I just bought a silver X30 (August 2024) as my only camera. Your review perfectly articulates why I chose it. In fact, I first watched this video in July and it was instrumental in my decision to select an X30 over an X100T. I especially related to your assessment that "It's a camera for people who take their photography seriously but not too seriously." Absolutely true!

My late grandfather in law was a respected street photographer and he used this camera and he gave me his before he passed away. I've got R5s for work, original RX1 and recently GR3 for Street stuff but I still grab the x30 for days out with family. Such a nice camera to use, I'd grab a new version if they made one in a heart beat.

That's excellent. RIP to your grandfather.

After a friend showed me his, and upon watching your video, I scored a mint condish one and took it on a family trip to Boston, NYC and DC. The X30 has brought me back to photography.

I have a Fuji X20 which is my walk around with my dog camera. A Belgian shepherd that needs a lot of exercise and this camera is never a burden even when we do really long walks. If I shoot in raw which I always do I have found that Lightroom and its AI noise reduction improve the results quite a bit even at low ISO values. Just a tip.

I have all three in my collection: X10 / X20 / X30, they are all great little cameras. My X30 sits always in my bag. I could be using my Sony RX100 for this purpose, as it's smaller and has bigger sensor - however the EXPERIENCE of taking pictures with the X30 is on a totally different level :) Thanks for the video!
@jmtphotographymediaАй бұрын
Thanks for sharing! And you nailed it. The Experience can make all the difference with your images. The composition, lighting, color, and joy to shoot will outway the pure image quality on paper.

I bought the x30 when it first came out and used it extensively during my frequent travels for several years until I bought an x100f because I wanted the larger sensor quality and better high ISO performance. As my x100f broke during an overseas trip in February, my X30 is back as my go-to travel camera. Yes, it is only 12 megapixels but that is more than adequate for most digital presentations. Plus modern noise reduction software has made the poor high ISO performance less of a problem. A feature you did not mention is that it has a leaf shutter like the more expensive x100 series. You did mention that it looks great which was verified when people commented about it when I was using it.
@jmtphotographymedia2 ай бұрын
You're right! The high ISO is not so much of an issue with modern post processing. Brings it back to life. The leaf shutter! How could I forget?
@PhilZwick2 ай бұрын
It also has image stabilization which helps with lower light and lower shutter speed shooting.

An original and unique sample. It’s cool that you’re not always on the popularity bandwagon. I like that you didn’t bore us with specs. The way a camera feels is important too. I have limited experience with Fuji cameras but I am very fond of them. This model intrigued me from the beginning but the price makes it’s hard to come by a good deal. They don’t make mid-range cameras like this anymore either which is a shame. How is the burst rate? Can you get 3fps in good focus with decent buffer refresh? How do you usually find your deals?
@jmtphotographymedia5 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching. How the camera feels is a big deal for me. This camera has that as a big advantage. I never really use the burst rate but it is decent. The price for the camera in this day and age is quite ridiculous but it shows it has value.

i have both the X30 and the X100S and i’m really not sure which one to keep and which one to sell. I feel like the pictures look better on the x100s but i just absolutely love my X30
@jmtphotographymedia3 ай бұрын
I have the X70 and X30. I use them for different purposes. Thr X30 is for outdoor, travel, and macro. Versatile with the zoom range. I try to stay at 800 ISO or less. The X70 (as does the X100s) has better image quality. So its more versatile for lower light and higher ISO situations.

Didn't know that model existed. Gratitude for the share, but I think I'm going with the XT-50. These vintage cameras are expensive, too. Enjoy.
@jmtphotographymedia5 ай бұрын
I look forward to see what the XT50 will have in features. Yes, older small sensor digicams have definitely risen in price over the past few years. I tried a lot of them and frankly none of them were worth it, except for the X30. So this one stays. Other than that APS-C all the way.

If you want a pocket version the xq1 or xq2 have the same 2/3 inch xtrans sensor (and film simulations ) .they have a different lens but are tiny camera body. the xf1 has same sensor as x10 but the even more strange manual zoom mechanism brakes on almost all of them

There 2 Digital cameras i have enjoyed using... the Fuji X70 and the X-Pro1... sometimes for commercial shoots i'm forced to use a Hassy or PhaseOne but for personal shoots or when it can be avoided i will never use a digital camera.... the Fuji X-Trans1 and 2 were just a joy to work with... sadly the sensors have gotten more and more clinical and lost some of their magic
