Think a slightly longer model, with a stair rail and better protection from falling downstairs would be good. More storage incorporated under the stairs would be nice as well. Love the big windows, expansive feel, and heated floors.

But the costs are rising far too much. £140-160,000 for this tiny house is the same price that people already can’t afford for a regular small house or apartment, so its no longer solving one of the biggest issues tiny homes were originally designed to solve! It’s ecologically more sound, and offers more freedom than a regular home, but neither of those mean very much if it’s only financially affordable to people who can already afford a regular house.
@Vagabundotinyhouse
@Vagabundotinyhouse Жыл бұрын
@@PhilipOsborneUK I get your point, the thing is, housing in Germany has already reached that price in every perspective and as we build the house in German construction standards, of course it costs more than a house been built in Poland or Portugal due to different quality standards and building regulations tiny houses are that costy here in Germany! Still probably 20% of the costs of a regular house! But I can totally get your point, everything is getting so expensive at the moment!

Wish our local governments, well any government would understand that. If it’s been 25 plus years since they have built affordable housing in our city with the only upcoming units are 9 bachelors for people that need extreme help, for Mental illness, drug abuse etc needing nurses for basic daily tasks cooking etc Which of course is a good thing. But the only other thing we hear about is the millions coming for the country within the next ten years to build more affordable housing. No set plans. The joke is our prime minister came to our small city (160,000) outside of Toronto to make this announcement. But yet there aren’t even sites chosen for such homes. Two years is too late. And ten years is cruel !! We have horrible bi laws for Tiny homes. With no village’s anywhere in sight. It’s to the point now I’m hearing more and more especially single people talking about feeling suicide might be their only option. 😞😡🤦🏼‍♀️. Why are we just excepting this. I have housing. Affordable but I won’t feel ok until I know this housing crisis is over. If ever. Whether you have housing or not we need to join the fight before we loose good people who deserve to live !!!

I think it's kind of insane to put the oven under the stairs. What if you need to stir a casserole, or check something cooking? There is nowhere to put a spoon and it's awkward to carry a hot pot around the corner to the bench. The backless sofa doesn't look too relaxing to me and the opportunity to fall down the upstairs gap is a real danger. Otherwise the light and the finished quality are really beautiful.
@brentfrench752

I agree with another that recommended making a longer unit as well. I also think a collapsable or removable stair rail around the stairs of the second floor would be a great addition, and far safer. I would suggest you use a similar table downstairs as you have upstairs so you can seat four when you have family or friends over for a meal. I like the oven, but that space would be perfect for a television. Perhaps you can move the oven under the stairs, or install a convection microwave which is smaller, but still allows you to bake? It would be nice if it had a larger fridge, but it doesn’t appear you have the space. I really like the fact that the second floor raises which is what sells the unit. It’s a nice little unit that solves a need, but I’m afraid it likely wouldn’t do well here in the US because of the price, but maybe I’m wrong as housing here is terribly expensive, at least where I live. You clearly used top of the line materials which shows. Thanks for sharing

Those stairs would frighten me, I need a bannister on which to hold so as not to fall off. Also, you would NOT catch me lying on the floor like he did upstairs. One roll to the left and you'd quickly be downstairs. It would be great if this home could be made longer, it feels very short. I like the corner lifts, nice touch.

I like it! But I would put a fold out table under oven and add a wrap around sofa, and have the window open out instead of it. Also, need some type of railing on 2nd floor, and closet. I realized the steps. I don't use anything round, so an octagon window would look better. Where is the washer/dryer? Microwave? Maybe add a TV for movies that retracts up from behind a hidden cabinet??? Nice job with that lowering the top floor...:-)

The lifting second story is functional and cool. Some of the design choices aren't as practical as they need to be for tiny living. Doors and windows opening inward when they can slide uses up valuable space. The staircase is an opportunity for more kitchen storage which isn't being utilized to it's full potential here. Huge windows can be nice but having them come all the way down to the seat height means one is resting against a cold window.
@Vagabundotinyhouse
@Vagabundotinyhouse Жыл бұрын
Hi Sage, I totally get your point, in the end it's a big tradeoff between functionality and quality. We have thought about many features as for example additional storage underneath the staircase, but it does not apply to quality norms and will make the staircase very weak and expose our client to risk to injuries on the staircase. But after all, many more features could be implemented, you're definitely right!

@@Vagabundotinyhouse Americans don't understand how efficient and heavy German windows are. Ours are crap, yours are like bank vaults. But I did notice in my stay in Berlin and Hamburg you have far less urban insects. In the US, a concern would be insects getting in, that's why we have screen windows we install to allow in the air but keep out the insects.

Like this. Would like a railing for stairs. Could maybe do a door over stairwell. So then you can't fall down or have more floor space if you need it. You could offer to do shelves racks you can adjust size then put pieces of wood on and rails for hanging clothes. So they are easy to take down for moving. Under the stairs could you design it better for more storage? Or even put draws on the steps. More storage is always good. Love the idea for you the under the house for bikes, lawnmower, and other items. This is only the beginning for you. Good luck! You are thinking outside the box!

