Not having a front light makes the background to notes look so unappealingly dark. And having the borders white rather than grey makes the contrast between the frame and the screen look even worse. I was waiting the whole video for you to turn on the light! The writing latency seems a bit slow, especially when you draw a rectangle. Plus the flash it does every time you finish a colour stroke made me wonder if it was something other than Kaleido 3. The closeness to the screen though is really cool. For writing feel the flexible screen of the Supernote is the best I’ve experienced. Be interested in you comparing the Manta with this device.

Thank you so much for the review - I have a generic question - even this latest and greatest - I still see flashing as soon as you draw even a single line. Is there ANY pdf/annotation e-ink device that avoids this?

I like to use my Kobo Libra color under good light without the frontlight so I wouldn’t mind this 😊 I love the split screen feature.

I woud like to have an Infinite Canvas for Mindmaps, Is it possible to have Huge canvas that has multiple times the size of the screen (to replicate infinite canvas) that you can move in all directions (left,right,top,bottom)? Or is there infinite canvas already? If none, would you say it's worth it to zoom in a lot in a simple canvas to make it like if it was bigger and from that zoom level, move and write in the canvas as if it was bigger? Would really appreciate an answer =) This is what I'm searching for in the device.

Do you recommend using screen protectors for protecting the screen or a better writing experience? Or using screen protector on top of it will ruin the writing experience?

The screen looks very sharp and I've always admired and loved the querderno from factor and it's great that it's all plastic at this size but it doesn't have front light which is a deal breaker for me. I'll never get it at this size maybe one day I'll try the 10-in size in color for mainly writing. For reading I would not get used to the dark screen. Same reason why I send back paper pro but this is better to me than paper pro as it has true blacks and text looks so sharp and close to screen. for me the colors look good but I think in certain situations I will miss the front light that's on the other keleido 3s. I like the distraction free simplicity of querderno it's only sold in Japan so if I have issues in the first weeks/months I can't get warranty help easily. that's the part that gave me pause otherwise I would have gotten the gen 2. I feel like they should have put even a smaller light like paper pro because I think less people will buy it because of the dark screen unless it's for mainly writing.

The key consideration is whether you want to pay for the Remarkable monthly subscription to upload documents to your tablet or download to other devices. Without paying this subscription, there's little you can do with the Remarkable/

@@goodereaderIndeed, it’s an inherent trait of kaleido 3, which is, as you know, why many manufacturers add a front light to their devices. I have a couple of kaleido 3 devices and I have to admit my personal preference is to have a front light. Naturally that does have its own disadvantages, it certainly seems to add to the washed out effect of the kaleido 3 screens. But when all’s said and done, I can’t guarantee optimal lighting conditions at all times. So for an all-rounder, I think a front light is definitely a necessity. However, there are situations where these devices can be of good use, and if you use your device primarily in good light, then the extra real estate offered by the screen of this device is a definite boon. I wouldn’t, however, recommend it to someone to primarily use as just an eReader. One of the great benefits, I find, of traditional eReaders with front lights and dark mode is being able to, for instance, read in bed at night without disturbing your overly sensitive to any kind of light pollution, wife 🙄

Tbh, it’s a great device, but I cannot stand the fact that it looks so grey. Paper is not gray, it’s pure white, and honestly the reason why I use the remarkable 2 is because of the contrast and sharp white

Thanks for the great review. How soft is the pen tip? I've just worn down a tip on a Boox pen writing on the glass Note Air 4C. I'm a little worried with the plastic screen of the Quaderno, that it might scratch easily. I am pretty ham-fisted. With over 50 years of struggling to write legibly, my best effort is with pencil on paper, so I use a 0.5mm mechanical pencil all the time. I find the Boox Note Air 4 C screen close to pencil on paper, but not the same, so maybe the Quaderno would be better. For my work I have a very narrow use-case of making hand-written notes on PDFs of floor plans, so if that's all the Quaderno Gen 3 C does, then that's fine. A 13.3" device limits the amount of panning around on very large plans. I was using a Boox Tab-X and have Just switched to a Boox Note Max. I mention this as the Note Max as you know has no glow light. It's my first non illuminated e-ink device and it did worry me greatly. I was really disappointed with how grey the "background' was. However, using the Note Max for work in an industrial building with very poor lighting - many blown tubes - I just got stuck in to work and had absolutely no issue at all using the Note Max. A colleague had no issue reading my writing over my shoulder. I've also spent several evenings reading also with poor lighting and had no issue at all. It did take about 2 weeks of use and reflecting on the experience for me to realise that at no time I struggled. The front-lit Note Air 4 C was inches away, but didn't reach for it. Don't get me wrong, If I could get an illuminated version, I would, but it's not essential. I am about to lend my kaleido 3 Note Air 4C to a colleague, who is a reMarkable user and she will almost certainly use it with the front light turned off. I must ask her why she dismissed the reMarkable Paper Pro as an option. The "poor" colour of Kaleido 3 is not an issue for me & my colleague, any colour will make a great contrast to grey-scale for our notes, we aren't creating art. Resolution of the Quaderno Gen 3C at 207/103 is a little of a worry, 207 ppi greyscale is the same as the old Tab-X, which didn't used to worry me at all, until Boox came out with 300/150 on their 10.1" colour devices and 300ppi black & white on the note Max. I hope with BOOX having done the 300 ppi Carta 1300 that a 13.3" 300/150 kaleido 3 is in the works with somebody.

The screen will not scratch as long as you don't use a hard tip ceramic like a super note The thing that will wear down is the tip, not the screen We have the DPT, and the first generation quaderno from back 2014 and 2017 respectively, there are no scratches on the screen

I loved my gen 1, i use only for pdfs, but I recently lost the pen and decided to rather pay for a new tablet then 120 + nibs shipping that makes 200 almost. Bought the remarkable pro but is torn between it or the gen 3c. Any advice :)

Any Wacom pen works with all Quandeno. I use Wacome One. But lammy, jumbo anything and everything wacom compatible works! Unlike rM Paper Pro

@@khamisa.5384 no, Fujitsu is a solid brand with a solid product They are built well, everything works, and there is no shortage of after sales services like parts, software updates, PC apps, warranties, phone call and email customer service There is also support for their older models that were made nearly six years ago All these beat list manufacturers release 6 units a year, discontinue units before they even have an inventory stream, and everything is so broken, slow, and devoid of any customer service We're not giving anything too much credit and no, it is not overrated.
