I need this! I handed my wife my X-T5 and XF 100-400mm to take photos of hummingbirds and she wants a setup now. She nailed some birds in-flight. Current firmware. The AF issues are quite over-exaggerated. Man, I'd love to try this new 500mm!

I wish they had made this possible to work with GF and XF systems, Ive used the GF500 and its great, but to had a modular lens design to then use on XF wouldn't have been too hard and potentially very handy to Fuji users.

First of all Fuji must repair their focus problems in camera to justiy aquisition of new lenses. Also in your video i notice a lot of photos out of focus when the subject is moving. So, Fuji first of all release new firmware for XH2s. Or users must roll back to 1.3 firmware version.

@@nandysullivan3005 oh, i have been using that using adapted lenses. But it would be great to see them matching the AF of the bigger players. Although i also shoot with Sony and Canon, i still prefer the fuji colors. If they sort out their AF dramas in the near future, i am seriously considering of using the fuji system more seriously.

I was hoping for f4, or even f4.5 from a 500mm prime. The 150-600mm zoom is f7.1 at 500mm so this is only a 2/3 stop gain. The image quality on the 150-600mm zoom is very good so for me to make the leap it will come down to handling and autofocus. The autofocus may depend on recently announced firmware updates for the X-H cameras. This will be a wait and see for me.

the secret really is the rear glass element size. the150-600 is so bad because the tiny hole the light has to squeeze through to get to the sensor. it never beat the100-400 because it was compromised by that pin hole. Hope for better design with this new prime 500mm

Shame it’s not a 500mm F4 lens after all Fujifilm produced a 200mm F2 and both of these lens specifications are available for full frame cameras.

This is an odd decision by Fujifilm. The price point is quite high for a f5.6 500mm lens. Considering it's actually a GFX lens with much greater coverage, it makes me wonder if it would have been possible to make it into an f4 lens for the APS-C sensor. Then the price point would've made sense. I have the 150-600mm zoom and I feel it to be the much better choice vs. the relatively slow and much more expensive 500mm. At 500mm the zoom is only 2/3 of a stop slower. Frankly I can't see the point of this lens when there's the 150-600mm available at a much lower price.

Have the fuji 100 to 400 mm with 1.4x teleconverter. With my xt5 and upgrade autofocus i can make very good photographs .$2900 plus cost is a bit out of my budget

Interesting to hear is a pretty sharp lens. What a pity to wait this with camera like the XT5 and get 2 or 3 pics out of 10 in focus. have you made any comparison with other system? Better to fix the AF issue before is too late.

If you're getting 2/10 pics in focus with an XT-5, problem is not the camera, it's the user.

This just BS on Fuji's part, taking a GFX lens and putting an X mount on it is just taking the piss, this lens could have been smaller and faster if it was designed for the X mount body. you'd be better off buying a finger adapter and getting the nikkor PF class for the same price and in some cases cheaper, it also give you the 300mm and 400mm options.

A 500mm f 5.6 is going to have a diameter over 90mm regardless of what sensor size it covers.

@@daveboyle5751 I don’t know about the 16-55, but what “f stop” literally means is the ratio between the focal length of a lens and its diameter. It’s mathematically impossible for a 500mm f5.6 to be less than 90mm in diameter. The size is a function of the maximum aperture.
