@@benjhaisch it’s often too adventurous and risky to make such a categorical affirmation, but I’ll say it: I’m 100% convinced that this would be an epic camera for you, that’s it, is that damn good... Leica M experience is superior, but the Q... ohhhhh the Q.... Come visit to Spain (after this craziness is over) and I’ll share you mine one for an amazing holiday 🇪🇸😎

If the Q2 was the same price as the X100V, would you still go for the Fuii ? The Q2 lens / sensor and the ability to use the crop feature makes it superior camera, but the Fuji is a nice lower price option.

@@kiwipics the fuji’s DR400 mode allows me to capture about two stops of highlight detail without having to underexpose the image, leaving me with dark jpgs and hours of post processing time. You mention the lattitude in highlights. Perhaps good to add that Fuji callibrates their lightmeters with an 18% greycard like we used to do in the days of film. Most other brands use a 30% greycard with digital sensors.That results in a permanent slight underexposure of Fuji raw files giving them a bit more lattitude in highlights. Downside is less details in shadows, but that’s generally easier to correct in post. It’s not that Fuji has a higher dynamic range than other comparable cameras. I’ve been using the Fuji X-system professionally for quite a while. When I switched to another brand I really had to adjust my metering and workflow in post. Having said that, I still enjoy the X100V. For me a perfect example of great product management. In every iteration there’s a solid improvement, without throwing good stuff overboard like the did with the X-Pro3 (vs the X-Pro2).

Shooting in bright afternoon light wide open at ISO 160, I get the red, 2000+ SS warning, but when I turn on the 4stop ND the SS drops to between 160 and 250. That’s much too slow and NOT a versatile range. Have that at only f2.8. As I said, at 3stops this would have been a SS around 360-500. Does anyone else wonder why Fuji upped the ND filter to 4stops? Every talks like this is an improvement. What am l missing?

@@benjhaisch Iso 640. And I would gladly trade some noise in my shadows (which is easily fixable) for a beautiful rolloff in the highlights, especially with a hilight curve. This is something NOT fixable in post, unlike noise. And it works in raw too. How? Dr400 underexposes your shot internally (hence the higher iso requisite to give the sensor headroom) while also boosting your mids and shadows…. A laborious task in LR that is handle automatically in the raw file’s dr400 flag. On your operating system image viewer it will look underexposed, but in LR it comes in correct. To really understand: 1) shoot dr400, images that are back lit, white outfits, etc where your main exposure is a stop or two BELOW the hilight exposure. Shoot raw + jpg. 2) load the raw files in fuji x raw converter software (comes free with your camera. 3) find an image with bloomed hilights. 4) flick between dr400 and dr100. About that cute lens shade on your camera: can I assume it's the Haoge LH-X54W Square Metal Lens Hood on Amazon? One: When you tighten the hood onto the lens to what feels like a comfortably firm twist the opening on the hood ends up diagonal. When you back off the hood rotation to make the opening horizontal, the hood is now loose, making it easy to accidentally knock it off horizontal in use and therefore causing vignetting. It's mild, but it's vignetting. And it does that with or without a filter in the mix. Two: The Fuji supplied lens cap does not fit on the hood. Repeat, it does not. It looks right when you push it down on on one side but surprise, it's off on the opposite side. No amount of coaxing will make it sit correctly on the hood. It may be that they expect you to remove the rubber gasket inside the lens cap but that's the fault of their design tolerances, not Fuji's. I don't want to disfigure my cap to see if it might then fit on their hood. That's my experience...

Battery life? FujiFilm hit the sweet spot striking a balance between digital and a film like feel and I just love this camera. My question is about battery life. I have had the x100v for a few weeks now and the battery is not performing as I would expect. The first few days I had the camera and after fully charging the battery it was fully depleted by day three with about 30 frames taken. I had the camera on for a few hours here and there over the three days mainly to setup the connection to my phone and look through the menus and assign functions to different dials. I am somewhat basing my expectations on how my Nikon D7500's battery performs. However, I realize the two batteries are not the same. FujiFilm rates the battery life at something like 350 images when EVF is set to normal mode. Please comment about battery life.

