Great video as always! The video spec bump seems odd at first glance and a bit limited by the higher megapixel sensor, but good to know it didn't overheat in 4k25p. Plus, IBIS helps overall quality of output. I had the X100F and enjoyed it until selling to get something more general purpose. This version does make it feel a decent amount more versatile.

As much as I enjoy your videos I love the fact that you have the written review on your website too! Somewhat prefer in fact only in that it is a fast read. As for the camera: if the V was something you were still looking for this one is a strong upgrade with IBIS as the main selling feature and like many cameras some added video tools. The added resolution of the sensor a plus for photography. Very tempting if not intended for a ‘floating head of doom’ type use! $2160 here in Canada- add another $500+ for a limited edition though.

Great overview, Gordon. The 40mp sensor has another advantage -- similar to the Leica Q2 -- which is the ability to crop in-camera to stretch out the potential focal lengths albeit sacrificing megapixels in the resulting images. Combining this with the TC add-on lens extends the capability of the camera so that it can give you up to 100mm shots (of 10mp size). I've heard that Fujifilm includes some menu options to facilitate the cropping like the Q2. It would be great if you can explore the potential of this cropping feature in a future video.
@cameralabs8 ай бұрын
Yes definitely more latitude for cropping. I'll try out the digital teleconverter in my follow up
@tappersreviews46778 ай бұрын
Yep, it will be interesting to see how well the crop mode works. I think 50mm equiv crop will be useful since you get about 19 - 20 mp. Sure we can just crop in post, but composing in crop is nice.
@JimIBobIJones8 ай бұрын
In theory, but the pixel density is significantly more on the 40mp APSC v.s. Full frame on the Leica. This means that you only have so much latitude for cropping before noise becomes obvious and problematic. IMHO 40mp on APSC is pushing the scope of what is desirable for the form factor. Seeing how poorly indoor photos turn out from the X100v is what made me go for a Canon g1X instead.

4:30 I never used the OVF on any X100 I owned either. I didn't see the point, since I can see the live exposure when using the EVF. Yes, I understand some people just like to be able to see the 'real world' and want to use the OVF, but to me it's a bit pointless. Getting the exposure the closest to what I want in-camera is the most important thing to me (and the framing I see in the EVF is what I get on the final image also, so no looking for framing lines). To me the OVF is more of a gimmick than something that's really needed. It's only needed as a personal preference, nothing more. A good EVF is much more useful/practical overall. And yes, as you mentioned the camera would be made less complex without adding the OVF option (and probably less expensive as you mentioned). To me the OVF is all cons and no pros. I doubt they'll want to bother with an EVF only version if they do keep an OVF available. I'd say keep the OVF as an option on the X-Pro line and forget it/remove it on the X100 line.

A little on the pricey side for something really only suitable for taking casual snaps. The 40mp resolution is just another marketing gimmick and won’t magically enable the output from this to get anywhere close to the image quality of modern mirrorless F.F gear at a similar price point, especially in more difficult light, using higher ISO’s. If compact size is the priority there’s plenty of much cheaper crop sensor options that will do the job just as well - but hey, if people want to throw their money away 😊

Oh wow, THANK YOU so much for showing the actual difference between 26mp and 40mp. Good to know there is an actual difference. I've seen some claims there wasn't much difference really, but the 40mp image looks very noticeably clearer and more detailed in your comparison at 8:29.

Hi, I've recently become reunited with my old Fujifilm X10 but forgot that it doesn't have a double-exposure capability (which my F770EXR does!) - modern in-camera multiple exposure features are a lot more sophisticated nowadays though, with more overlay frames and choices of compositing modes and I think having a well developed multiple exposure compositing feature in-camera is very much the mark of a camera aimed at creativity and artistry (so not Sony then!) - does this new X100IIIIX have a good suite of in-camera multiple exposure offerings?

Almost 2000£ in UK for x100vi - this camera is over-hyped… i had v version and i was hopping that fuji will add at least 28mm( full frame eq) and then pair it with 40MP so you could crop it to 35mm ,50mm, 70mm - but they decided to keep 35mm as standard. Maybe in some time i will give it a try again but for now Ricoh is my choice.- I will give a fuji 👏🏼for great timeless design.

I think a comparison between this and plausible alternatives would be intere4sting. I have an OM-D E-M1x. Good camera, but not the lightest.. I have a G 9. Good camera, lighter than the Olympus, but still not small. For me, this would be a contender for use when I walk around, for serious but not serious photography. This could be a contender, compatibility with my other cameras doesn't matter, thouhg I might have some batteries for this, the battery model number looks familiar. For me, if this is a contender, what else is there? How do they stack up against smaller mirrorless ILCs? A separate matter, how does X-Trans stack up against other smaller mirrorless cameras, those that have sensor-shift high resolution. One of the advantages I have seen touted for those is improved colour rendition, as is claimed for X-Trans (and Foveon.) 40 megapixels in a single sensor readout is one advantage here,

Wish they literally fixed most important problem with v. The battery(i would have happily accepted slightly thicker body. 150-200 photos is nothing. Also the uhs1 sd, old ass lcd, no 3.5mm (so carry adapter which vanishes any Benoit of the size.) also to lesser extent but the same buffer & 40mp 88mb raw's & slow ass uhs1 all make the occasional burst shooting almost impossible.
