I absolutely love, love, LOVE my X100F, possibly even more so in 2023 than ever before. I bought mine in January 2020 as a travel camera (which worked out great!) and finally got to use it for that purpose in 2022. My Canon R5 is too big and heavy to carry around on holiday, but the X100F is simply perfect. I went to NZ for 4 weeks and the Fuji was my camera of choice, the R5 stayed at home. Similar to you Jo I use jpeg, although I do shoot RAW at the same time in case I want to tweak anything aftwards (I haven't done this yet however). One thing I do to speed things up (and don't all shout at me for this) is that I often shoot fully Auto with this camera (influenced by a tip from Kevin Mullins). Why? It's my travel camera, and as Gorden summed it up at the end I don't want to faffing with settings and missing the moment. This camera produces great images in Auto, but becasue it has dials it is super quick and easy to take control of any setting without having to take the camera away from your eye. It's not perfect, it has it's quirks, but it's a great little camera that makes me smile every time I pick it up, and that is essential for a camera we use for personal projects, not for work. The R5 is my workhorse that earns the money, the Fuji is my personal camera that captures the personal moments of my life. My Fuji is my favourite camera I own purely based on how it makes me feel and the ease of using it in everyday life.

I bought the x100f as my first camera (not counting phone) around Nov 2018, well after watching your review. It was fun, very intuitive, great photo out of camera and it still is! It was the best companion for my XPro2, same form factor, really durable. Now, August 2023 I'm ready to let it go (been collecting dust since 2022)...

So glad I picked up my x100F during the lockdown in 2020. Had no idea it was going to get crazy popular. I was primarily a Sony shooter and took me a bit of time to adapt to it but those film sims on the XTRANS 3 sensor are so good. Close to a film camera experience.

The video is very helpful as I have just purchased a used x100F but I could never find a silver one for less than $1200 unless. I have no idea who or where you are seeing them sell for $700 but I have not seen that price anywhere except from scammers. I bought one that is used from Japan with a number of filters, a case and the regular included stuff with the original box and 4500 shutter count for $1300 shipped. I'm happy you listed what to check for as I am really hoping this is as good as it looks. Going to Paris in April and want to bring this with me. Thanks again for all the great info on the camera and if yo see one for sale at $700 you should buy and resell it. 🙂

Thank you for your comment and your caveats. I agree. I bought my X100V nearly three years ago, and I use the camera with the same enjoyment in usage and results as back then. It does what I expect it to do at the level I've learned to "squeeze" out of it. You made an interesting remark, coming down to, in essence: "The camera hasn't changed, but I changed my expectations, based on what newer cameras can do." Looking at my results from years back and from today, I find that these newer specs might indeed help me, for sure ... in a low single digit percentage of new photos made. For the rest - improvements may arise from photo technique and new ideas and new environments. So, I believe, there is a good chance that I will still enjoy my current cameras for just a while longer.

I've had iterations of the X100 since the X100T and I love the X100V. I waited 5 months for my V and it was worth it. I think with the update to the lens this is the perfect carry around camera and with the film simulations it matches very closely my Portra 400 pictures. This will have to make a significant leap for me to purchase the next iteration of the camera, at least for how I use it.

It’s a beautiful camera, I love my X100F. Another fault they can develop is the OVF/EVF curtain getting stuck up. OK if fully up as can use as EVF but needs repair if halfway up. Keep up the great content, really enjoy the channel Joe.

Indeed. I just purchased a gently used X100F from a private seller and the curtain got stuck half way the first day I had it. I sent it to Fujifilm U.S. for a repair estimate: $680. They don’t repair the hybrid viewfinder, they replace it, and the assembly is integrated with the lens, so that has to be replaced as well. A disappointing design. I asked them to please return it without repairing it and will cover the front viewfinder glass with black tape. A pity, because I actually enjoy the optical viewfinder.

I got a X100F at the end of last year (2022) after using a Panasonic G7 with a drawer full of lenses, most of which hardly ever got used. They all went to MPB (got a good price) and the X100F came from them. FilmSimulations - not that bothered, but that might change. Good work.

Excellent video, and I will say, some of your videos back in the day is what led me to purchase my X100V. I got a lot of use out of it, and while I recently sold it in order to build out my lens kit for my X-T3, it's an absolutely fantastic camera and I think a really good camera for when you are getting into photography as a serious hobby. The prices are a little insane right now unfortunately, so I think your suggestion of an X-E4 is a good alternative... not like-for-like, but very close.

As you said, the fact that they removed the D-pad of the X100V is a huge disimprovement. With the D-pad you got a lot more options to customize the camera, especially with flash photography it comes in handy. I don't know why they removed it on the X100V, I mean, the X100F wasn't even overloaded with buttons, it was just right. I hope they'll bring it back on the previous model X100VI (they already got the s for the second one).

