Thank you! Finally an informative video about the FinePix 3D with some usefull info. I had to endure the torture of watching so many videos that were totally unprepared and unscripted about this camera that I almost gave up. I had this device somewhere around 2011 and sold it a few years later. Regretted selling it ever since and FINALLY managed to find a "new old stock" sealed in the box from Canada. Hoping to get it over here in about a week. Can't wait to start shooting 3D again and put the picture in my Oculus Quest 2!

I also have this camera and i love it.. before i got it ages ago i used to do cha-cha.. with that i mean take 2 pictures with one shifted sideways based on how far my object was.. but the crucial thing i want you to know is that 3dimages doesn't need any fancy gadgets to view.. only screensize to see both picture at the same time.. i do crosswise viewing. some freaks i guess do parallel viewing. the thing is that you trick your brain by looking at each image with one eye and at the same time focusing on the depth of whatever medium you use for viewing. its easier done than it sounds. in my mind this is the optimal way of viewing stereo 3d art. no ghosting or shit like that.. a little anecdote.. i find it funny that even as i a kid having to print out each picture on a poor inkjet printer with horrendous quality the 3d image looked considerably better.. astounding difference. thanx for the fine video of the camera! i hope you'll have fun with it.

I'm thinking of getting myself a 3D camera for my birthday. Being able to relive memories in 3D would be like magic

So true, I am glad I got mine right when it came out in 2009. It is great to see 3D memories that are up to 14 years old! Some are of loved ones who sadly passed away since then, but seeing them on a 3D-TV or even just in anaglyph makes them appear alive more than normals pictures do. Get one now, you future self will thank you for it!

@alexmultimodalpackrafting915Ай бұрын
You can transfer them to any VR headset. With Meta Quest it is still a bit cumbersome but doable and the effect ist better than on a 3D TV (I still watch 3D movies mine, Avatar 1 & 2 and Mad Max: Fury Road are still sooo much better in 3D).

Awesome camera. Those MPO files are compatible with 3D TVs. Pity they discontinued them. Now with VR gaining popularity I hope they release something similar

I love these things. Got them back in the day. First a W1, then a W3. Got a back-up W3 and I and my buddy use them to photograph places that are changing around town for an eventual archival accrual. I had the W1 converted to shoot infrared. 3D infrared video in the forest is pretty trippy. :) Got a back-up W1 a while ago as well. I don't know how long these things will last; in 2009, I thought everything by now would be 3D. Nope, not even a little bit. Hard to believe, given phones have two, three, four cameras built in now!

Cool! FWIW: You don't need special glasses. You can use the cross-eye method: you cross your eyes until the two images converge and voilà, you have a 3d image! (You have to get the two images in the right order, though)

I bought this camera back in 2011. It was pretty expensive and not available in stores here in Switzerland, so I had to buy it online. The 3d screen was amazing, much better than the one of the Nintendo 3ds. I used to watch the 3d files using the mode where the 2 images are being displayed side by side and you have to kind of "cross your eyes" - it takes a bit of training and shouldn't be done for too long (it's not particuarly good for your eyes...), but it does work. I even bought a third-party-gadget that you could put onto the w3 to make it macro-able. It was my first camera and made me curious about photography. The 3d effect wears off quickly IMHO and there never were really any alternatives to the built-in display to watch the images. But I went out with this little thing and made a lot of pictures and it became a hobby. Not because of the 3d but photography in general. In 2014 I bought the Nikon D7000 and in 2015 I sold it and bought the D750 which I still use today.

I got my w1 from my best friend somewhere in 2009 in japan… had it ever since but the battery isnt functional anymore i think… i winder if its worth getting a battery (if they are still even produced) and see what can be dine with the camera in regards with VR. I have a meta quest 2 so technically, if a workflow is found, the images could possibly be seen in VR?
@GertjanVanVooren5 ай бұрын
That could be the case! I might have to test this out as well

So what i dont real understand from ya video. Could i export this "Boomerrang"-Effected Videso als GIF, MOV, MP4 or something? That would be the value for me, instead of 3D-glasses.

i'd love to see someone release one of these with four lenses like the nishika n8000. you definitely got it for a steal though. i'm surprised these are going for so much. it looks super convenient, but for the current cost i think i'll stick with my nishika =-)

The Nishika's effect is way cooler in my opinion! The cost & workflow is slower, but it pays off. Thanks for your input :)

Please, please do your kids (and yourself) a favour and take 3D pictures of them and you NOW. I got my Fujifilm 3D W3 in 2009 and many grown-up kids of my friends back then, who are now in their 20s and 30s are very happy to have and occasionally watch 3D pics and videos of them as kids on their VR-headsets. Although only in 720-HD it is uncanny how immersive the 3D-effect can bring back places that don't exist anymore or people who have unfortunately passed away since the early 2010s. Yes 3D movies and TVs are dead (for now). But our Brain is hardwired to emotionally react strongly to 3D images, because that's how we experience the world moment by moment. Since 60% of our brain is mainly preoccupied with processing visual information in 3D, the only reason we and many other creatures have developed two eyes in close proximity with each other, it was only a matter of time that 3D returned to the mainstream through VR/AR.

I got one too and I use it regularly, as I also own a Quest V1 Headset. Via Pigasus I can see the pics in the Headset and it's fun. But I did not mess around with Video, as it's 640x480 px wich is just not good for Video.
