I really like the fact that Fuji has the balls to bring out a camera that’s not like most other cameras. It‘s definitely not meant for everyone, and it has to be different from the X-T3 - and it is. If you don‘t like - no problem, there are tons of other cameras out there - the XPro3 is just not meant for you. Like Chris pointed out, just go with the X-T3. But if you like the different approach, hey, this is a brilliant camera. I‘m a Leica shooter, and I think it’s quite good that at least one other brand has the guts to produce a special camera that is not meant to please everyone.

"Titanium trinket" or not, I love mine. If I spent a lot of time on tripods or needed 4 more function buttons, I'd have gotten the X-T3. That is a more practical camera, but the X-Pro3's left-side hybrid viewfinder is gorgeous and simply improves my shooting experience. It's placed correctly to allow my big "gaijin" nose to stay out of the way. It has an myriad of easily switchable and tunable options to allow me to setup what I'm seeing for the lens and scenario I'm shooting. And its' hidden LCD amuses me. It is a constant reminder that there're passionate designers in Japan who are ready willing and able to fight and win arguments with their pointy-haired bosses to make products for me that they believe in. First, the OVF is really like an old rf film camera . From experience : it is nice to see outside the frame to compose or anticipate something coming into but with a tele the area becomes just too small. I must point out that we currently have a much wider choice of focals and a lot more cropping possibilities than in the old 35 film days but if you shoot mostly a 23 and/or maybe a 35 , you must try this. Second, the viefinder being on the left, if you are a left eye shooter, your nose does not interfeer with the screen and you have room to reach the joystick. This is clearly a specialty and retro approach that could be a dream come true to some and while not for me , i salute this as a rare tool providing a different experience . This would have been a risky move for Fuji if they did not also have the XT-3 but they do.

5:48 Yep, this is the crucial point. I was hoping to switch to Fuji for this camera, but they just can't stop with the gimmicks. The pull-to-lift iso dial made sense on film cameras, not here. And now, gimping the screen (this hits video shooters, people who use the screen to maintain eye contact with models, and those who find a screen quicker for reaction shots than raising for the ovf) screw a bunch of people for no good reason. Remember, the x-pro user base is an uneasy alliance between working pros, street shooters, fashion photographers, film nostalgia types, minimalists, and actual hipsters. This decision is for the last three at the expense of the others.

This whole video is a testimony to Fujifilm’s video colours. This is you guys’ best looking video to date. I have the GH5 and shoot with it every day, like you, but I really don’t like the out of camera colours. A lot of work washing away that Pana cast. This here is just pure gorgeous. Whenever Fujifilm is dropping their first X camera with no time limit, I’m probably there first in line.. And by the way, I can see this flip out screen being killer and stealthy for waist level street photography. Not sure why you didn’t emphasise that in the video.

@bardofhighrenown2 жыл бұрын
This is the first time I've watched a review that I regretted buying my X-T3. I wish I had gotten an X-Pro3 now. Purely because of how I shoot. I rarely use the LCD on my camera except to change settings at home and I have never shot video and I don't really anticipate that changing. I like the minimalism of the X-Pro 3 and how it attempts to force you out of menus and information overload and puts on the emphasis on taking pictures. I also really like the way it looks. I think the OVF is probably a novelty, but I can also see how having that option could be creatively motivating for some people.
@1fareast145 жыл бұрын
15:37 I almost agree with the second interpretation, but I found the ovf to be remarkable after just a minute with the x-pro2. On all the other points, yes. This camera line is slowly being turned into a talisman for a narrow group (will they even generate enough sales?). However, this group would be better served by an old Leica for less money. It's a shame. If this camera had IBIS, the two-stage ovf, a d-pad, a proper tilt screen of some kind, and the x-t3 video capabilities, I'd sell my other camera gear and buy this on day one for full price.

Seems to have everything that I want in a rangefinder style digital and doesn’t have the ridiculous Leica prices. I love Leica and I understand the pricing, but it’s still expensive as hell. This Fuji seems the best of all worlds. I’m a film shooter who saw the dawn of the digital camera age. Maybe it’s just old habits but I shoot digital cameras like film. It just doesn’t fully translate. This camera seems to get back to it and is a digital camera made for those who shoot film. I absolutely love that “film” type simulation on the back, that’s a great throwback to the old film cameras that actually had that holder for the film box tab

Well, thank you for bringing up this issue. So, what did we gain by Fuji removing the duel magnification that made more lenses useable? Hum. Crickets. They degraded the OVF from the X-Pro2. Okay, how many people actually use the OVF? Not many since I haven't heard many complaints about this move backward we've actually told is somehow better. i have a Pro3 and lobe it but that doesn't mean I'll overlook the degrading of the OVF. This new one is terrible. I know. I had a Pro2. Did they do this to reduce production cost? Maybe reduce processor time? Maybe both. It also does not return the framing lines when one takes the fingure off the shutter release. LIKE ALL PRIOR OVF CAMERAS LIKE ALL THE X1OO'S AND Pro1-2's. What's up with that? Let's talk and while we're at it, let's do it honestly. The "new" OVF" is a degraded bomb. If I'm missing something please let me know.

