Great video, I’m an Abu 1500c collector. I have a Red, Burgundy,Orange,Blue,Gold ,Chrome with gold emblem and the standard anodised 1500c IAR. All new in box. I also have a 1500c IAR that I fish with. Watching your video got me excited about these reels again 👍

Well done, nice project, but... You're right. It is a little hard to understand why you need such a perfect specimen of a reel - you're replacing all the parts anyway. An old junker would have sufficed. Perhaps you could send me the leftover original parts. Then I would have a brand new reel in perfect condition to fish with 😁 On a more practical note - when you're replacing the handle for a longer one, you have to reel in faster, work more with your hand since the circumference of the circle is larger with a longer handle.

Yeah it’s kinda hard to explain but, it’s really not about just building a reel to fish with. I have like 50 reels to fish with. If I ddnt have any reels to fish with and I just needed one to fish with I’d prob just buy an aldebaran bfs and go fishing, since an aldebaran would out perform this reel anyways for about a 1/8 of the cost. Building this reels is more of a hobby/fun thing to do and see how well I can get it to perform. This reel isn’t a basic fishing necessity, it’s a unnecessary luxury hobby. But it’s what I enjoy doing. But yeah the reel is now mainly aftermarket parts and all I really needed was the side plates and that would of been my ideal way to go about it, but just buying the side plates is not an option. The reel itself is almost impossible to find, in this condition, the side plates by themselves are even harder to find. And being that this reel isn’t just a basic fishing tool, it’s actually a luxury item, I want brand new side plates. That’s actually my requirement for buying a reel is it has to be brand new it perfect condition or else I will not buy it. I am sort of a collector. Strictly speaking purely from a fishing point of view this doesn’t make sense. But again it’s not about simply going fishing. It’s kinda like someone buying a brand new sports car when all they needed was a used beat up junk car to get from point A to point B. Buying a sports car isn’t about purely transportation.

@BFS_Fishinginthedeepsouth i absolutely agree. I own a 2500c that was made in 75 and i have personally owned it for over 20 years now. I used to watch these cats from japan throwing these super tiny lures in small creeks catching trout and i was totally amazed at what i saw. I started researching and that led me down the road you took as well i see. It was reallyfun to aquire all the parts a little at a time and then put it all together when i was done. I use mine for small bluegills and chubs here in ohio but i also put my original spool back in and use it with a sabiki rig to catch bait when im in florida. Not sure if you know or not but they say not to use too much drag when u have it set up as bfs or u can break things. Anyway, great video and a great reel. Congrats friend.
