I finally bought my first few begonia. I always thought they were gaudy and ugly, not to mention fussy. Then I spotted one in a nursery that I found to be gorgeous. Now I realize there is a begonia out there for anyone. And that so long as you only water once the leaves start to droop slightly, most are incredibly easy to grow.

Love begonias so much🖤 I’d highly recommend finding a terrarium that holds 99% humidity for Sarawak (she is so serious when she says she needs high humidity). I have mine trying to bust out of 8x10 inch paludarium that I bought mostly because the door shuts without gaps and I silicone sealed the rest of the frames. I think having a water section in there also is really helpful in keeping the humidity

My Begonia 'Corallina de Lucerna' is an absolute beast. When I first heard that they are one of the tallest growing begonia varieties I was not surprised at all. If I had never chopped mine in the past 2-3 years, it'd be over 15 feet tall, honestly probably larger. Instead though, it gets chopped every 2-3 feet since my space is very small and to prevent the leaves getting burned from my lights. I was never a begonia person until I got gifted my Lucerna, now I absolutely love cane begonias and can appreciate many of the rhizomatous begonias. I got what I believe to be is a 'Lynda Dawn' recently and I am so excited to watch it push out new leaves. Thank you so much for this video, Fern! I need to get my hands on a few of these, especially the Sinbad!

I have a love/hate relationship with begonias. The ones I buy locally are never labeled with the variety. I’ve had bad luck with the Rexes. They need high humidity and I don’t have a cabinet, so I’ve killed a few. I currently have one that’s doing OK. My maybe White Ice grows like a weed. I’ve had to start my Amphioxus over multiple times due to root rot from getting too wet or too dry! 😂
@laslunas2561Ай бұрын
Hii, I commented on your Sarawak under another Video, the one in wich you broke up your propagation box. If you give it another try at some point, I suggest you try a humidity of 85-95% ( if its below 80% over a longer period of time, thats definitely too dry for it), thats what mine gets, and try not to get the leaves wet/see that they dry up quickly( if you happened to spray them) Also try to only switch to mineral after they have rooted. Thats what worked for me. I actually was a bit confused when I first heard that this was considered a rather tricky to maintain Begonia, since I got it going on my first try. I wanted it because its the smallest Begonia with such a strong iridescence I know of and therefore kinda the only iridescent Begonia I could get, due to not having space for bigger ones, so I just got it without looking into its requirements much and just threw it in my greenhouse cabinet😅 However, since the environmental conditions in wich we both grew them are the same ( I have the same greenhouse cabinet too) except for the humidity level, it really might be that. I also didnt lay it down on the soil but plucked a node in, so the leaves get airflow all around. My Lichenora, wich is very similar to Sarawak, started exactly like yours tho, so idk if that also bothered your Sarawak...It could only be that it mimimied because of having its leaves too wet permanently from laying on the damp soil ( it looked quite wet on top in the vid). If my Sarawak hates one thing, its having its leaves wet too long 😅

I’m in Ontario and I often see Begonia thurstonii growing in outdoor planters in the warmer months. My theory is that no one really buys thurstonii, you either steal a cutting from an outdoor planter or get it from someone who did 😂 My thurstonii came from a coworker who got it from her mom who got it from her neighbour (who may or may not have been the original cutting thief)
