I liked the X-T2, admire the X-T3 and love XT4. Though 3 years ago I bought A6500 which was better than X-T2 autofocus and audio. And now have A7III. I’m waiting for Sony to release an A7... cam with 10-bit and 4K60p. Or maybe an FS5II successor like “FX6” (baby FX9)

My take away: Right from the start, the A7III is overhyped by fanbois & media. Always shows, the A7III 's IBIS is as good as me walking with 50mm f1.8 on a rebel. Canon's EIS is better, always, in any FL. Video files & colors: XT-4 wins AF: Not sure, you didn't specify. A7III's continuous AF is unusable in any log profile where it matters most. Even in normal profile, peripheral AF points, low light or Still mode, Canon's DPAF is way ahead. Sony is only good at "lagless UI squar box". In actual result, R does it better in all modes, any condition with any lenses - native or Adapted (Canon/3rd Party). XT-4 is great for what it is.

I have the XT4. However saying Sony is starting to compete with Canon on autofocus is like saying Tesla is starting to compete with GM with electric vehicles. Sony’s is the superior system now. Especially for action or tracking.

i think a lot of people put way too much stock into resolution and bit rate. we tend to pixel peep a lot-we’re photographers and videographers, so it’s only natural. but anybody who’s not will absolutely never notice the difference. i don’t think any normal viewer will ever watch a music video or vlog and think “yeah it’s ok but clearly it’s only 8 bit so i don’t like it” or “dang this absolutely should be in 4k, not 1080p.” youtube compression negates almost all of these aspects anyway. that being said, i really love my sony cameras but would also love to be own an xt-4 as well. seems like a sick ass camera. get what you think is best for you, but don’t let resolution and/or bit rate be your only deciding factor. great video as always too, zach

Superficial test--and unfitting. IBIS was never meant to be used for walking gimbal-like shooting. Fuji colors are incredibly better than Sony; grading the Sony log profiles were nightmarish for me, F-Log is a cinch. BOTH the LCD and evf were unusable on the Sony. To get it so you can actually see what you're doing you MUST have an external monitor...X-t4 is infinitely better! Performing manual focus, WHICH IS WHAT A REAL FILM MAKER SHOULD BE DOING, is virtually impossible on the Sony with the dog poop evf and lcd. The Sony peaking is unusable---it is so horrible you cannot even see what you're trying to focus, and it's also inaccurate. Again, hoss out that external monitor to see what you're trying to manually focus. On the other hand, the Fuji peaking is primo---state of the art---and you can move your focus box anywhere and any time, punching and perform a perfect manual focus at any time---even when you're filming. Struggle to get a decent focus pull on the Sony and you have to repeat it four or five times to finally get it right, the Fuji--one and done! Image quality, usability, grading, colors----the Sony--TORTURE to use for actual film making. Yes, as glofied point and shoot the AF can work well. But shooting and trying to actually see and control what you're doing without an external monitor----forget about it! In contradistinction, the Fuji is an absolute joy to shoot---no crippling, no 2012 quality screens, just great tools and means to get the best result with the greatest of ease. Metabones speedbooster and you have a full frame aspect of view---if you really want that. Most of the great movies were shot with APS-C---arguably, the "sweet spot" for shooting video while retaining shallow DOF. Shooting in low light----mark up one point for the Sony. It's (marginally) better than the Fuji with the Speedbooster. Hey, good luck with that shooting in the dark. The proof of the pudding in anything, not just cameras: the joy you have in using the product....how much fun is the camera to actually shoot, how easy is it to get what you're looking for artistically, how delighted are you with the final result. The answer for me of everyone of these questions is unequivocally "Fuji." I've owned both cameras---- there is no comparison. Fuji wins by a mile in all the categories that really mean anything for real filmic shooting---with no need of an external monitor. This test is totally superficial in respect to actual film making. It seems everyone is only looking for a glorified point and shoot---and then they call themselves "film makers."

(I know I'm late to party here.) The AF performance on the Sony was dreadful there, mine has never been that bad (its far from perfect but wow). I don't know if it was the lens or settings but I cant believe how poorly that tracked. In the early shot from behind where it was hunting it was like the A7 couldn't see properly, I've only ever had that happen when I was stopped down at ISO 100 at F22 which you'd expect it to not work that well.

Niceee. The first” xt4 vs (x camera)” video that I didnt mind watching. I think shooting to an external recorder w/xt4 allows you to get 4k in 422 too vs the 420 you get internally but just how much that matters is subjective..

I used to own an a7iii but then sold it for an x-t3. Fuji is pretty amazing. Wish I would have done it sooner. Sony won’t let you down though, I just like 10bit and the colors. APS-C isn’t even that bad in low light. Another good camera (now) is the sigma FP if you have a Ninja or external SSD. Shoots raw 12 bit. $200 cheaper than the a7iii.

