Hey, I think if you're considering doing any mobile video work, then yes because of the IBIS in the S10, if you're only doing video on a tripod though, they basically end up being the same camera. Sort of just depends on what you prefer in terms of ergonomics and if you want/need that IBIS.

Huge benefit of the X100V to me: NOT having the ability to change lenses. It's like in the old days - "I'll bring the camera". As in THE camera that has that one lens. No fussing about which lens to take etc. just throw it in the bag. Done.

Lenses break. Being able to fix the whole system by changing a component, is valuable. Also, different lenses mean different systems. Grab a compact zoom lens with nice and wide aperture and short minimal focus distance and you're set in the "single camera" department! Sure it's gonna be hella expensive and a perfect lens doesn't exist, but hey, "single camera"! Also, kit lenses (when made meaningfully, and not as a nudge to buy a better one) exist for that exact reason.

The most irritating thing about the X-E4 is not having a focus mode switch and an ISO selector of some kind. It would have been a superb camera had Fuji not gone cheap with the physical controls. There are things that I deem essential and that must be accessible on the top tier: Focus Mode, ISO and Drive. Of the three none is accessible directly in the E4. IMHO it is one of the poorest designs of the entire X line. OTOH, the X100V is brilliant, a true leap forward of a genial design that gave the photography world what Leica should have created long time ago.
@benbunch4159 Жыл бұрын
It has a drive mode button and and has a Fn button I use for ISO. You then have focus modes on one of the LCD swipes which is annoying but not the end of the world.

I think fuji likes to use the X-e line to test out changes that may come down the line on other products.. like the xe3 was the first to get bluetooth, that later showed up on other cameras with a much improved experience. so the button layout maybe something they are playing with to see what works in the real world. Good video!
@riverpb52502 жыл бұрын
actually, in the case of XE4, i've read some articles theorising that the reason for the drastic change of the XE4 is that fuji is planning to kill the XA line entirely and that the XE line is going to be the "entry level" line. the XA7 apparently did not sell well, and just the general "cheap" / "basic" entry level niche isn't booming in the camera industry (since everyone uses phones on that level) initially, we all know that the XE was an XPRO-LITE. with the original E1 and E2 (which i both own) have the same exact design from the xpro... but smaller. but now, they''ve realised that the XE lineup doesn't sell as much because the XT20/XT30 is cannibalising this category, so might as well relegate the cheapest "proper" fuji

Huh ! The 3rd time watching this video, still picking up different things … different ideas about how I could use each of them. One thing that occurred to me, if u wanted a camera where u can change the lenses - ie the xe4 in this compo - would u not go for xT2 or 3 with - I believe - with an ASA adjustment already available, rather than assigning a it to a spare control … don’t worry, it’s probably a very easy answer if I looked at the specs, but just kinda wondered why u didn’t mention them at all… not EDC cameras perhaps … // Anyway, great video, thanks.

No doubt that the XE-4 is receiving a reinvigorated boost in sales in light of the X100V being almost unobtainable at the moment. @LimitedWard2 жыл бұрын
One additional consideration is whether you're already invested in the Fuji lens system. IMO the cost savings really only applies if you already own multiple Fuji lenses. Yes you're saving $100 with the XE4 + 23mm, but if this is your first Fuji camera and you're already planning on getting more lenses later, then that savings is a moot point. Plus you're getting a lot more bang for buck with that extra $100.

If one limits the X-E4 options to the f/2 Fujicrons, probably best to remember you have two additional FL options on the X100V also through lens adapters.

You were talking about the button placement and we're confused why the designers hadn't put play button in the same place as on the X100V...well, one reason could be that it has allowed he joystick to be moved away from the bad place it's in, on the X100V (where my thumb kept landing on; moving the focal point off, until I bought a thumb rest) and has allowed the X-E4’s joystick to move out of the way...

