GEMS - 33 1.4 - FAST sharp - OLD BUT GOLD - 90 f2 (so under rated but FANTASTIC and often cheap 2nd hand). Tiny, punching way above its weight - 50 f2.

I just took this 33mm f1.4 out for a first test run today. It's excellent. The fast continuous autofocus is working great (combined with my X-T5 camera with its all-important firmware update). Seems very sharp too. I bought it to provide a good low light alternative to my beloved 16-55 f2.8, but I'm also loving the little things like how the 33mm doesn't stick out as much - so doesn't feel like it's going to get bashed when I'm moving through crowds. I was afraid that 33mm on a crop sensor would be too tight for street photography, but it definitely isn't for mine. I still found myself having to walk in quite close. I think it'll be more challenging to use than some shorter focal length Fuji lenses, for street photography, as it lacks the immediate wow factor of their distortion and ability to keep all the background in-shot. But I think that's exciting, as the 33mm has to work harder to decide what to include or exclude from a shot. I'd still like using 16mm or 18mm capability on a separate lens for some 'fancy' close-in shots, but otherwise this 33mm gives me almost everything.

Imo its good to have both. 23mm for tighter spaces and scenes focused photography and 33mm for the opposite.

I have an X-T3 and I've considered the 35 f2 now for a while. I've been using the 18-55 like a prime, setting it to one focal length and not moving it. Then, this 33 1.4 came along and that went on the list. But, you mentioned another lens in this video that I'd really love to have for sports, the 50-140. I've been using the 90 f2, but that 50-140 is so sweet. But, that's gonna take a while of saving pennies! LOL! T So many on the list!! Thanks for the great review!!

I bought my 33mm earlier this year for event work. It's been fantastic for close up work. Really shows up how slooow my mk1 56mm 1.2 focus motor actually is. Really need to upgrade that. I only really use my 33mm, 56mm & 90 anyway!

I have the 56 and am considering buying the 33 for video. The 90 seems much larger in comparison.

@OfficialYouYube The Viltrox 'pro' line came out after I built my lens collection. Although it is appealing, I'll stick with my 33 for now, although the 56mm will probably get upgraded in the near future.

Great video, I agree the AF is like night and day compared to the 35

Awesome video man, just a heads up the fuji square hood that fits this lens I found to be a good bit lighter than the JJC version and the lens didn't feel as front heavy just incase you wanted to save a little weight.

Hey Matt I was wondering what camera you recommend most for beginners? I want to get into photography nothing crazy just taking pictures and videos of family friends and places I go !

What is your budget? And do you tip more on the image quality or more on the “ease of use”/portability side of things?
@malachijdiaz
@malachijdiaz Жыл бұрын
@@MattJacobs I care more about the quality of the image more than anything. I don’t have a specific budget but if I had to choose a camera preference I would want a camera that isn’t super big and easy to shoot with but also produces great quality photos !

Nice review. I find that it is not wide enough as a walk around lens.

When processing the raws do you have to correct for distortion or does it act like the full-frame equivalent of a 50mm?
@MattJacobs
@MattJacobs Жыл бұрын
I don’t believe there is any noticeable distortion and there should be correction profiles for lightroom

I’m wondering which lenses do you recommend for X-E2s?.

Probably the little f/2 fujicrons or a small manual focus lens. The more pancake the better

Which lens hood are you using? Also, is a hood necessary with this lens? Thanks.

It’s a metal square shaped hood from JJC. Honestly you don’t really need it most of the time I just enjoy how it looks and protects the front element when using.

Hey, have you tried the Zeiss 32mm f1.8? If yes, how does it compare to the XF33mm in your opinion? The Zeiss has a pretty nice look but I can't find it anywhere XD

Loved mine but sold it due to it's size, I mainly use my camera for street and travel, so while I loved the output from the lens, it was just a touch too long for me and drew attention.

You´re right, the 33mm f1,4 is a gem and with the square hood it even looks cool! ( I used to have the original expensive Fujifilm square hoods for the og 23mm f1,4 and 56mm f1,2 and they just looked sexy :) I shot Fuji for some 2-3 years but then I gradually went back to Canon FF as I realized for what I mainly do FF is just better every time. But what I kept and didn´t want to ever sell was an X-pro 2 + the 33mm f1,4. That is such a lovely combo that produces stunning results! But getting back to Canon is rather expensive so I needed all the money I could get and sold it :) If I ever have money to burn I´ll buy that combo again, and with that square hood! That said, I´m just editing a couple photoshoot shot with a Canon R + the og EF 50mm f1,2 L and the results are so lovely and quite honestly better than what I used to get from Fuji. Cheers.
