The opening video reminded me of an Anton Corbijn Depeche Mode video. 👍🏻

That skit was awesome! Also, completely agree with you regarding how wasteful film is, and I've also been shooting a lot less of it myself. Thanks for sharing!

The short was cool. I hope you both had way more fun shooting it than it looked... it seems to me that there were a couple of times when you were almost losing it! And then I got to the end of the video... haha! Nice one!

@@Tom-Humble and that comment at the end about seeing shit pictures that use film as a crutch. 👌 does my nut in the amount of times I see pictures of that nature getting huge amounts of attention.

Lovely video. Have just picked up a GFX50R to replace my Mamiya7 for similar reasons you mention - in future videos would love to hear your advice, opinions making the amazing GXF sensor to feel more like film using presets, recipes, tips and tricks etc.
@Tom-Humble2 жыл бұрын
Thank you. I've had my GFX50R for a few years now and it's still my most used camera. I'll certainly look into doing a video about how I utilise it to get that film look.

Compelling arguments concerning mindful film usage. Possibly inciting the digital vs film brigade, from my early experience film seems to show a broader dynamic range than digital and film grain infers a great deal of emotion and life into images. Digital noise and adding grain in post processing just doesn’t measure up. Film grain is indeed a thing of beauty. I recall several portraits of family members I made with Tri X film couple months ago and there’s that slight blurriness which sometimes comes with film. What our concept of modern pictures having sharpness and clarity missing. But the portraits seem ever so life like. Must be the grain. By the by, I just took ownership of a Nikon F3 with a mint motor drive. It’s possibly as big as your GFX. It’s a thing of beauty grip and all. Plus it shoots film ! I am convinced despite the considerable despair and dreariness displayed in your skit, the inimitable Mrs. Humble adds a great deal of colour, happiness and grain into your life ! Cheers ! Stay humble.

That silent movie was brilliant! I’m thinking of knocking 35mm on the head and sticking with 120 6x9 for 8 shots a roll. B&W is a given for me. Keep up the good work, sir.
@Tom-Humble2 жыл бұрын
Thanks you sir. I’ve been tempted by 6x9 in the past myself. If I went back to shooting more medium format that’s what I’d shoot.

Hi Tom! First time viewer, awesome skit and intro. I have the same combo as well, the 50r and the Voigtlander 58/1.4 Nokton. Awesome lens, amazing rendering on the 50r.

Great skit! Made me laugh when you described Harwich - what a place for a getaway! I returned to film a couple of years ago abandoning digital altogether - even doing my own hand printing etc. But I too have recently done battle with my conscience and I'm fed up being broke shooting film - the environmental argument is a strong one, and we must all do our bit and take some responsibility. And yes the cost is outrageous, particularly with Kodak now cashing in on the film revival. The good news is there are people out there making great strides in creating alternative film and development methods but it's early days. Therefore I have decided to use my remaining film stock very, very selectively and when that runs out I need to decide if it's forever....... Thanks for sharing, Tom.
@Tom-Humble2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Agree there’s some people out there moving in the right direction to making film more sustainable, which is great. Until then I just think film shooters should be a little bit more conscious about how and when they use film as a medium. Digital isn’t the same and if I had to choose I would always choose film. It just hits harder and has more character. But it’s insanely wasteful when people shoot film for no specific purpose. And don’t even get me started on Kodak. Single use plastic disposable cameras and it’s neatly 2022. What the hell are they thinking??

Of all the things messing up the environment I wonder where film photography is on that list. I’d imagine pretty low down to be be honest. I’m not saying we shouldn’t be mindful over the waste it produces, specifically the chemicals but it’s a drop in the ocean compared to burning fossil fuels or the damage industries like beef farming does. Fair play on becoming vegan Tom. I don’t know if I have the discipline personally but have cut back my meat consumption significantly for the same reason.

I recently took the decision to stop shooting color film and reduce drastically my black and white film, why, the cost. Yes film is fun and I love the finish but the cost is becoming way too prohibitive
@Tom-Humble2 жыл бұрын
The cost is definitely a major factor for me. Too expensive to shoot it just for the fun of it anymore.