Do you use film-like presets built into the camera, or do you pull all your files into lightroom from this and then edit them with your presets there? I just don't want to edit my personal photos I guess, bc I edit for work all day....

I don’t often like the film recipes but many really do love them.

Thank you Benj for this good video, like all your other ones. I want this x100 so badly to go alongside my xpro3. Especially with its 35mm equivalent. I take my xpro3 when I ride my bicycle and it's on the heavy side to shoot with one hand while riding, also it forces me in that specific case to take my eyes off the road (thank you Fuji for the hidden screen). Plus falling with a 3000€ camera+lens... Well... For the shutter release button, I bought a Gariz, it's on the pricey side but it's beautiful, precisely machined and I'm using it on my old Pentax Super A and my Fuji x20, xt2 and xpro3 with no issues.

Well, I bought x100f when it came out for similar thing. Camera to take with me while cycling. Dunno what kind of cycling you are doing, but x100 also is not a cheap camera to break while falling. Also it’s not that small. Anyway - it’s great and on some rides it’s worth taking it. Personally my main concern in sweat and how AF wants to focus on wrong things, but count that as user error. Phone on other hand seems good enough for cycling

@@gunarstreikals2099 Thanks Gunars for your answer. It's road cycling in and out of town, between 20 and 40kms each time. I tried phone but no good grip and unlocking it is a hassle especially with gloves. I don't have iPhone so no face recognition. About the price I found used ones in mint condition between 800 and 1000€, interesting price. Looking for that 100v because I like Fuji and I intend to use it on bike and streets.

@@REMY.C. on android you can try to set it up that double click of unlock button will switch on the camera and volume button will take the picture. At least that’s doable with gloves if necessary. But surely image quality is much much better with Fuji. I sometimes take it on rides.when hanging on shoulder strap compensation dial sometimes turns, so it’s something to keep in mind when taking quick photos on the go. Also would like to update to V from F just because of the updated lens )))

your lens hood is squarehood MKII or MKIII?
@JustLovely8212 жыл бұрын
Thanks for this great video! Do you use a lens cap for your sqaurehood? I ended up buying the Haoge hood with the cap and found that it doesn't really stay on and very easily gets knocked off, which is a huge problem :(.
@benjhaisch2 жыл бұрын
Nah, I figure the hood protects it enough

Are the picture samples in this video straight out of the camera (or after photoshop)?

I have the X100T, GR3 and the X100V. I’ve found that if I don’t have one of them... I miss it constantly... So, I keep all 3 and couldn’t be happier.😊 📸

Great video. What brand is the leather strap with Peak-type clips? What brand is the rectangular lens hood? Thanks for your reply.

Hi, 1. Does the V take the same batteries as the S? 2. Will my lens hoods for my S fit the V? Thanks
@RobCulhane3 жыл бұрын
Yes, the lens hood from the S or any of them from the original Fine Pix X100 will fit. My hood is the one I bought for the X100 8 years ago. Re: the battery compatibility. I don't know.

Great real-life review. I was worried about it for portraits. But your people pics look great. And I'm a Leica freak, but for the high cost..

Amazing video, since you have kids I was wondering how a camera like this performs on getting pictures of fast moving kids, more specifically with autofocus and sharp images, I have 2 very active boys and I would like a camera like this but I have doubts if the autofocus can keep up with it, I'm concious that is not sony performance just looking to get my very first camera and I would like to choose wisely, or do you recommend an interchangeable lens camera as a first camera, thanks in advance!

Is it possible to weather seal this camera with a circular polarizer filter instead of a UV filter?
@benjhaisch3 жыл бұрын
To my knowledge, yes. As long as water can’t get through the filter itself, you should be fine

Great video! Where did you get that stunning lens hood??

I come to this wanting 24 frames a sec video, the ability to override the auto exposure in video by a lot, and the ability to lock the video exposure no matter what. And curious how large can one print the jpegs on this at 300 d.p.i in the square format.

Hey Benj. Love your content. Just got a x100v to add to my Leica film cameras. How the heck do you get do you get the Peak Design strap clips through the x100v strap lugs? It’s impossibly small.