You bring up a great topic. Hopefully the builders can jump on here with more info. 😊 Because you can set this on the ground (or of), that might provide additional security from wind and easily be tied down. It’s no taller than other homes and uses the same framing techniques.

@@Vagabundotinyhouse ,I saw a video a few years ago where they had all plumbing and wiring going through an attachment used in oil and gas usually so it could be detached during a storm. And I have seen buoys attached to either deck or house twice. A former neighbor wanted to put their house on a barge or tugboat after surviving several hurricanes. A client in Washington bought a lot that flooded half the year and built a deck with a little cabin around his anchored fishing boat. Much cheaper than marina rent, and ruined his first wife's crazy plans! But similar idea. Hopefully this made sense; Might need more coffee 😂.

@@Vagabundotinyhouse Not sure Americans understand German construction. American houses are built very flimsy. The quality of your materials is probably lost on them without touching! On the other hand, wind could be an issue as high as it is.

Which would be totally fine, but not for that price. In terms of the design it compets with houses around 40 / 50 tausend dollars. And at the end the second floor as much as I want to love it, is mostly the whole for the stairs. BIG potental, but not there yet.

I think that because their focus is on modularity that it would be hard to create a space for storage. I really like the technology they adapted to make this thing possible but practically speaking, it's only for the very minimalist people. As you continue to live in your tiny, you acquire more stuff, and that means storage. Although I see storage in it, I don't think it's enough. Anyway, I'm not a minimalist. Another thing I notice is the top floor. I personally wouldn't want any toddler on the top floor as they can easily fall off because there are no rails or walls. Even not a toddler, anyone could accidentally fall. The concept is great, the technology is good, the overall design though isn't practical for me, in my opinion.

The concept is good, too often people have to crawl around the top floor of their TH which is a non no for lots of people. However it may be a generational think or a German design thing but I feel aesthetically it is too like a portacabin that you would see on a building site. Also inside it is all hard surfaces and sharp corners not comfortable. I appreciate the desire for lots of light but I feel that with all the windows you’d feel awfully exposed( also no wall space means no space for books or art.. The designers would do themselves a big favour if they got professional designers into to decorate and prepare it for showing. At the moment it his half TH have industrial unit.

Thank you. :)) My opinion no one asked for 🤭🤭😆 I think if the top part was dark grey or black and maybe copper/grey/black window/door frames on the lower part It would look a lot better. More like a home. Right now it kinda looks a bit too much like a cover for the lower level “container”. There’s no pretending you aren’t home in this dwelling 😜

I really like the two story concept. My only concern is the lack of closet space upstairs. Could you construct an outside wall closet that would lift with the second story, but not be in the way of the lifting travel path?
@TinyHouseExpedition

Interesting question 🤔 not sure. In the upstairs you could add a big Ikea wardrobe and other small space furniture/storage solutions, but you have to take it downstairs for when you’re ready to relocate

@@TinyHouseExpedition That’s the beauty of my suggestion. The closet would be constructed on the outside wall of the second story and would lift when it lifts, but the doors would face inside to the living space to access the closet,nothing to move out of the way at all.

My concern about the second story is what appears to be a complete lack of any kind of guardrail. Unless a removable one can be added as an option, I think that's a big accident waiting to happen. Falling from that height and landing on those stairs would definitely be a bad thing. 😞

I like the finishing materials they used and the quality of construction. But ultimately, having the roof telescope up seems a lot less practical than slide outs. The lifting roof forces an already narrow main living space to be even more cramped. Maybe someone can come up with a system where the upper walls fold down onto the upper floor and only the roof lowers down to rest on the folded walls.

We have bridges in the US and very tight building regulations. This place wouldn't make it without some serious foundation work and their water in/water out plan wouldn't fly as is. And in EARTHQUAKE areas those STILTS...AH NOT! Then there is the whole live in a fishbowl thing, have to hang the drapes from the ceiling....also not.... I know it snows in Germany, how could they think anyone is going to want to lean up against cold glass? I know that aside from no drapes there is next to no padding on the box in the 'living room'...am I wrong did he call that a couch? I was probably wrong....oy.... The kitchen has a very odd layout & next to no storage. A light up sink won't fix that. The space he talked about for a washer in the bathroom, I really don't think that the washer/dryer combos we have would fit if you wanted to be able to open the door...all the way.... There is no handrail on the stairs - HUGE SAFETY ISSUE... Upstairs is little more that a jacked up box. There is zero storage. Def would not be considered a bedroom here....no closet, but hey there's a expanding table. WooHoo. And for what they are charging??? We could get a totally, fully, decked out Tiny house for less that that. FOR SURE...and maybe one that lifts too.

The ground floor looks like a cell. That is not a living room. You gentlemen need a designer; as engineers, you thought of function but you did not think of actual living. I was so excited to see someone had finally incorporated a lift but you missed to totally-and you talk about customization but the space is even more limited than any other tiny home.
