I got an X-H1 back before the X-T4 was released, and recently purchased a second one. I love the ergonomics and the IBIS. I'd love better battery life and better autofocus.
@baxtermarrison53614 жыл бұрын
For me, the X-H1, in fact I have slightly more than one, and with the battery grip. The ergonomics, the stabilisation and the stronger lens mount were the deciding factors. The Ibis means I get the same sort of low light stability from my primes that I previously got with just the stabilised zooms. Handy to have when you need it.
@matthewstorerphotography4 жыл бұрын
100% agree well said!
@Bolton1154 жыл бұрын
Still sticking with the X-H1. I don't shoot much video and what I do shoot looks just fine in 4K 200Mbps. More than adequate for cats and kiddos.. meanwhile, the IBIS makes vintage glass shine and that softly damped shutter is a delight. Also, I sent one of my H1s in for service and had them tighten up the shutter release button-recommend! Really makes the half press/full press different and more usable. Regarding build quality, the H1 is Made in Japan, whereas the X-T3 is an Exacti contract build out of elsewhere. That's not a bad thing-the T3 is built just fine but, when you compare side by side there is something about the real Japanese made models that's hard to describe. Maybe like a real German built Leica versus a Panasonic made one? Worth mentioning also is the steel struts inside the H1's magnesium alloy frame that reinforce the lens mount so long MKS cinema lenses won't flex it. The X-T4 would be great if I didn't have the H1 but since I do, the T4's bigger battery and faster video/AF aren't really two grand worth of upgrade when both models have IBIS. Keep your X-H1 and buy more lenses. :-)

The X T3 is a better all around camera, the specs tell you that. No mention that to properly function all of it's features, the X H1 requires the battery pack that brings cost and weight right of the X H1 way up. There are more than enough Fuji lenses with OIS to make the X T3 simply a better choice. Both will get the job done, but the superb auto focus of the X T3 and the faster sensor, will give you an edge when shooting pro work. You can buy a metal L plate that will add grip o the X T3 if it's an issue for around $35.

Yeah I get this, this is just our personal opioion also. I am really glad that you love the X-T3 its a superb camera and deserves the love it gets. ;)

@@matthewstorerphotography The X-T3 requires an easily lost dongle for headphone output, which also takes up the USB port so it can't be charged while, you know, using the camera in its maximal battery consumption mode.. Does the T3 have the headphone jack in its optional grip like the H1? If you have to put a grip on the T3 to make it the same size as the H1, then wouldn't it make sense to compare it to a gripped H1-which gives you two extra batteries and a headphone jack? I'm trying to think like a video shooter where battery life, stability, and audio monitoring are very important.

you're a legend Matthew - I love your stuff! I agree - I have two X-H1's and just love them. I'm on a travel trip at the moment in Siem Reap. Just came from ten days in China and 2 weeks in Vietnam. I had the same lenses last year (90mm on one body 16-55 on the other). The only difference I swapped out the X-T2's for two H-1's. Man - they are a game changer. I'm carving up the images much more than ever before. That beautiful beefy grip, the low light stabilisation in dark markets and temples. Best thing I ever did was to get the H-1's. So... I'm trying a borrowed XT3 and I don't like it nearly as much as my XH1 that I own. I don't like the too-small-grip on the XT3. I don't like the position of the AF-On button on the XT3. I don't feel it's that much faster AF. I don't think it's that much higher quality in low light compared to the XH1. I shoot a lot of sports in poorly lit gyms, mostly High School sports for local newspapers. The XT3 doesn't feel any better in any aspect and in some (like the ergonomics) it's WAY less comfortable to carry/hold/AF because of the grip and button placement. I have recently shot the XH1 in the same gym I just used the XT3 in last night. I can't tell much difference between jpegs shot on either camera during recent games. Both games shot at 1/500 f2.8 (with 16-55 and 50-140) available light at ISO3200. There's not much to choose between either camera in this light. So not only am I sticking with my XH1 but i might wait to see what Fuji releases soon (an XT4 is rumored). Unless the XT4 has a bigger grip and better button placement I might buy a second XH1... and since they are now a real bargain used, I could even buy a good used XH1 for probably half the cost of a new Xt3 anyway! I enjoyed the video. I just found your channel doing a search for Fuji videos. I've followed you and I look forward to your videos.- DK

Interesting Matt. I can see why you came to the conclusion on the XH1, but answer this. If you had the 16 80 lens that has OIS would you go for the Xt3 or even have two xt3 bodies ? I have shot as low as 1/8 th second on 16 80 lens but probably more realistically 1/15 th will get you a consistently sharp image. I think the XT4 may be the answer, but it is not feasible to purchase every new model released particularly if you are a Professional and need to get some sort of monetary reward for outlaying some serious dollars.

@@matthewstorerphotography Thanks for the reply Matthew. I have an X-T2 at the moment which I bought about 3 months before the X-T3 was announced. Fuji is announcing three new products in February and I think one of them is the X-H2 and not an X-T4. If it turns out that the X-H2 or X-T4 is just an X-H1 with the same sensor etc as the T3 then I will upgrade my X-T2 to the X-H1 as I have the 16-55mm F2.8 and some legacy Yashica prime lenses and IBIS would be good for all of those. The new camera will have to offer significant improvements to tempt me over the X-H1 and X-T3 to persuade me to buy into it at £1750 - £2000 body only.