I get the sense that a lot of shooters have never shot a camera that TRULY gets out of their way so they can focus on creating. Most of what I've seen said about the XE4 is like getting ANY new camera --> the "new camera blues". I also think that "you get used to it", and then it's your new normal. Then shortly after that you wonder how you ever survived your entire life w/out having an XE4. :) I take my GRii out a lot for the simple reason that it's less "in my way" than my A7iii and A6500. My prediction is... history will rate the XE4 much higher than it's being rated today. (someone screenshot that so they can call me out later). LOL I think another issue is people "thinking" the that XE4 is the "new XE3" and that's totally gonna lead to disappointment. But I think Fuji's is the blame for this because of the naming convention used. As far as "less functional" controls than the x100v I disagree. The xe4 is just designed to be shot differently. I also find it interesting that Fuji users say they want something more like Leica but as soon as you reduce the physical buttons people lose their minds. If you set your camera up to win you lose nothing functionally between the 2. You will outgrow the x100v if you ever wake up and don't want to use a teleconverter (every added piece of glass you put between the subject and the sensor degrades quality). If that happens you have to buy a new body. If you outgrow the xe4 you're only a lens purchase away not a new body. The Xe4 is future-proof in that way. :) IG: freshouttafocus

@Annie If custom recipes is a primary concern, then the X-E4 is the one for you. While previous models can save custom settings there are some limitations in the firmware, mainly not being able to save White Balance shifts as part of the custom setting. This is can be quite a frustrating limitation and the later cameras such as the X-E4 fix it. The additional film simulations and improvements of saving custom recipes It is one of the reasons I am upgrading my X-E3 to the X-E4. As well as better Autofocus etc. of course. Fuji X Weekly is the place to start for custom settings, for the X-E4 you will choose the X-Trans IV ones.

Nah X-E4 is far from perfect EDC (even though i want it to be, SO MUCH), but not for the reasons many think. Those reasons are - 1. Exposed ribbon cable 2. Lack of weatherproofing I'm ok with just one control wheel - it hurts but it's ok. I'm ok with no grip - style points. I'm ok with no AF switch - now it's 2 taps instead of 1 flick. I'm ok with that round viewfinder and even with it's x0.62 mag. That thread placement hurts but i can live with it. HOWEVER: a6400 - + Cheaper + Smaller (only height really matters cuz you will still put a lens that's longer than the grip) +++ Weather sealed - a must for any EDC + Better viewfinder magnification + Proper thread position - aligned with the lens + Flippy screen WITH A PROTECTED RIBBON + Sigmas for sony are also cheaper + Better AF + Tracking point in videos -+ PSAM (to me, it's a negative, but that's subjective) - Worse overall ergonomics and interface - Worse app - Worse manual focus cuz of that screen res - Screen doesn't flip to portrait mode - Slower software - Worse screen res and 16:9

I mean, the most fun version would be both the X-E4 with the 56/1.2 and the X100V 😂 But if it’s a one camera thing, you could do the X-E4 with the 23/2 + 56/1.2 and have a pretty killer kit.

@@benjhaisch haha you’re so right 😂 if only my pockets were that fat. That is true, I’m just wondering if the XE-4 body itself wouldn’t inspire me like the X100 series did. If you could only choose one, what would you do? I also watched your video on the X100V as a travel camera, and I think I’m 60/40 leaning towards it because at this point it’s the compactness and fun of the X100V vs the image and versatility of basically the 56mm 😂 whatever you decide, I’ll use your link to order

No, the XE4 does not have 'less usability' because various controls have gone. Finding the options is simply that - the options are in the camera, even the ability to program 'snap focus'. I would have thought 'simplification' is an excellent principle that camera manufacturers should be following. Fuji's move with the XE4 makes it, to my mind, the paramount street camera. The 100V is too big - less stealth than the XE4 and, I add, seriously, the brilliant but reviled XF10.

Nice Benji! I own the Olympus OMD EM1 Mk II with a handful of primes and the the wonderful Pro 12-40mm f/2.8 (24-80 equivalent). I also have the Panny/Leica LX-100 Mk I,which I love. Just ordered the Fuji X-E4 as I wanted a world class travel/street camera. Deliberated between the X100V and the X-E4. Love the X100V viewfinder, ND filter, leaf shutter and 23mm lens, but ultimately the lens interchangeability, ability to use OIS lenses, slightly more flexible video won out for me. I ordered it in silver kit with the 23mm f/2.8 pancake. Also picked up the nice 18-55 f/2.8-4.0 WR OIS lens for all around shooting. Wanted to ask you where you got your nice camera straps

@@benjhaisch The point is that it is perfectly possibly to have the X-E similar in size to the X100V when choosing the ILC. 23mm vs. 27mm is up to the user. I could equally argue, what if you don't want the 23mm f2.
@floetic3 жыл бұрын
@@benjhaisch the 5mm difference matters to some, not to others. In fact, some ppl may prefer the roughly 40mm full frame equivalent field of view of the 27mm, particularly for street. It's worth mentioning, particularly considering the whole marketing push of this camera along with that pancake lens. Not sure you can just not mention that lens and talk about size issues between the two cameras...