Hey Joe. I love your videos, very informative, and beautifully shot. I'm looking forward to the Fuji Made in Japan one too. I love my X-100f, but I do wish Fuji would give us one last firmware update. I'd like to be able to name the custom color settings like on my X-T4. I put in some film sim recipes, but later can't remember what I put where. The X-T4 solved this by allowing custom naming. I think the old F could handle that. Oh, and focus bracketing might be a nice add too. Anyway, maybe since you've got Fuji's ear you could give them a suggestion! Oh and I passed on the V partly because I love the D pad, so good suggestion to bring that back for the next version!

I've had the x100F since backend of 2018, always liked the x100 idea since seeing/reading about earlier models but idea of a v.costly, fixed lens camera wasn't enough to justify it at time. Eventually was in position to pick one up (& yes, your early videos may have given me the nudge) and it is/has been my ONLY camera since then. Has been everywhere with me and seen many different moments, just love the fact it's ready to go with flick of switch. In general though I do really enjoy the Fuji manual controls too, way more intuitive than your typical (& now rarer) PoS camera. Now with XE4 I do wonder about switching for luxury of swapping lens but then I remember why I switched to an X100 - I no longer worry about falling down rabbit hole of lenses!!!

of course the 100v is still good! I just got mine about 2 weeks ago. Having spent years shooting Ricoh ( GRII + GR III) , and Leica (Q2) for Digital this little guy is the perfect middle ground between the two. Thanks a lot for this video, I’ve got a X100F and am really enjoying getting used to the Fuji system. However I do think the prices you quoted aren’t realistic in the current UK market if you want good condition. I’m not sure if it’s the same in other countries but I’ve seen average condition examples still going for over £800 which is mad but that seems to be the market at the moment.

The X100* cameras are a joy to use and produce amazing photos but there is a huge problem when dust gets on the sensor, unless you are lucky, there is nothing you can do to fix it that isn't very expensive. Once dust gets on the sensor it bugs you every time you view an image. That's why I now shoot with XE-* cameras where the sensor is accessible and easily cleaned and you get most of the same shooting experience except for the leaf shutter.

I was skeptical when they omitted the d-pad as i have become so used to it in all the older fuji models. But when i started to use the x100v, it didn’t matter at all when I was out and about. I set my custom buttons and the swipe & Q shortcuts, to be very honest, the only shortcuts I use are custom settings to select the custom recipes, back button focus and ND filter. In the end, the non-existent d-pad doesn’t bother me at all.

Now that the 100vi is out.... would you still recommend the 100v? Im leaning towards the latter for an upcoming trip due to the vi being impossible to get at the moment. I was told the 100v inventory could get better.

I’m still on my 100s 7 years and still going. Another point if you get dust on the sensor it costs a lot of money to clean. Just get an XE4 and then buy some glass your getting the same form factor and sensor.

I was one of those that got to know your channel thanks to those videos of the X100V some years ago! I was so surprised at their recent fame they've gotten as a digital camera with the fun vibe of the film cameras. In my case while I can't justify paying nowadays prices for what would be a non-work camera, I'd love to have one some day. Looking forward to that factory video!

I've been shooting Fujifilm for years. Particularly the X70 - their 16mp GRII competitor. Great cameras usability wise, I've never been a fan of the colours for portraits, great for street though. I think I'm about to finally move on to the Ricoh GRIII now, since fujifilm don't really want to give us an X70S, which is sad. These 100 cameras are too pricey for me. 😂

Technology makes us constantly want more, so we think we need more. In photography, slowing down is not a bad thing. Pro cameras are for pros, the rest of us just want to enjoy photography and the gear we use. This video has not aged well. The X-100F is impossible to find for under $1300 and and an X-100V is going for well over $2000. Still a good buy?

Interesting! I have an X100. As each version has come out I make a point to go and test them out a bit. I still haven't found anything that would make me spend the money to switch. Of course they are all "faster" as they up the line and more megapixels and so forth but I still just enjoy the experience, the output is as pleasing as it could be and truly fun to shoot. With this type of camera, what else is there?

Yes they're all worth it in whatever year. Then with many of the older models being available, potential customers at various affordability levels can purchase if desired.

So… I sold my x100f and since then bought/sold a xpro3, Xt3, xe2, xpro2 and a Xt5, and of course a handful of lenses. I still have the xpro2 and the lenses. This was all in a span of 18 months. I wish I would have just kept the x100f, or traded it in for a x100v. Love my xpro2, but there is something to said about just keeping it simple.

You mentioned that you use a cinebloom on your x100f. What make and level is it? I went to View All Mt Camera Gear and didn’t see it.
