Sen Yung. However you Jimmy Chung also have an enduring personality much like Jimmy Chan so keep up the good work my friend.

Do you have a button on the shutter button? Looks like there’s on on there always thought they were only for the ones with the thread release
@jimmycphoto4 жыл бұрын
yes i have a video on it somewhere.. but the xt2 has a thread for that. but.. for others you can buy a strong adhesive one. i literally bought rubber bumpers from home depot. by cleaning the surface well it lasted a long time to see if i would lile the feel of it. you can check out places like lolumina or other places like it.

Thanks for this great video, I have only one question regarding new FW4 AF modes. In either Zone or Wide/Tracking modes, When half-pressing shutter release, sometime several autofocus points (green boxes) are highlighted in green showing they achieved focus - my question is: which one of those boxes the camera is actually locking into for the exposure ? Sometimes there will be several boxes highlighted in a zone or wide/tracking - some will lock on objects in the front and some locked on objects in the rear - when I fully press the shutter release - which of those boxes is actually used by the camera as the focus point ? Couldn't find explanation for this in all Fuji manuals

Great explained! My new xt-1 will not take any picture, I formatted the SD card. I have the same yellow small camera with ! on the screen. Screen is very dark. If I press the shutter release - nothing happens. Any idea what is going on?
@Andrey.Balandin10 ай бұрын
Perhaps, your shutter release priority is set to focus, which means the camera will not take a picture until it finds focus. Change the priority to shutter and it might fix it. If it does, you would then need to understand why the lens is not focusing - could be set to manual, could be a manual lens, or the focusing distance could be too small for an AF lens, or a faulty lens.

Very helpful videos. I do have a few more questions though. Does the camera offer other options for visualizing focus, for example, coloured highlights (focus peaking), split image, etc...? If so, are these facilities, as well as the zoom to focus also available in the viewfinder? Finally, is there a direct method of moving the focus area around using a button, or combination of buttons, without having to access a menu item? Otherwise, a very informative video. Thanks.

+Christopher Wheeler Hi christopher, very good questions! Yes, this camera really has several ways to do every little thing. focus peaking vid to come, and I set the short cut to adjust the focus position to the down arrow. I do have some tips here as well. Your question brought on alot of great ideas for videos. I'll get on them asap.

Hi. I have a question about my Fuji X T1. It just started happening, but when I take a picture in Shutter or Aperture Priority AE, it takes a few seconds to process the shot and goes to a black screen that says processing. Is this normal? It wasn't doing it before for me. Thanks!

you may have knocked the knobs out of the usual place. or some higher resolution or the drive knob. maybe it is on raw perhaps? its not a problem. but i knock those knobs around all the time and realize it too late sometimes!!

Specifially pressing the button not when I adjust focus ring. It should work when I actually tell the camera to zoom into the image right?

Hi i have a problem with manual focus when in low light condition. So the lcd or evf will be very noisy and i got hard time for manual focus. I use 18-55 with xt1. Are you have a same problem? In good light condition it is very easy to do manual focus
@Cagey75318 жыл бұрын
sounds like focus peaking. You can turn this off, go to the 4th red menu, and then MF assist, and change it to standard, or digital split image.
@jimmycphoto8 жыл бұрын
if it is really noisy, and the picture doesn't come out that way, then, uncaged might be correct, that you are in a focus peaking mode. I never would have thought of that. If its coming out noisy anyway, well, shooting in low light is very difficult and will come out in a way that reflects that. Is there anyway you can get more light into your shooting? or change the aperture/time settings?

nice tip, by the way does the "focus check" in the menu work for 3rd party manual lenses, aka the Samyang/rokinon manual prime lenses ? or does this come under the "shoot without lens" menu item, or do you use both together?
@jimmycphoto3 жыл бұрын
I THINK focus check works with fujix mainly. But yeah, you are right.. using third party lenses works differently, but that's part of the charm. But unfortunately I don't have any third party lenses. I've seen some amazing work with samyang lenses.
