Fujin is one of the best thing that came out in aftermath, his personality and role in the story was refreshing. He even manage to do something that he failed to do in the midway timeline : Saving Raiden from corruption. If NRS can flesh out Fujin who hasnt been playable in over 14 years they can do the same with Kai... hopefully.

I would like to see Raiden's other brothers return with new designs they are Kagutsuchi (Fire God), Suijin (Water God), and Chijin (Earth God) from MK Mythologies: Sub-Zero. Kagutsuchi could be the mentor of Liu Kang and other Shaolin monks who specialized in flame based attacks and the one who bestowed them the power to control said element.

The cutscene stated that Shang Tsung was the one who made the crown, when clearly such an act of genius was Quan Chi's doing. I really do hope the writers and voice actors can get together and correct such a big mistake through a hotfix patch before misinformation starts spreading.

I agree, The way some people feel about kai as a character is mostly due to the great disservice that was done to his character by the MK creators. They did not and do not expand on his story like they do others who are far less interesting in my opinion...😒 like Johnny Cage. Kai's in a league above these other characters just based on his design, character and story alone so far. If Cassie Cage can come "practically out of nowhere" and become the champion of Earth-realm before The Great Kung Lao.. shouldn't be no problems about Kai becoming the new champion of Earth-realm in a new storyline under 🔥 God Liu Kang. Besides it Makes more sense for it to be Liu kang's protege, inheritor of raiden's lightning staff and a member of the White lotus.

They always do this when it comes to that type of relationship between established fan favorite and their black protege/disciple. For example. In Street fighter we have Sean matsuda, younger brother to Laura matsuda. Sean was originally supposed to be one of, if not the new main shoto character of second strike. But was reduced to a joke character like a new generation Dan hibaki. When in fact he was originally set up to be Ken's disciple with untapped potential. Next example.. At the end of dragon Ball z. Uub was set up to be Goku's successor and the next protector of Earth... Then we got GT. Now it seems like the writers of super are doing everything they can to postpone the arrival of Uub. Miles Morales is the only example of a black/blackish character being a protege/disciple and successor of an popular well known character done right... writers actually follow through with what's been set up. It's just too bad others can't do the same.

Kai even had planned concept art for deadly alliance and he still didn't show up, fujin I can see having an excuse as when the heroes go to outworld, fujin being earths protector and all would feel obligated to stay at earth incase the deadly alliance sent someone to attack earthrealm or if a new threat all together came to earthrealm unnoticed. deception no reason for either of the 2 to not be there.

Shujinko had a very interesting idea behind him and he was part of what is often considered the best Konquest mode we've ever had. We got to spend so much time with him to grow to like him as a character as we explored the realms, learned more about MK lore, characters and experienced the story. But making him an unquestioning idiot ruined him. Instead of a dude that went through a lot, experienced many things, many battles and he's now a wise, old but still capable fighter, he's that idiot that handed the Kamidogu to Onaga and almost fucked everything up. That's what turned a lot of people off. You can have a flawed character without turning him into a fucking idiot. That said, there's a lot they could've done with him. Back when MK11 hype was popping off, and /mkg/ was flourishing, one of the most galaxy-brained concepts I came across was the idea of making him an aspect/thrall of Shang. Kai was planned for DA at least, there's concept art of him using a Scimitar found in the Krypt. But yeah, not using Sareena, Kai, and Fujin is what I consider the biggest failure of DA and D.

Kai has been unfairly neglected. Imagine the interesting aspects of his character and his abilities people could have explored. Instead, he's only in two games, and not consistent between them (I always felt he looked too bulky in Armageddon--I know everybody was bulkier at that time, but he at least felt like he was bigger than Reiko and Jarek when 4 would make one believe he's a thin, lithe fighter who focuses on acrobatics). Personally, I think Armageddon should have made him a capoeira fighter, considering they couldn't think how to implement his handstand and they should have gone with something to show his nimbleness and dexterity. I still have the most desire to see Ashrah return, but I may mention her in every Mortal Kombat video I comment on. But still, she should be a factor in their narrative. After all, they accounted for several characters who should have no bearing on the plot of the current era of games (Hsu Hao and Nitara getting mentions, even Mokap getting referenced). X was all about fighting Netherrealm forces, which would necessarily lead one to believe Ashrah could have at least gotten a passing mention (even if it's something like Quan Chi mentioning her--she was one of his soldiers, after all, but then again Kia and Jataaka don't get much love either). Heck, in 11, she could even have been one of the heroes manipulated by Kronika (thematically tying into the fact that she's being used and misled by her kriss into thinking she's doing good, and so bringing her back and being misled by another into thinking she's redeeming herself). But, considering I do feel that the next game could be another anthology game like Trilogy or Armageddon (if the, most likely unintended, pattern the games fall into holds true), maybe we can see such characters again. At least I hope there's an anthology game. Despite their flaws, I like those games in the MK catalogue.

