I also highly recommend only booking through the ship for excursions. I’ve heard too many scary situations people have been put in trying to book outside if the cruise company. If something happens to you while on an excursion or to and from the cruise line is responsible for you they aren’t if you go off on your own.

I do recommend this to my new clients, however, I have had some incredible experiences outside the ship. I have several very reputable suppliers that work closely with the ports. I have also been told that even outside of the ship excursions, if you were stuck in traffic or anything like that, you could call and make the ship aware. They are not obligated to wait, but within reason, they will. Most of the reputable vendors outside of the ship plan to have you back several hours early to give plenty of time for anything unexpected.