Let's think about the branding behind this camera: "A hidden LCD screen will force me to be a better photographer". Sure, having a hidden LCD screen might be a fun novelty for a few weeks, but I predict that pulling down the viewfinder constantly (because you're going to want to use it eventually LOL) is going to get old and very annoying after the novelty wears off. Plus, the ISO dial on the X-Pro series is a PITA. I have owned many Fuji camera bodies and, by far, the X-T3 is my favorite. All the buttons and dials are in the right place and are easy to change on the fly. I also currently own a X-Pro2, which is a fine camera. I would never in a million years, upgrade to the X-Pro3 because of it's ridiculous LCD screen. If I wanted that "film" experience I can simply cover up the LCD screen on my X-Pro2. I'll say this: if you are constantly chimping and look with glee to a camera that will somehow force you to not chimp -- in the hopes that you'll become a better photographer, then you might want to think about that a little bit... a hidden LCD screen is not going to make you a better photographer. Learning the basics of photography (ISO, aperture, shutter speed) and the science behind color and composition, on the other hand, absolutely WILL make you a better photographer.

I like the direction they're going with the xpro line. To piggy back off your comment about it being a hard sell because "what doesn't the XT3 have that this does"... Fuji needs to do more to differentiate between the xt and the xpro series. The screen could certainly get obnoxious if you wanted to use it, but I do think this is a good first step when we think about the need to create unique cameras. For 1,800 USD new (regular matte black finish), I'd think it's worth picking up

Hey, what gives, I gave Fuji reps my opinions and they ignored them. :) As an X-Pro2 owner, I won't be upgrading. In fact, after 3 years of trying to like the 2, I'm selling it. For me, Fuji's concentration on retro styling rather than function is a pain. It looks like Fujifilm has retained most of what bothers me about the 2 and doubled down on the retro. Though I occasionally pull out one of my old film cameras and shoot a roll of B&W Delta or colour Velvia -- I've been in the photography biz for 40-years -- I don't miss film and I don't miss fiddling with knobs to, say, change ISO. I find it very striking that in all the reviews I watch, and read of the X-Pro cameras, nobody has a problem with the combined ISO/Shutter knob. Instead they all focus on the new screen arrangement, and the lack of videographer ports. I get that the X-Pro line is a kind of coveted class of cameras. They are somewhere between a Lexus and a Leica. I've used the X-Pro2 and there is something about shooting with that camera that I found very compelling. But I nearly always shoot in manual. And I find the controls distracting and fiddly. You can of course map the ISO and shutter functions to other controls. Fuji is known for the degree of customization available on their products. I used the thumbwheels for IOS and shutter control. But I had to keep reminding myself which was ISO and which shutter. The X-T3 has a nice way of having both on distinct knobs. Gosh, I guess I'll just hold my breath until X-Pro4.

Thanks for the detailed and helpful video. I purchase the XT3 which I will admit is a very capable camera and more reasonably priced than the Xpro 3. I wanted a flip screen for predominantly waist level street shots. Nontheless, I have had a tough time with the XT3 flip screen. It is not easy to flip out quickly and is essentially a 2 stage pull out for waist level landscape views and is also obstructed by the central eye piece. I was initially a little dubious about the novel screen on the X Pro 3, but honestly it seems so much easier to pull out for street shots and the build quality seems excellent. The screen mechanism on the XT3 seems to have come from an inferior camera compared to the rest of its build. I think it will be the X pro 3 for me ...and in black!

Great video! Specially the intro hahahahahah It is nice that you filmed everything with the xpro3, I found that I like a lot more the image quality that you make with the gh5/gh5s. The crispness, the colors, your gh5 footage looks much better to me. The sensor size war and the hate that some are trying to create is absolute nonsense. Don't get me wrong, the photos looked beautiful, and that classic negative is fire! 🔥🔥🔥 Also, in my humble opinion, instead of the hybrid viewfinder which increases thee cost of the camera, they should have put ibis.

Excellent video. I personally think they took the design a little too far with the pure shooting experience, but some people absolutely want that and will pay extra for it. But previous X-Pro models had wider appeal and this one seems to alienate itself into a more niche market.

What is up with the video quality at 13:40? It looks soft to me and stands out from the rest, the motion looks a little odd too.

Peter Kent Maybe KZbin bandwidth issues? It looks perfectly fine to me. 🤷♂️

Nice music choice. That intro was great :). I can see this camera working for people who really enjoy the process. I do as well, but I also enjoy low prices and efficiency. Not my camera, but it will have a market.

I bet they won't do it so they don't cannibalize Xpro3 sales...

@@alozor13 Fuji will do it. Fuji is not Canon.

There is video on the Facebook X-Pro User site clearly demonstrating DPReview is inaccurate in reporting the 23mm frame lines disappear at infinity. You guys should correct that with a graphic on the video.

(At present) I'm prepared to pay more for Fuji bodies (and lenses) that are Made in Japan. I believe the build quality there is superior to elsewhere. The X-Pro3's 'rival', the XT-3, is made in China, which may help to explain 'the same specs at cheaper cost' argument (plus better video performance), as well as issues about build quality I've been hearing.

Forget about customizations, all you need is some controls to adjust the aperture, shutter speed and maybe ISO if you insist. That's it.

Chris you may not be a fan but in my opinion you produced some of your strongest test shots on this camera. And that's what I miss about my Fuji.