Sony A7iii (Feb 2018) vs. Fujifilm XT-4 (May 2020) The A6600 which is about $800 cheaper than the XT-4 works better than the A7iii. IBIS is not that great in video but both the XT-4 and 6600 would need a gimble for anything serious. Bitrate is probably the only real difference for choosing the choosing the XT-4 over a Sony, but tomorrow is going to be an interesting day for Sony cameras

I've died when you felt down from a chair :) One of the best graded footage on XT-4 so far. Anyway XT-4 is a bit pricey because it's new. Zach and guys, what do you recommend for a start journey with a videography? XT-3 or Lumix GH5? I'll use camera for a stills maybe only in 20%. GH5 is probably the most beloved camera among youtubers in my area. Nice colors, sometimes looks a bit more cinematic than XT-3. But with good settings Fujifilm has this really nice vibe (but sometime to contrasty for my taste) and camera has this magic.

I actually own and shoot on XT-3 and had some experience working with GH5. Going from what you have said you would want to go GH5 as Fuji Xt-3 is still definitely a stills camera first. In regards to grades and the cinematic look. I'd say you have flexibility in post with both but Fuji gives you those out of the camera profiles as an exra bonus. Now, saying that I can't remember last time using them as I shoot F-log and HLG ^^ Hope this helps :)

@@ClassicPolly Thanks for an answer :) I know Panasonic has amazing stabilization but still considering XT-3 because for sure I want to buy gimbal too and don't know why but I assume this camera can teach me better some basic to intermediate skills. Can you tell me, how do you find image quality in videos (GH5 and XT-3)? Of course with decent lenses. Are they are comparable or you prefer one of them much more? And what about this autofocus issues in Panasonic? Is that true? As I've made a research I think these two cameras are one of the best for video at this price range (BlackMagic 4k is really nice too but a lot of people say it's to expensive in expansion). Without a doubt GH5 and XT-3 are really solid cameras, just some details make them a bit different but that's of course good.

Agreed, I would go with the GH5. It's still a beast and the IBIS is so freaking good. XT3 has crappy battery life and no IBIS, but the image is gorgeous. You'll get great results with each, but I'd pick the GH5

I disagree with Polly and Zach. The X-T3 is much better for video; superior sensor, better image/video quality, processing, AF (bad on GH5), better low light, better lenses, actual cinema lenses, etc. IBIS isn't a big deal. It's not like professional videographers and filmakers didn't get along just fine without it for decades, and Fuji has ois lenses and you mentioned a gimbal so no worries there. Plus micro four-thirds is dead.

The auto focus settings used for this video are absolutely terrible which isn't your fault but yea definatly terrible it's constantly jumping, Philip bloom did an exhaustive test of the auto focus and yea he basically found most lens are just crap on this camera and unusable! The auto focus problems shown in this video no chance would a commercial client accept that.

It's sooo annoying that it seems every camera is flawed in some way apart from the Sony A7S3 because it's so expensive!. I really would be happy to settle for the xt4 and forgo full frame but the auto focus is bloody aweful and they stuck a stupid micro HDMI port on it!. In this video the auto focus is constantly jumping and pulsing like Philip bloom and camera conspiracies shows! The R5 & R6 are just crap overheat and are way way too expensive, the S1H has crap auto focus too! It's just frustrating that 90% of cameras have some crap flaw, overheating, or crap battery life or crap auto focus or ridiculously bloody expensive, seeing as camera sales are dropping so fast I don't see how making them extremely expensive is going to help sell more!. Yes I get the less units you sell the more you have to charge to make up the loss but it's a vicious circle! I don't care how good the A7S3 is I'm not paying that much money for it! The XT4 is perfect at a decent price apart from the crap crap auto focus! If they fix that I'll buy one.

What single lens would you recommend for the xt4? I'm looking at investing in a camera system for documentary work. I love the idea of the 16-80mm f4 but I've heard it has focusing issues on video. Also the 10-24mm f2? I don't really know what to go for bit want something versatile that is well suited to run and gun documentary projects.

That's really tough. I've been using the Sigma 18-35 for 4 years now and it has never failed me once. It works for pretty much anything which is why I love it. You'd have to get an adapter too but I think it's 100% worth it. I'm just not into X mount lenses

personally i think the xt4 looks great out of the camera and they already have built in color emulations. Btw if you don't wanna spend over $2000 i'd recommend the xs10 it's got the same sensor and autofocus. It starts at $999 so you can but the rest towards lenses and gear

Can anyone help me with this issue? Id really appreciate. I currently have an XT4 and Ive been very careful to keep my ISO low but for whatever my footage is still grainy. Is there a way to get it one crisp? Thank you!

The IBIS is great in the X-T4. If you’re shaking when you’re walking of course the video will be shaky. IBIS is mainly for photography not videography, if you want stable footage, get a steadycam.

MariNate agree. IBIS isn’t meant to keep your footage smooth when walking/running. That’s what gimbals are for.

Look at the GH5 IBIS, it's insane and that's a more video centered camera. I have a gimbal but it's nice to get smooth footage when I'm on the run OKAY

What amazes me is that the A7III is a camera which is 2 years old and is still going toe to toe with the 2020 XT4. Can’t wait to see what the A7sIII brings. I do love the colour science on the XT4