@@floetic " In fact, some ppl may prefer the roughly 40mm full frame equivalent field of view of the 27mm" Correct, I didn't get along with the 23mm on the X100T. On discovering the 27mm I immediately swapped to the X-E3/27 combo since my primary aim was compactness in the Fujifilm system. Since the X-E4 is being sold with the 27mm it is odd not compare relative sizes of these two EDC cameras.

E4 needs Fuji's expensive grip which then makes the same price as the V. As a glasses wearer I'm surprised you didn't mention the recessed and much poorer resolution eyepiece. Supposedly it's even poor for non glasses wearers. It may have interchangeable lenses and a selfie screen but it loses so much over the V. This sort of complex screen mechanism is an accident waiting to happen. Not one of Fuji's best efforts. Not so bad for owners who already have lenses.

Thanks for a great review! I'm wanting a one camera kit, so I'm just waiting for image stabilization in the x100 line, then I will get it. I gather they can't do that with a firmware upgrade, so I will probably have to wait for the next model.
@fredbloggs5453 жыл бұрын
You will have a long wait, Fujifilm can't fit their IBIS into such a small body. If you aren't doing video you don't need IBIS anyway.
@wyatthunter9872 жыл бұрын
Fuji have no reason to do that, it’s not the purpose of this line of cameras. Also, if IBIS doesn’t fit in the xe and xt line I don’t know how it would in an X100. I’m not the most steady shooter and honestly I never felt like my x100v needed stabilization.

So, the Xe4 has the better screen, better video options, and interchangeable lenses, but the x100v has ever so slightly better ergonomics, is weather sealed, better viewfinder.... Wish there was an option that combined the pro's of both (while remaining more compact than the xt4). Maybe I must wait for the Xe5?

@@benjhaisch honestly, quite tempting, but I feel that's "a little much" already. I've got a high end apsc DSLR with a few lenses, and been thinking if I should get the x100v as secondary/everyday carry, or maybe get a pancake for my DSLR - also consider moving all over to a xt4 (would also allow me to shoot "proper" video), but with 2-3 lenses that'd be way more expensive than I can justify atm

I tried to get an x100v but its out stock and for some time, so i went for the xe4, im not too concerned about the lack of buttons or weather proofing , i would probably set it up to what i like and keep it as it is and im not likely to take photos in the rain or whilst surfing . Just switch on and shoot. My question is though, are the picture qualities the same? I've heard fuji make very sharp sensors. You'd think the xe4 would be lesser as its much cheaper? And is there an option on the xe4 in the menu to do silent shooting?
@darrylbrian Жыл бұрын
they have the same exact sensor so image quality is the same. also, if you switch to electronic shutter and turn off the electronic sound you will have a silent shutter. that’s exactly what i do.

I believe that the X100V can already be used as a webcam via an HDMI capture card (which is better quality and control than the Fuji webcam software). I personally am leaning towards the X100V for the quieter shutter and the built-in ND (and soon a firmware update to enable the built-in ND for video).

So it's a toss-up between a better viewfinder and interchangeable lenses. Not easy. I think the reality of it is that I'd be happy enough with that 35mm equivalent lens in nearly all the shooting situations this camera is for (I had a Voigtlander Bessa-R with 28mm pancake and never bothered to use anything else with it). But I'd still feel shortchanged by being tied to the one lens. I'd really need to see the XE4 viewfinder to decide. I'd also really like to have ISO control on the top plate, but could perhaps live without that. All this is a bit academic right now of course, as neither camera is available!

I thought the X100V shares the XT3 sensor, not the XT4? I think I'm in for the new XE4/new 27mm combo. I was already contemplating adding a used XE3. I think it's just too hard of a deal to pass up.
