I think it's silly to look at a 100mp image at 100% and see "some grain" and call it unusable. We don't print/post photos at 100%. These images look super clean at 6400 when viewing at print/post size (IMO). What matters most is that color reproduction is still accurate at high ISO.

Reviewing the autofocus speed without updating the lens firmware is not a fair or accurate review. The whole point of the firmware update is to calibrate with the GFX100.

Finally! Thank you for digging into the image quality limits of the GFX 100. I have one on order and can’t wait to get started, but now I have a better sense of the exposure boundaries. Also, I have a question. Did you have the 1.1 firmware installed on the 110mm? That update is supposed to provide a significant improvement in focus speed. Thanks. And I’m with you about the 110. I love how the fall-off behaves with that lens, though I didn’t realize until your right-eye/left-eye focus comparison how incredibly shallow the DoF at f2.

Would have been fair to explain its a preproduction unit. And as many others stated... It's been well reviewed by many already and they emphasized how it's NOT final firmware and specifically the firmware on the LENSES must also be updated to take full advantage of the phase detect auto focus.
@buyaport5 жыл бұрын
Thanks! That was interesting. But your ISO test wasn't quite conclusive: If your increase the exposure in post, you of course introduce noise! Anyhow a bit more noise was to be expected, as 100 Mpixel on a 44x33 mm sensor translate to the same pixel density as a 60 Mpixel full frame camera would have. After all "medium format" is just a marketing term, as the sensor is half the size of what is considered the smallest medium format (6x4.5 cm).
@akkual5 жыл бұрын
Also the high ISO test was pointless. For that one must normalize the resolution. Also LR has 0 noise reduction by default. Majority of that noise will go away just by applying a tiny bit of it. I know, I have edited GFX100 files myself, and it is the best high ISO

In your opinion is the gfx100 twice as go as the 50/s/r?
@TheSlantedLens5 жыл бұрын
When I first shot the GFX 50, I loved and still love that camera. The image quality is fabulous and it's been my favorite on the market. BUT the GFX 100 is INCREDIBLE and I really think does exceed the GFX 50. If I had to buy one of those 2 I'd definitely buy the GFX 100. (I'm not sponsored by Fiji Film, and I could absolutely say if I hated this camera, but I truly do think it's amazing).

This review is totally moot. You need to use updated firmware to appreciate the AF improvements. Also, as a GFX 50s owner, the ergonomics are nothing like the 50s. None of the vintage dials as per all of the Fujifilm X cameras. It is an amazing camera with a totally new physical user interface.

interesting... so in your mind the GFX100 noise level is higher than the 50s?

I don't think the noise is higher in the 100 than the 50. I am a stickler for noise in cameras so I may have been harsh on the 100. But I definitely don't think the noise level is higher on it compared to the 50. I really should do a comparison of the 2 in the near future!
@akkual5 жыл бұрын
One must normalize the resolutions for high ISO test, if one wants to compare them. Of course there will be a lot of noise as the pixels are smaller, but once you downscale the GFX100 files to 50mp they will be cleaner than GFX50S/R files and the difference will be significant.

Great consumer test, amazing to actually see the camera in use and how it handles light and shadow. Was very surprised at the over exposure test how it couldn't even handle +2, but fantastic in the shadows which would be great for the car photography we do at shows. But at the moment, for the price I don't think it would give us any more than a Sony A7R3. Again the ISO test was shocking and as you said I wouldn't push it past 400 ISO, so I still think it's more of a studio or tripod camera. Thanks 👍

Have you set up custom AF modes btw? Did you even know they exist? It has SIX different modes! What's wrong with you to test a medium format camera and compare it to smaller cameras during continuous AF tracking?? It's the cheapest medium format camera out there and the best performing. And it would have hit every shot if you would take your sweet time to configure it.
