Actually, the 45mm is exactly 35mm on a full frame camera. The 55mm is almost 44mm so that's the reason you find it tighter. But the main surprise for me is the bokeh and the overall rendition. The 55 looks absolutely amazing!
@KevinDeal
@KevinDeal 10 ай бұрын
I preferred the 45 pretty much every time when you put both the shots up. You used the word "context" and it's wider focal length, coupled with the fact that it doesn't liquify your background as much, that right there is the "context". The 45 is more of a story telling lens than the 55. Even if you stop the 55 down, it looked like you had a harder time naturally framing the shots. This video confirmed why the GF45 is such a great lens.

As others have mentioned the GF55mm is closer to a 44mm. That + the aperture makes what I think this is the magical medium format look. All my favorite medium format film looks come from around this range: Pentax 645 + 75mm (roughly a 46mm), Bronica SQ-Ai + 80mm (roughly 44mm) and the Fuji GW690 + 90mm (roughly a 39mm). This is the lens that we've been looking for to give that special look.

I totally agree with the more space between the 80. With the 55 and 80 the focal lengths are a little close. It's mainly what I'm going to be using but 45 and 80 both give very different looks.

I have the 45mm, 45-100mm and 80mm. For wedding I think the 45mm f2.8 can be slow for a wedding and it's one stop brighter than the 45-100mm f4, which is way faster in general. The 80mm is very slow, but I learned how to use it over time and I think it pays off. The 55mm is very fast in comparison with these, from what I'm seeing in the videos, but I can't be sure until I try it. But because you are able to crop more on the 100mp images, you can actually do an entire wedding with the 55mm and use the 80mm just for the portraits!

I did try the 55mm, and I'm quite confused for now. I love my 45mm-80mm combo, but the autofocus speed of the 55mm is incredible for tracking and for video too. When I receive my 100-2, I want to test it more with my lenses and decide how badly I need the 55mm. Btw, 45 is my fav lens for city portraits for commercials (when you need to show more background).

That would be the question. When you're outdoors it's easy to deal with because you can just step back some. But in an indoor situation I'm not sure how it would do. I'm actually waiting for Fujifilm to make some fast wide glass for the GFX.

Hi, I can just speak of my recent experience as I purchased a GFX100 first generation just a month ago. I sold all my Sony gears (Sony A7RV and 7 lenses) and must admit that even with a very slower AF the image quality is just in another level. No way to return back, for me ! I have just the 45-100 and the 80 for the Fuji. I'm a fixed focal lenses man but the 45-100 is astounding. You will probably also be surprised with the depth of field, so f4 is not bad at all (the f1.7 is really difficult to use, same as a f1.2 lens in full format). This would be my advice: go with the 45-100 for some time and adjust after ! (and of course, if you're not in sports or wildlife shooting: sell all the Canon gear because this can pay most of your migration)

It looks like 55mm F1.7 is the one to go for rather than 45mm f2.8. I use a bunch of adapted lenses, only have 2 native GF lenses 45-100mm F4, 110mm F2. I usually buy these lenses when Fuji ran their cash back promotions. With this I can get 20% discount from the retailer and then cash back. In Australia I think 55mm f1.7 will retail for about AUD$3500, I probably get it for round AUD$2300.

I also tested the 55 1.7 at my local store in Berlin - and compared to the 80 mm, which is in full frame about 62 mm - not so far away from 45 mm: but it produces a much more portrait-like rendering. And in most of you practical cases there was a bit more space behind you... the main argument for the 55 mm could be the faster AF, but if your are not doing sports for animals, for normal people the accuracy of focusing is more important. AND: the second issue - why not a fast 45 mm 1.7 - that would have been a real groundbreaking approach to journalistic photography... but now we habe 45 2.8, 50 3.5, 55 1.7, 63 2.8 , and 80 1.7 ... so there still is no reason for me to get into there 55 mm experience;-((.
