Thanks, great video as usual. Very strange things happen in the middle of the frame, it looks like XC is somehow de-centered as it is as sharp right in the centre, but few pixels left it gets soft. The same happens at the bottom, it gets softer while at the top of the frame it is as sharp as XF. I watched another video in which those two lenses were optically identical, it is maybe something wrong with that particular lens.
@KentuckyMan304 жыл бұрын
This was one possible explanation from a commenter: "It does look more like a focus shift/curve in the XC rather than a matter of sharpness. On that bookshelf example yeah, those books are softer, but the wood behind is much sharper on the XC example. Usually "pre-production" doesn't matter because the optical formula is the first design element to get locked down and doesn't get changed in the year or so before release, but in this instance I'm thinking if they only have a limited number of test copies to send out and that one has already seen some use, could be the plastic has warped or worn a bit and the lens might be mounting too far into the camera as a result, causing consistent back- or slanted-focus. I had that problem with the plastic Canon 50mm many years ago. The optical formula is identical to the XF version so there's no reason for the XC to have a curved field normally. So I'd hazard a guess that the plastic mount is the culprit." Seems possible. Haha. Regardless, it didn't affect my real world shots for the most part. This might be an explanation for why the sweater on my wife in one of the side by sides was sharper towards the bottom on the XF and softer on the XC. Both same apertures, nailed focus on the focal point (her face) and in theory, if the XF kept the bottom of her sweater sharp, the XC should have too.

I had both the XC 50-230 and the XF 55-200 and after a couple months shooting and comparing them sold the XF and kept the XC . The differences I saw were similar to what you have found with the two 35’s . XC lenses are great would like to see them put out a couple of more XC primes . Maybe the 90mm ,which would be awesome , I always think I would like this lens but don’t know if I would use it enough to justify the price but a XC version would be worth a purchase .

Very nice bokeh even at F2.8. I think I'd still go for the XF...perhaps a used one, to bring it closer to the price of a new XC. I find Fujifilm cameras are as much about the 'feel' as they are about technical proficiency . When you feel good about what you have, you tend to be more engaged in the process of imaging creating. But that said, if if budget is a major factor, it's good to know that this lens still performs well. :)

Based on your comments about sharpness, I'd guess the XC has some field curvature compared to the XF. For most photography, that shouldn't matter much. @KentuckyMan304 жыл бұрын
I love the X-Trans II sensor in it, for one. I actually prefer the "look" of the photos to the X-T2. I love the overall "feel" of using the X-T1 with a lens like the 35mm f/2. I prefer the shutter button (small thing, but contributes to the experience), I really like the ISO dial being inherently in a locked position. It's a more involved process to change the ISO vs. the X-T2; and for personal shooting, more involved= more fun for me. Ha. Overall, I get more joy from the experience and I actually prefer the look of the images. I'm working on a video comparing side by side photos taken with the X-T1 and T2 to show how they differ. Should be out by the end of February or beginning of March.

pretty sure they have the same glass lens elements. differences like that can happen even shot to shot as the camera re-analyzes the scene with a new shutter press. there’s really no reason for fujifilm to change the lens elements when they already invested in the r&d. this lower cost option helps them recoup the cost on this optical design.

I need some sort of a Fuji support group lol I really want to love my xt10, I bought a very basic kit second hand, not wanting to drag my dslr on vacation. I always liked what fuji has done with these, making them resemble actual cameras as much as possible, and I was ready to sing the praises of all things fuji. But... I came back bitterly disappointed and I do believe it is mostly due to user error, or even ignorance. This was my first experience with mirrorless and I am convinced I HATE mirrorless cameras, I can't stand evf's and now I have this little camera I can't even stand looking at. Please give me some relationship therapy. I really want to make this work. I suspect that the basic XC lenses the camera came with are a big party to this... The electric zoom is infuriating, slow, imprecise and I can't stand it - with a real lens, I know where I am just by feel... this thing... lacking any intuitiveness... yikes. The focus... that stupid volume dial of a focus ring is just completely useless. There is no tactile feel, I can't tell "where" I am in my focus range... I suspect better lenses would fix those issues - those are not tings I will ever get over, they are just garbage but then again, these are garbage lenses - perhaps the nicer XF lenses would fix this. But, the one thing that INFURIATES ME, is that every time I raise the camera to my eye it is zoomed in on a portion of the image... so I raise the camera to my eye, compose (usually confused as to what I am looking at), go to press the shutter and then it zooms out (to what the lens is actually seeing) and the moment is gone and I have to recompose... I just want it to behave like a real camera - I want the viewfinder to show me what my lens sees wide open, nothing more, nothing less. I don't trust the AF, it never gives me what I want in focus, and manual focus is really hit or miss, especially with that maddening zoom in that always happens. Is there a "SLR" setting? I don't want the camera to think for me, do anything for me, I just want it to do what it's told. I realize I will never like mirrorless with its fake little viewfinder that flickers and does stupid digital things, but this thing is small and handy and I think that millions of people smitten with these things can't all be crazy or wrong, so there must be something I am doing wrong. Anyway, I know this is off topic, please forgive that rant (cry for help? lol)
@KentuckyMan304 жыл бұрын
Wow. Haha. You've had quite the experience. As far as EVF's go, remember that the one in the X-T10 is something like 6 years old at this point and wasn't even top of the line at that time. They've come along way since then (although I still find the EVF in the X-T1 to be quite enjoyable). I'm not sure what the deal is with it being "cropped" when you look through the EVF. That certainly seems odd. Also not sure I can comment to your zoom lens issues as I've only ever shot with primes (save for my 10-24mm). As far as the camera just doing what it's told, I shoot in all manual so I don't have any experience with it not obeying. Haha. The only thing I leave in auto mode is the white balance which I find does a great job. I don't know, man. I know older, cheaper cameras aren't for everyone. Maybe you'd have more luck with an X-T20 or X-T30.

I think for most real world situations, you'd have to really split hairs as far as the image quality goes. I was just as pleased with what I was able to get out of the XC as I would have been with the XF. Take all the shots in the slideshow for example. I didn't feel like those were lacking in any way because they were taken with the XC and not the XF.
@teleaddict234 жыл бұрын
The small differences were noticeable. You said yourself that the XC wasn’t so sharp. That sort of thing is a bit of a deal breaker for me. The reason I chose Fuji is because the quality and feel of their lens is so good and to compromise on that defeats my reasons for shooting Fuji.
@KentuckyMan304 жыл бұрын
It's all about what one can tolerate. Keep in mind that this is a "budget" option (and a pre-production one at that). I did notice better performance in the corners on the XF, but again, this doesn't really matter in a majority of what I shoot in "real world" situations. I was beyond satisfied with the results from my real world shooting and honestly either lens would be sufficient for my needs in terms of image quality. I'm like you as far as the build quality and feel of their lenses. I'd pick the XF version over the XC any day simply because I like the better build quality and aperture ring. So, this lens isn't for you or I. However, I think for who this lens was made, it's a worthwhile investment.

Been with this lens for a few months now and for $200, you just have to keep your mouth shut😁. Only thing I would change is the mount, not because its plastic, but because it is pretty loose and wiggly. Anyone knows if you can swap it with the metal screw of some $5 Chinese adapter or something and live happily ever after? Someone tried that?
