Fujifilm is killing it! I’m on canon RF and I’m pretty certain I’ll be switching over to Fuji in a few years to MF for landscapes.
@matt88169 Жыл бұрын
What Fuji has done here is amazing. I expect more FF models to go shutterless in the future, probably getting 50fps and other ridiculous features. But 8fps on MF? With Fuji's increasingly great AF on board? This is awfully close to "good enough" performance for pretty much whatever. Would I buy a GFX? Don't know - I'd have to try some lenses and do lots of math. Big, heavy setup for sure. Yet definitely a step in the right direction . . .
@Maxime-ho9iv Жыл бұрын
And 5fps without blackout, can you imagine? If the AF is good, they have a killer camera here.
@-grey Жыл бұрын
My personal philosophy is that there is a time spend and a time to save money. I don't think that this is the time to save and go for the marked down previous models to save a few quid. I think the jump here is significant enough that the saving will lead to disappointment. If the jump was less significant I'd say save the entire cost of the camera and don't upgrade, but I think in this case with all the QoL and UX considerations it's worth going for this one. It sounds silly, but I think that experience is definetly a get what you pay for kind of deal here, in a positive way, and I haven't felt that way about Fujifilm since the X-T2. So I'm hopeful for the future of the brand.

When people will realize this protruding viewfinder gives you 1x magnification, they will stick to this 100ii. Since magnification is proportional to sensor size, 1x on this is not only bigger compared to the 0.8x or 0.9x we're used to in full frame cameras due to the simple increase of the magnification, but even bigger since the sensor is bigger. You win 2 times here. This is a dream.

Hello Gordon, I’ve gotten this camera for 4 months now. I’ve watched your review multiple times (just like your other reviews and your book). It’s amazing especially when paired with 55mm f/1.7. The 20-35mm f/4, not so much, but there’s no better alternative. If you do end up making a follow up review I have some requests: 1. Video in practice. You and ZY Cheng are the only two I’ve seen who even attempted video review. But they cover only the crop factor and resolution implications, not in real use. And if it’s not meant for real use, why not? 2. Flash photography. Aside from occasional mentions of the sync speed, no one seems to have put it to test. 3. Adapting DSLR lenses. It’s no secret native options are few. Kevin Deal talked about adapting vintage lenses. But I found little on adapting say Canon EF lenses in practice. Cheers

I remember when I upgraded my original 50S to the original 100, and I remember, watching Gordon's review on that, I was absolutely blown away and YES, that was truly an upgrade. A radical new camera in every way, 100MP vs 50, PD AF vs contrast, 4K video vs 1080p, IBIS vs none. Now from the 100 to the 100II? This is no upgrade nor a "new" camera.. it's called a REVISION no matter how it's sold as or marketed as.

You're wrong. FF is larger than APS-C by a factor of 2.28-2.53 (depending on which APS-C we are considering). The GFX sensor is only 1.7 times larger than FF. So the difference between APS-C and FF is noticeably bigger than between FF and Fuji's medium format.

@@andersistbesser Both in the video and now in the comments we are talking about the AREA of the frame, not the diagonal. If you want to talk about the crop factor, then yes, Canon has 1.6, Nikon/Sony has 1.5. But the Fuji crop factor is 0.78, which means a ratio of about 1.27 to full frame (which again shows that the difference between APS-C and FF is larger). Dude, you need to improve your math and not argue in the comments.
@monstermiu5 ай бұрын
@@EdvardKALENNo, you're wrong. The ratio can't tell the actual size difference. The mf area = 1452, ff = 864, apsc = 384. The mf - ff = 588, still bigger than the gap of ff to apsc(which is 480), its because the mf volumn is very large, it dont have to need a bigger ratio.

