Always amazed at how clearly you cover camera reviews. I have now had my X-T4 for just over a week after years of shooting with Fuji and it immediately was clear to me that this is not an X-T3s as some have nick-named it but there are performance details in this new body that have surprised me. I bought it for the Ibis, battery and Classic Neg. what stands out to me is the colour rendition is far better than the T3. The dynamic range and sharpness I am achieving has made me so happy I purchased this beauty. I have been using the 16-80 since it was released on the T3 and was quite happy with it’s performance but now it has demonstrated what a fine lens this is on the T4. The already fast autofocus has got even faster and the focus acquisition is much improved. No this isn’t an X-T3s this is truly a next generation camera. Keep up the superb reviews.

Thanks for the kind words. I'm not sure if you've exhausted the capabilities of the P900, but if you're looking for better low light performance, the larger sensor and the ability to use faster (meaning larger aperture) lenses would make the X-T4 an improvement.

First, thank you for your analysis and review of the Fuji XT-4. Truly excellent. You mentioned that you edited your RAW shots in Lightroom (about 3:45 into this video). I had read elsewhere that Adobe had not accommodated Fuji’s RAW coding in its products. Capture One was an intermediate step in editing the Fuji file to prepare it for loading it into Photoshop/Lightroom environment and wasn’t sure about Premier either. Was I incorrect in my understanding? I’d be extremely relieved if Fuji files can be read directly by Adobe. Keep up the good work. I’m a new subscriber! Jim

Great review/tutorial as always Maarten, glad to see that you and family are doing fine and staying healthy. This camera is very tempting (very), since I only shoot stills I really like the feature that can be set to stills or video and just have a dedicated menu for that, I prefer the tilt screen, but….., it is what it is and to be honest, I don’t believe that this camera will give me much better image quality than my X-T2 (I'm not that good LOL). Not sure which A6x you're using. Certainly the recent releases (A6100, A6600) have superior autofocus, both for tracking and for face/eye detection and animal detection. If those are important to you, stick with Sony. However, beyond those specifics, Fujifilm's autofocus is fast and accurate with wide scene coverage and provides some operational flexibility in area selection (like a joystick) not offered by Sony.

Well it might be a good camera but you have convinced me I definitely do not need a whole lot more confusing options, which I will never use. I am pretty sure most XT4 owners will never use 75% of these settings. Still waiting for a simplified STILL camera at a reasonable price. Camera manufacturers please take note.

What? Why impose your limited view on others? Why assume that we would only use 25% -= but please reply with the list of the 75% that you don't find useful. However, many of these are one-time adjustments, made to customize the camera to your preferences. They doubtless all come as the result of Fujifilm's interactions with photographers. So I'm guessing the "AUTO" minimum shutter speed still ignores stablisation even though the X-T4 now has IBIS? Is the fastest miniumum shutter speed still limited to 1/500 (for no good reason as far as I cal tell!)?
@MaartenHeilbron4 жыл бұрын
Why this conclusion? The fastest minimum would not require stabilization at all. What are you trying to accomplish?
@MrJed_s4 жыл бұрын
@@MaartenHeilbron sorry, these are two separate concerns but both impediments to my usage of the minimum shutter speed feature. If I'm shooting a static subject in low light, why couldn't "AUTO" min shutter speed offer up a shutter speed that prevents blur while offering the least noise? My X-T20 (and I'm guessing this X-T4 too) will just offer up the "reciprocal rule", completely disregarding the slower speeds (and less noisy images) that are achievable due to stabilisation. So basically I'm forced to set this manually to get the lowest noise possible. I can't understand why I seem to be the only one complaining about this either!
@MaartenHeilbron4 жыл бұрын
@@MrJed_s Isn't that exactly what the AUTO setting does? The trouble is that auto ISO never alerts you to the fact that you're now outside its capability and it's reducing the shutter speed too far.
@MrJed_s4 жыл бұрын
@@MaartenHeilbron the AUTO setting (on my X-T20, and as far as I can glean from the X-T4 online documentation it's the same) ignores stabilisation. So while I could be getting sharp results at 1/4 at 18mm on my 18-135, AUTO is going to give me 1/30. So I'd have to set a manual shutter speed or just live with the extra noise. Since the camera seems to know which lens is attached, and can tell when OIS is enabled/disabled, it doesn't seem like a technical limitation, just something they never got around to implementing? Not surprising given that I really haven't found anyone that shares my views that this is a usability issue and would simplify things greatly. I do share your view that we should be alerted when the shutter speed slows below the "allowable" range (much like it does when the shutter hits its max). Or better yet, the camera could choose not to prioritise exposure over the shutter speed you've explicitly set as the minimum!
@MaartenHeilbron4 жыл бұрын
@@MrJed_s right. Thanks for commenting. I'll make sure to think about this issue for upcoming reviews - although it's admittedly a bit of an edge case. I will say that Fujifilm's AutoISO has become rather dated - have you seen what Sony is doing, so you can prioritize quality or speed? And Fujifilm doesn't allow the camera's max ISO as an Auto setting.

