I use the XPro3 for street and travel photography and I love it. The simplicity of shooting beautiful jpegs without having to think about Lightroom is a liberating reminder of why I fell in love with photography to begin with. It takes times to get used to the hidden screen but the net result is freedom to focus on the moment.

As far as I'm concerned the flip down screen is the most intuitive way to turn the rear LCD on and off. Every other camera you have to fidget with a button and flip through half a dozen view modes to turn the LCD off. Here, it's off by default, and only turns on when you know you want it. Perfect.

I can’t help but think back to the Digital Rev days, when you reviewed the original Fuji X100. It was so unusual at the time, with the electronic hybrid viewfinder and the Leica styling that you decided that it would not really suit most people, but would appeal to some. Time has passed and the Fuji x100 is still with us, constantly being updated and refined. I remember your ending comment on that review, something like , “it’s not for everyone, but kudos to Fujifilm for daring to do something different, Fuji, I salute you”. Looks like history is going to repeat itself.

It's already funny how people argue about the screen and hate it, haha. To be honest I really like the screen since I shoot a lot of film and for a camera like the X-Pro series (having just the X-Pro1 myself) this kind of screen is absolutely not a deal breaker. I rather welcome the idea of this tiny screen reminding which film simulation or setting in short you have... just like the holder thing on the back of a film camera.
@Ruylopez7785 жыл бұрын
I guess it will work for the people who used to shoot film or still shoot both. They really should have made it like the Olympus Pen F, where you can twist it round to hide the screen. Like Kai said, Leica can get away with it, sort of (though they still get slagged off for the M-D by the digital crowd) because they're going for a different market. I feel it's a bit pretentious for Fuji, especially how they market their simulations, while killing off their film stocks.

Understanding Fujifilm wants to mimic and offer the film camera experience back in the old days, but one thing Fujifilm could take into consideration possibly for X-Pro 4. Change the tilting screen to fully articulated screen. Users can get to choose either the large LCD screen for convenience or small mono screen for old film camera experience. And plus, you can do vlogging with that camera if desired!
@onegrapefruitlover5 жыл бұрын
Fully articulated screens are cumbersome and really slow if you just need to shoot low. I'm not saying this is the perfect solution but going fully articulated would suck.

I’d rather have a camera that emphasizes capturing the moment rather than fiddling with settings. I’ve primarily used an 80D for wedding photography, but using it for street photography is so tedious. It’s better to not have to take a picture in order to find out if your settings are correct or not; looking through the viewfinder and seeing exactly how the picture will turn out saves so much time. Now if only Fuji lenses weren’t so incredibly expensive!

So by default have a screen that shows the film style selected, then just tap the screen if you want to see what the lens sees or view/adjust settings. Setting it up in hardware like this simply takes the option away from the user, with very little gain. It’s a poor design choice.

I just got an X-Pro3. I've had a couple X100's and a Pro2. I may be one of the ten people that actually use the OVF so my request is statically HUGE. On all the other hybrid viewfinders I've used from Fuji, in the OVF mode the parallax frame lines move to compensate when the shutter is 1/2 pressed and return to the neutral infinity position as soon as the shutter button is released. On the Pro3 I have, The parallax correction moves the framing box but DOES NOT RETURN TO THE NEUTRAL POSITION. This is VERY annoying when recomposing the next image at infinity after many years of muscle memory stored with the other Fuji Hybrids. If one close focuses and the frame moves to the lower right it remains there even when the camera is turned off and on again. And besides, it just ain't natural, Mate. It violates well known cosmic laws regarding such matters. I called Fuji support and they appeared clueless but only said they'd pass it along. Since you have a popular channel and are a witty Chinese guy with a British ascent (I'm not sure of another combination that might carry more instant authority) I thought perhaps you may get more attention if you brought it up.

Nice "quickie" review, but this is not a camera for the masses. The X-Pro aesthetic has been fairly consistent since its introduction in 2012. This is street/reportage-centric camera, not a general use shooter like the XT3. It is great that Fuji gives photographers options, even better that they've given us a worthy successor to the X-Pro2. I don't think Fuji will lament (or even expect) mass market sales numbers for this one. But then again, the new GFX-100 monster is selling better than anyone expected.

Now Fuji is plagued with flippy screens that are failing because of that poor ribbon connector they used!