Honestly Ashrah is such an interesting character, at least in concept that I am really surprised they don't try anything with her. Then again you could say that about a lot of characters. Ashrah: Demon with magic sword looking to purge the evil from her soul by slaying demons so she can ascend. Sounds awesome, would work for MKX and 11, ignored. Tremor: A 'ninja' with Earth Manipulation, could easily be used to flesh out the Black Dragon and make them seem more like a credible threat and since Tremor apparently become a god in MKX he could be a pretty big threat in 11, ignored. Havik: A cleric of chaos, has half his face ripped off and constantly bends and breaks his body in grotesque ways just for fun, has a unique and cool whisper like voice that counters his brutal way of fighting and all he cares about is complete and utter chaos, meaning he's a wild card for any team so there is a lot you can do with him, ignored. Moloch and Drahmin: An oni destroyer and an oni torturer, these titles making it seem like they are really powerful Netherrealm threats. Moloch is a hulking creature with a ball and chain for a weapon and is strong enough to shake the ground around him just by slamming it. According to some concept art in I think Armageddon, he apparently has a pet raven that carries his ball around, drops it in a location and this summons Moloch to then wreak havoc wherever he ends up so he sounds almost like a force of nature. Drahmin has both a club gauntlet as well as a mask that keeps his rage at bay meaning he'd likely go berserk if he lost it. He also was apparently an Outworld general or something like that so there is some mystery into his old life that could make an interesting story, ignored...well actually they are treated like jokes. Nitara: Represents an entirely new realm we haven't seen anything from yet as well as a new species since she is the only vampire. She also manages to successfully free her realm from Outworld in Deadly Alliance so she's competent and capable, ignored. Its really annoying when they make a cool character or a character has a cool concept about them and they're either ignored or turned into joke characters.

Yeah agree Kai was supposed to be in Mortal kombat Deception returning after the death of heroes along fujin in the midway era or Dlc in Mkx... Mk deception later version in psn vita or Nintendo gamecube had frost, kitana, jax, shao Khan & Goro. NRS era is good somehow in explaining the stories but ruing a lot of nostalgia characters they need new writers for future Mk reboot games plot that listens more to fans... can't wait for your Wasted potential of Aftermath... respect 🙏🏻

I agree completely. Our first ever playable Elder God character and she's wasted as a lackey for the main boss. There was so much that could have been done her her; maybe have Cetrion start off on her mother's side out of familial loyalty but then switches, maybe have her purify Dark Raiden back to his old self instead of him just being wiped, maybe have some cut-scenes exploring her relationship with Shinnok (I imagine them being like the Son and the Daughter in Star Wars- antagonistic due to their fundamental natures but still considering each other to be family). A perfect example of Wasted Plotential.

This was always an issue with Mortal Kombat during the Midway era. Characters that would not show up in a sequel would either be neglected a reason as to why they didn't appear or would "die". MKA could reveal what actually happened, since all the characters were featured, however there weren't bios available for most of the characters. And the ones that were there, IMO were pretty shitty. Jarek's is the biggest exemple.

I always felt Kai gets the crown as the most obscure MK character in the main roster. Think about it, on one side you have the popular ever present characters from MK1-MK3 and the cool characters from more recent games (such as Frost and Kenshi) which manage to keep their popularity high, on the other side you have the various PS2 era characters that are straight up hated but are still famous for that (like Mokap or Hsu Hao). Right in the middle you have the MK4 newcomers, but even among them Fujin and Tanya are beloved and Reiko got popular thanks to his controversial ending; also Jarek got a tiny slice of recognition for representing the Black Dragon during MK4 and obviously got meme'd to death with the "I'm so gay" thing. So yeah in my opinion Kai takes the cake. The only other character that comes close is Nitara but I feel she gets a tiny bit of recognition as the only representative of her spieces, kinda like Drahmin and Moloch: no matter how unpopular they are they still get acknowledged every time we talk about Oni.