An interesting camera and one could say; "But the cost !" However a couple of weeks back I briefly got to play for a couple of hours with a GFXsII 50mpx camera and cost wasn't really my main concern. I suspect that the actual body is pretty similar to the one you are reviewing and combined with a zoom lens, I thought the whole thing was pretty awkward to hand hold, one for a tripod for sure and hardly for 'street photography'. Obviously this would be a brilliant camera for landscape photography but I'm not sure that I could afford the cost of the porters to cart the kit around for me :) Seriously though, whilst people may well lust after it because of it's 102 mpx, as I have used a Canon 5DS for the past 5 years which ergonomically is far better to handle, the downside to high megapixel cameras lies in the file size and the impact that has on post and storage, 50mpx RAW files can make many PC's eyes water ! For me, ergonomics and cost aside, these type of cameras are rather niche tools which if you need them are invaluable but I don't suppose they will sell many, neither do they and hence the price.

The GFX 100ii is only 2.2 lbs same weight as the Canon R3 The Canon IDX which I had before was 3lbs so really not that bad.
@johnhaynes9910 Жыл бұрын
@@photophilsteingard8374 Perhaps not the point I am making. It's not just about the body weight, there are the lenses to consider too which are extra but it goes beyond this, it is the ergonomics of the combined package. I have a 1DX MkII and whilst that is heavy, because of the body design and combined with say a 300mm prime, it works, there is a balance that you would probably have to add the battery grip to the GFX, more bulk. I handled a R3 and thought that even better than my 1DX but it is not a 'fanboy' brand thing, it is about the design used in a real world situation. This camera (GFX) will suit some people but I suspect that it is a very niche product.

It's a hard one to balance. If it had 2x CFE, people would complain it was too expensive to use - yes, even a camera like this. Plus how many times would you actually need 2x CFE? Just wondering about the AF speed, how does it compare to the X-H2S and X-H2? I know it’s absurd comparing AF speeds in the 2 systems, but the only reason I didn’t complement my Fujifilm X system with the GFX system was the slow handling and AF of the GFX100S. I choose instead to keep my Sony full frame system. If this GFX100 II’s speed and AF is significantly better than the GFX100S, I would definitely reconsider moving to the X/GFX dual system, with the Fujifilm X system doing most of the regular sports/travel duties.
@cameralabs Жыл бұрын
The Af speed keeps getting better with new GFX bodies and lenses, but still feels leisurely vs a modern X body.
@RM-hy4so Жыл бұрын
@@cameralabs Thanks, I guess some KZbinrs saying that it rivals the Canon R5 is optimistic at best. I tried the GFX100S and loved the output but not the operating speed or AF. I figured pairing that camera with my X-H2S would be quite frustrating. I was hoping that the GFX100 II, would be more responsive and fast. I wasn’t expecting X-H2S performance but somewhat less leisurely. I guess moving from Sony to a X/GFX system is not in the cards.
@cameralabs Жыл бұрын
@@RM-hy4so it really depends on the subject type, situation and lens, the latter especially so in this system. You may find for your application that it's perfectly fine, or maybe not good enough - you'd really need to try it out. The subject detection is certainly similar to recent X bodies, but the actual AF drive will be different.

My 100s with the 100-200 doesn't feel any heavier than my a7r V with a 100-400 if that gives you a clue. The 100 II is only 100 gm or so heavier I think. A bag with 4 GF lenses is heavy but so is a bag full of FF lenses as I carry more of them :)

@@trollfiddler is your argument - you have the choice of 100-200 + crop to "nearly" reach 100-300 (400) - basically we can work around the long focal length issue - unless that is THE major goal.

THE BRAW is the reason i have said that the L mount alliance is going to take over. Sony will have to develop there own RAW and canon will need to start enabling it in there R series camera very soon. DJI - Lidar & Gimbal BM - BRAW Fuji - LUT & Film colour Panasonic - Engineering Leica - L mount fantastic lenses Sigma - Lens production when you look at this combination you can start to see what is about to happen looking forward to Blackmagic announcement next. There reason all this companies cannot be purchased by a single entity is because it will be anti-competitive and there will then have to be broken down again. has they will have a massive monopoly has a single company.
