I would never trade my XT5 for an Instax, but I did add an Instax to my creative arsenal! And why? Because of FUN! I bought the Evo mini and carry it in my daily backpack along with a Fieldnotes notebook. I kind of use the two for a mini-photo journal. When I see something interesting I take a Instax photo then print it and tape it into my Fieldnotes book and write the date and a short caption. Just one of the things I have done lately to put the fun back into my photography. And Thank You for all your videos, you are my favorite person to watch on KZbin!

Im 65, and I had polaroid cameras back in the 70's, but I never liked the expense of having to toss out bad exposure and pictures. It always seemed to be wasteful.

Fujifilm is cutting corners now. Bit like their high end cameras they're getting worse (X-T3 had the best auto focus, the current X-T5 is AWFUL). With the mini 99, the mini 90 is better in every way. MUCH better build quality and design. My new mini 99 feels like pound shop quality and is already broken with jammed dials and faulty ports. Mini 90 lasted for ages, years and years. Fuji cutting corners with cheaper manufacturing. Raking in the profits 💰

That camera looks great, I hope they release something similar on square mode. 8:41 By the way, moving the modes to the color effects wheel into a single one, would mean that you wouldn't be able to combine them, which would in turn limit the creative options, so I think it's perfect as it is
@MorwenWhyte5 ай бұрын
This camera is pretty pricy in my country but I like some unique stuff about it compared to the other instant cameras that are available here (like the Lomo), specially the sports mode since I want to take photos of cats, and I'm glad that someone (you) finally made a practical example use of that feature. I just hope the build quality of the 99 is better than that of the Lomos, those seem too fragile for some reason.

Well, the camera doesn't do the double exposure (like a digital camera), the film is just double exposed.

Hi. Can I have some advice? I'm new to the world of instant cameras. I'm hesitating between the Mini 99 and the Evo, mostly because I don't understand the lens differences. The Evo has a 28mm lens, and the 99 has a 60mm f/12.7 lens. I'm having a hard time finding a comparison between these two lenses. I want an instant camera that will allow me to take pictures mostly of buildings and landscapes while traveling. I'm worried that the 60mm lens will make the landscape look blurry, but I really love the idea of an analog camera over the Evo. Can someone help? I don't need good quality either, we are talking about an instant camera, but what is the point if everything is blurry from afar?
@thomasmacdonough2884 ай бұрын
The lens on the Evo is a 28mm F2 lens. This is pretty wide angle, for reference the human eye sees ~ what a 50mm lens would. The aperture being locked at F2 means that you can shoot indoors or outdoors without flash as it lets in enough light and you'd get a good bokeh effect if you're close to your subject. The 99's lens being 60mm means you'll have to stand further from your subject than the Evo, and the f12.7 only lets you shoot in broad daylight or under flash but everything in frame will be in focus. Given your subject material being landscapes and buildings I would definitely say go 99 over the Evo. F2 is way too much light for landscapes (it's usually recommended to go with at least F8 or lower) otherwise you might soften or blur parts of your image you don't want blurry, and its wide angle lens can cause some distortion. But I would also recommend looking at something like a Fujifilm SQ1 or SQ40, the cost of film is slightly more but you'll get bigger and more detailed prints, and the lens is about the same as the 99 as it's a 65mm f12.6.

Hey guys, here is a question for all of you guys and chris, I have started doing architectural photography professional, with my xt30ii and was thinking about getting the Osmo Pocket 3 for videos, should I get the Pocket 3 or should I get a gimbal instead for the xt30ii I will mainly be shooting vertical videos mostly. Would love to hear your opinion!

I really wish they would have added those preset focus distances on the X100VI so we could zone focus easier. Or better yet, let us set a custom button to prefocus the lens to a user defined distance. :-)

I have the Instax mini evo and I'm thinking of selling it to buy this one. Just something about an actual analog instant film camera gets lost on the digital camera that prints to Instax film like the Evo. Nice review Chris.

Fuji needs to address the low dynamic range of the instax film. It is almost unusable if you want to shoot a subject outdoors with a wood visible

Agree the 4 AA batteries is better than built-in permanent rechargable batteries...the latter ALWAYS become less effective over time, u til they are so bad at holdimg a charge that you throw out the entire device...instead of just changing batteries.