I always felt they got a little bit of recognition for representing the irderrealm, but even then that recognition usually hoes to Hotaru (who even appeared in MK11 in Joker's ending) @Jean Gentry Havik is one of the best MKD characters and he has a legitimate fanbase. Also Li Mei is liked by a lot of people and made an appearance in MKX. Mavado usually gets recognition for representing the Red Dragon in fact appeared in the MKX comic. (Though he EASILY wins as the WORST MK character in my opinion)

After John Tobias left the franchise, there came a lot of inconsistencies in the plot. Tobias was a good character creator and story writer. Ed Boon and company seem to care more about keeping the “gimmick” of the franchise as a priority. I would have no problem at all having Fujin as the leader of earthrealm’s warriors, or at least a co-leader. But Ed Boon probably thought it would make the story too different from the norm of having Raiden as the leader (eventually he kind of ruined the character anyway by creating evil raiden.). As for Kai, I liked the story of the character. But he lacked a proper gimmick. That’s probably why he was cast off.

@@hurricane7727 the problem was that after MK4, the franchise was at an all time low. Fighting games has decreased in popularity by then. So MK: Deadly alliance was supposed to be the big come-back. And commercially it made sense to have rayden back as the leader to give a sense of familiarity. Ed Boon is not a good storyteller. He is just allowing plot elements to come forth because he thinks it’s good commercially, but not in terms of quality to the overarching plot. (I miss John Tobias)

The "searching for my soul" thing with Kai would be interesting element to explore. My personal theory is that Kai is wandering around realms soul searching to literally search for his soul. Maybe in his past Shang Tsung took his soul but for whatever reason Kai did not die or was near death until someone aided him (similar to what Kung Jin did in his MKX ending with Kung Lao). That could also lead to his return and play a big factor in MK 12 if the bad ending in MK11 Aftermath is canon.

To elaborate on that further, all of Kai's moves in MK 4 demonstrated an almost inhuman level of strength. Maybe that is what he traded his soul for? Losing himself to power is what drives him to redeem himself and find his soul. Kind of like Ashrah's story.

To think Kai could have that "Fire Thunder God" ability back in the old MK timeline. Since he had Raiden's Lighting Staff (That welds the power of Thunder and Lighting) and he was Fire user, he could of been a force to reckon with. If he would of returned in V (Deadly Alliance) no way Quan Chi and Tsung would have won. Kai finally woukd of been revamp and wouldn't of been painted as a knock off patsy of Kang. They continued to drop the ball with Kai over and over and over... smh Kai deserves better.

I have pitch in mind for Fujin in the rebooted post MK 11continuity (which is part of a bigger pitch I have for MK new continuity) : In the reboot, Fujin would be introduced during the Shinnok invasion, warning Raiden and Earthrealm heroes about the villain's plan to attack the Elder gods with his army of revenants. In the end, the heroes are able to defeat Shinnok's army, with Raiden sacrificing himself to defeat the villain and restore the revenants to their human forms, breaking them free from Shinnok's control. Before dying Raiden would choose Fujin as his new protector, which he would accepted, promising Raiden that he would not fail him. This would be follow by the events of Deadly Alliance and Deception, which, in this new continuity, would showcase the end of the old generation (Liu Kang, Kitana, and other warriors) by the hand of Deadly Alliance, and the plot of Deception would center around Fujin and the surviving warriors (ex: Sub Zero, Scorpion, Sindel Johnny Cage and others) trainning the new generation of warriors (Kai, Cassie Cage,Jacqui Briggs and Frost) to help them defeat Onaga. During this, Raiden would return as Dark Raiden, taking some questionable decisions in the conflict against Onaga, which would put him against Fujin, saying that his decisions are naive and that he failed as Earthrealm protector. This would all result in a duel between the brothers,which ends with Fujin defeating Dark Raiden, claming that, while he loves and respects his brother, he shall not follow the same dark path he took.

It would've been great to see Fujin and Kai back in Deadly Alliance, Kai could've joined the heroes and Fujin would've rallied them up, It isn't until the heroes are killed leaving only Fujin that Raiden relinquishes his status as Elder God and decides to help his brother in a 2 on 2 final Battle with the sorcerers... And in Deception, Raiden would come back as an Evil God as the original, but Fujin stays dead, that would make his transformation make more sense since now everyone he once considered a family is gone, and it would make his hatred towards Shujinko more justified