Glad to see you've regained your freedom. Certainly your remarks do not apply to video, where this camera sets a standard with a number of capabilities that the competition does not meet. Am I completely crazy or does the dynamic range adjustment mean that the camera increases the ISO in areas where the image doesn't have enough range, is too dark?
@MaartenHeilbron4 жыл бұрын
I suppose that's one way to interpret it. Typically the dynamic range adjustment lowers the contrast so that dark areas aren't so dark and bright areas aren't as bright. This is typically done in processing, but then again, so is ISO, which is generally applied to the entire output of the sensor.
@agile-j4d4 жыл бұрын
@@MaartenHeilbron So this doesn't give you more actual range, it just adjusts the image for you? I suppose that make sense. How could it since that would otherwise have to come from mechanical parts in the lens giving more light. Thanks. Good channel.

As clear as an unmuddied stream, as clear as an azure sky in deepest summer---that's a Martin Heilbron review. Thanks so much. I'm really looking forward to getting the X-T4--B&H still insists shipping is on schedule: April 30th. I purchased mine the first five hours it was announced...but, alas, really wanted an X-H2. So, two items: are you going to do a separate video review?!? I'd love that. Second, I was remiss on not thanking you for such a great survey of Nikon lenses for the Z6/7. I only wish I could take advantage of them. But shooting only video, and that fully manual results in the focus by wire of the new lenses being...useless. But the older Nikon lenses ain't too shabby and with few exceptions they have decent MF rings. Finally, thanks for mentioning the rubber eye-cup. I was wondering if the eye cup of the X-H1/X-T3 would fit on the X-T4. Since I almost never use the LCD the Gorilla eye cup doesn't present a problem to my shooting style. My big curiosity, something NO ONE has mentioned in the reviews I've seen, is how is the IBIS with non-electronic third party lenses??? enquiring minds want to know---cause that's how I prefer shooting much of the time. I feel as you; very grateful for being in my present situation. I know so many are suffering---more from the outrageous actions of governments than from the virus----but being at home has been nothing but a joy for me. So very, very thankful to God---for everything. Even more thankful if this scourge were lifted and the personal dignities of free movement and work were restored to us.

Thanks for the wishes, I too am waiting (somewhat impatiently) for the return of what we previously accepted as normal.

@@MaartenHeilbron well, send me your address on facebook messenger---or my personal email and I'll be happy to send you the lens and the proper adapter to test the IBIS with an 85 or 100mm Canon FD. Or, no bother. If B&H is on point I should have an XT4 soon (May 2nd??), and I'll just do a review of the IBIS for 3rd party lenses myself. I've had a LOT of experience shooting 3rd party lenses on the X-H1---I really loved shooting that camera, but the IBIS was somewhat less than successful. It was workable, but very, very limiting. So, I think I have a pretty good perspective to make the needed comparison that I'm sure would be of interest to X-H1 shooters who might consider the XT4----rather than wait for the LONG hoped for X-H2. That said, I'm sure the X-T4 is a wonderful camera, but the form factor will, I'm sure, fall short of the great form factor of the X-H1---it's just among the best ever---IMO.

While I would agree that the full frame sensors in those cameras would be better for stills, there is a cost associated with that, both for the body and the lenses. However, for video (after all even 4K video is only 3840x2160 pixels) the larger sensor isn't as much of an advantage - but the HEVC codec, 400 bits data rate, F-Log and 10 bit 4:2:2 are.
@patrick.7714 жыл бұрын
@@MaartenHeilbron yes. But the very good Nikon F4 lenses, the 50mm and the (also very good) Tamrons for the Sony are in similar price ranges. If you don't need fast lenses (landscape) full frame is not that expensive. The kit-package is cheaper than the X-T4 kit (here in Europe). A Z6 with the 24-70, 50 and 14-30 is the same price as the equivalent Fuji kit. Weight also similar. Cashbacks not included. Curious how X-T4 price will envolve.