Thanks so much for the Video Matthew I enjoyed your comparison of the two bodies. It does really come down to the user and what the it is used for mostly. I myself do more photography than video. I have recently switched from the Sony A7ii full frame. I have a Nikon Full frame and thought that I do not need two cameras that are Full Frame. I have the X-H1 and have loved every moment that I have spent shooting with it. I did a family photoshoot just last month, my first with it. I must add although I had some form of issue with the camera giving an error message telling me to switch off the camera and switch it back on. What drew me back from the X-T4 is the articulating screen. When used with a full SmallRig cage, it is useless plus gets in the way of my cabling. In addition it has no headphone jack. It uses the USB C port for headphone signal.

Ahhh yeah I can totally understand that from a video aspect!

Excellent comparo.I'd like to get an XH-1 to compliment my X-T2 .. Btw .. your 18-135mm analogy was spot on. I just got an X-T2 couple weeks ago and was yammering on as to what lens to buy. So, between your video and my photographer buddy whacking me over the head telling me to just get some damn glass and get to shooting.... I've been taking pictures since I was 10 years old. but only recently decided to start taking it bit more seriously. The 18-135mm is worth its wieght in gold. Not the sharpest tool in the shed but damn dude, talk about one lens to rule them all ? I've been putting the lens through it paces, Overcast, direct sunlight, Indoors, I'll get a Tripod to try some low light bits.. Over all the 18-135 is like having 3 lenses in one. Or at least two. I can't understand why FujiFilm cameras aren't more expensive by at least %35. They destroy pretty much any other APS-C out there and are even in the running with a few Full Frame Cameras. The fit and finish is unrivaled. Thanks.

HAHAHA please don't go out there telling everyone that Fujifilm prices should be higher!! haha But I totally understand where you are coming from. The price point they are marketing their cameras with the CRAZY features that are packed into them. Which some cameras released in 2019 didnt have already a year after the X-T3 was released! But I must agree with regards to the 18-135mm very underrated lens and does an ok job, but many jobs well...

Hopefully, the rumours about the upcoming X-T4 having IBIS will come true. A larger Battery would also be welcome!

I bought the X-H1 over the X-T3 because of IBIS, better feeling grip in my hand, shutter and value for money as I got a great deal on the X-H1.

Perfect. Glad to hear you got a great deal

Hi Matthew! Love your reviews! I'm a hobbyist and relatively new convert to Fujifilm. I am also fortunate enough to have a 50mm f1.2 in my lens kit. I absolutely love this lens, but find it really slow to focus on moving subjects and I would really want to use it more. I'm torn between the X-H1 and X-T3, and am leaning towards the X-T3 for it's faster AF. I'm just worried that the AF difference isn't that much, may. ask for your advice?
@matthewstorerphotography4 жыл бұрын
Hello Michael thanks so much for the kind words! I have never used the combo before but I have read numerous times that the AF performance in the X-T3 does help old slower lenses such as the 56mm 1.2. I own both bodies and I would suggest the xt3 if AF is a priority :)
@Bolton1154 жыл бұрын
@@matthewstorerphotography The 56 f1.2 is a slow focusing lens. The H1 wakes it up really nicely-to the point of maxing it out. The T3 might be a little more accurate because it is newer, but it probably won't be any faster. Great lens tho! Edit: The T3 will be faster than the H1, to varying degrees, on more modern Fuji glass. How much faster, and if you need that speed, is up to you to decide.

Excellent video! Question: how's eye af in the H1? I keep reading the T3 hits it better (but not as good as Sony).
@matthewstorerphotography4 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much! The X-H1 doesn't have eye AF because it's the older sensor compared to the X-T3. But agree the Sony has mastered this with the accurate eye AF

@@matthewstorerphotography The X-H1 can track either left or right eye, or just faces. It's in the menu: AF>FACE/EYE DETECTION SETTING>FACE ON/EYE OFF or FACE ON/EYE AUTO and you can choose left or right eye. I haven't used it much or really spent too much time in AF setting menu.. I suspect a lot of others haven't either and that might be why they think the H1 is slow to AF. Fuji's face/eye detect isn't as good as Sony's. But it's still pretty good.

What about x-t3 but with a lens with iOS?
@matthewstorerphotography4 жыл бұрын
It's so much better espically the XF 16-80mm

That's the lens I was thinking about. Thanks 👍

Small 'b' = bits, big 'B' = Bytes. The data rates are in bits per second not bytes. 400 Mega bits per second not 400 Mega Bytes per second.

Sorry, But I would prefer the XT-3 , better performance in all parameters. most of Fuji lessens has IOS as well the fact that the XT-3 I'm using constantly with battery grip that solve both issues of battarie life and has excellent ergonomics
@matthewstorerphotography4 жыл бұрын
Yeah totally get that for sure, I mean once the X-T4 comes out it will wipe away the X-H1 completely pretty much! Just a great price pointed camera

in several condition, XH1 IBIS becomes game changer. Especially when we're shooting portrait with Non-Ois lense like Xf 90mm f2.0 in very low light condition or driving on off road car.