Still not understanding the complaints of these new LCD screen functionality issues. Flip it down, it's a extra grip for stability. Has waist level Live View. When you're actually shooting you're not marring up your screen with scratches or grease from your face and fingers. It looks like a film camera (low key shooting) If you wanted to shoot video, real video, you'd be adding an external monitor like the Ninja. You'd actually be building out a rig setup. Otherwise the video shooting limit would be #1 problem and not the LCD screen. Say you're a wedding photographer and you're shooting hand held shots in small burst as well as video, this camera is more than adequate for that type of hybrid shooting (as is 99.9% of all current semi-pro & pro cameras are today. This camera is perfect for candids as it barely has any markings and where it does you won't really need any tape. The rear square LCD screen won't be super bright in low light which in my opinion is a good thing (non-distracting). I don't always like that my top LCD is so bright and has no brightness control. Even the rear lcd screen when brightness is set to its lowest is still too bright. Having it on a Trip-pod seems to be the only glaring issue with the LCD screen design sounds like you just need a longer neck and adjust the legs shorter. There's always a work around if you use your brain a little in preparation. No excuses all these cameras can do everything and while none will be perfect, they all can do everything really well like at least 75%-99% of your needs are taken care of for pro work.

I need that focus bracketing for Macro. This will turn my Macro game up to 9000! (And no the flippy screen isn't a problem, actually it's perfect because you use REMOTE SHOOTING when on a Tripod. If you're on a Tripod and still hitting the button, you're doing it wrong. Leaving the LCD off by default is perfect, but if I really really need it if the wi-fi bugs out or something then I can still flip it down and take a peek.) Really as far as I'm concerned the flip down screen is the most intuitive way to turn the rear LCD on and off. Every other camera you have to fidget with a button and flip through half a dozen view modes to turn the LCD off. Here, it's off by default, and only turns on when you know you want it. Perfect.

Kai, I didn't know you left DR or whatever they were called. I subbed to this channel. Thx for making and uploading here! Have you ever done "lenses for natural photography" on this channel? If you want to come to northern Sweden and shot Borealis, call me ;-)

It looks a interesting piece of kit, i was waiting to get one but instead got a used 🔴Q. Happy with my choice, cheaper too.

Been really debating selling my A7iii kit because I don't need all of the features. I also am getting sick of sitting behind my computer after shooting hundreds of photos. I am hoping this is the system that will fill that void. Considering I still shoot film and rangefinder frequently I feel I have more fun when I shoot using my film cameras these days.

Sounds like you've already decided. How are those Blue Flames going these days?

I had an X-Pro2 on loan for a while. I really loved the whole experience of shooting with it. I ended up with a lot of shots that were different (and better) than what I get with DSLR style cameras. It's hard to explain until you use it. However I really hated the combo ISO/shutter control. I read an interview with the designer of the camera where he stated that the design is intentional. That most street photogs don't change settings a lot. I disagree. I have been shooting for years and part of the enjoyment is intuitively adjusting the exposure triangle to get the right DOF, and illumination to capture the shot. I have an X-T3 and that camera is always in full manual. I get mad when I accidentally put one of the controls into auto! I know that I can map ISO and shutter to the front and rear thumb wheels. But I'd rather use a dial similar to my X-T3. Will have to check it out in person.

So... will you be getting a Fuji?

Did you shoot anything in low light? What did you think? and what's the Auto Focus like in low light? Does this Multi exposure work on Raw or Jpegs only?

-6 EV AF (i.e. 1/30th the light levels of the comparator - not sure if they were comparing against the X-T3 or the X-Pro2) is one of the touted new capacities

Call me crazy but I would much prefer this camera with no LCD screen at all like the Leica MD (but keeping the new little screen on the back) and with a straight L shape angle on its right side like the X100f. I love my XPro2 but this design going lower towards the right is something that really bothers me a lot. Other than that, no need to change this camera design anymore. Correct me if I’m wrong but I feel that Fuji is attempting to touch a niche market (and I think they should) however, they are doing it in a subtle, shy and almost afraid way. I believe they would be much more innovative if they make the changes I suggest in my previous comment. I also think the customers would appreciate even more the X-Pro3. Just keep the production and the price of the X-Pro2 for those who really need or want the LCD and offer a new and really innovative, challenging, desired and special X-Pro 3 for the, let’s say, different level photographers. The way they are doing now will scare the average photographers and make the more experienced ones escheptical .
