We heard about a 1977 Granada with a low miles, but several mechanical issues. We wanted to build a ride that looks like a Sunday driver… but runs like a Super Stocker when you open up the throttle! We’ll give it a stroked 347ci Small Block Ford, valvetrain that will turn 8000 RPM, and a shot of nitrous for BIG power. Then… we take our 500+hp Sleeper to the streets!

I had bought my very first car with the money I had saved from working on weekends while still in high school. I paid $500.00 for it. I bought it from my dad's mechanic buddy. Even though the old V8 had a blown engine my dad's buddy said he's repair the engine for $500.00. The guy told my dad he would bore the engine out to .030 of an inch. He new rings, bearings, the whole works. He even Put a hotter cam in it. We put some headers on it and some other go fast parts that I don't remember. But that little red Granada had about 275 RWHP. For a 15 year old kid. That was just enough hp to have a lot of fun with. I will never forget that Granada out running my cousins a brand new 1982 Toyota Supra. Good times in that car.

My grandfather had a Granada and also a Mercury Monarch. I remember sitting in the middle of the front bench seat between him and my father and when grandpa was feeling frisky, he’d give me a little smack on the leg to get me to stay clear of the gear shifter he was about to snap in my direction while jamming gears in the 4 speed. Pretty sure there was a 351 under the hood and most likely anything he owned would have had some kind of work done on it to make it faster. He was a master cylinder head man and spent his whole career after leaving the navy working on cars, working magic on specific parts and fabricating things to make motors run better.

I had one with a 302 and 4 on the floor. When the warranty expired, put in a Crane cam, 4 bbl and created dual exhausts. normal highway driving got 20-28 mph, but the 4 speed , 4th was overdrive it had a top speed in warp factors. I recall going on a straight stretch of road in 78 and a corvette blew by me. I put it in 3rd and pulled along side and waved, we were doing 120 plus. He was shocked. He backed off to get fuel and I followed him to do the same. He could not believe my Granada was that fast. I then said, yes, I pulled along side you in third gear. I started the engine and he knew it was a far cry from stock. Nothing like your monster, but a lot of fun. I was in the Army and sold it to a guy who was headed to Germany, he said he had to guess how fast he was going but loved to go up and down the Autobahn

In 1977, my boss man at work had a new Granada. I was taking night classes after work at a community college 20 miles away. My car was having reliability problems and he was kind enough to offer his new Granada to me so I wouldnt miss classes. Though I only used it two times, that Granada was a very nice car! My mom bought a Mercury Monarch in 1974 which is the same car with a few upgrades especially the hood ornament which was round instead of squarish and that alone added an elegance factor. White with red interior was awesome. Same v8 and it was the best new car value at that time. We loved it.

My grandmother had one of these 45 years ago. I remember being a boring car but it seems to have aged nicely. I can picture this being a fox body while I know Fox Bodies did not exist yet, not until a couple years later with the fairmonts but this is nice, I wouldn't mind having one of these

As a kid of about 17 I worked in a full service gas station and picked up parts every day in that exact model Granada. It's some of the best memories I have of learning to drive. Mechanics at the Shell station I worked at had hopped-up and put a great tune on the motor. The car was fast, we named it zoomer

I had a '75 Granada that had a straight 6 in it with a 5 speed manual tranny. I bought another one that had a 302 w/ automatic. I swapped out the 6 cyl for the 302. It bolted right up to the 5 speed. Then I put some air shocks, shackle extensions, and G50's on the rear and 70's on the front and that little car would scat! The only problem I never did resolve is there wasn't enough clearance between the exhaust manifold and the wheel well. Because of that, the way the P/S hose ran it kept getting burned in half. I finally sold it to someone who had a few more "resources" to play with it. But, it was fun to drive while I had it.

Great job guys, I could never imagine someone turning a Granada into a stock car. I'm a machinist formerly from Cleveland OH in Summit racings is a local company in our back yard,. I owned a Granada, and it almost felt as stable as a Ford model -T driving down the road. The ford Maverick was much closer to the ground and seemed more suitable for stock car racing. Thanks for posting good content!

My first car was a 1975 Granada! It was so awesome! Was brown with the avocado interior, bucket seats, three on the tree auto, straight 6. I changed the straight 6 to a 302 and put the 4-speed manual tranny in it, put some Cragar's on it as well as a spicer 9.75 differential...holy moly it was ugly...but it ended up kicking ass!!

Wow, I absolutely love this project. Being a Ford fan helps of course and the fact that I used to hot rod a Maverick with a 302 4spd. That Granada being 3800 lbs, you can shave 1000 lbs off that by putting that 347 into a Maverick or Comet. Fun fun

Good luck finding a skinny bumper maverick. Those, and 66 back Mustangs are good candidates for the 347, anything else a 393w would fit! Or, a 408! Noone will believe that's a 302 anyway!

I just discovered your channel and really enjoyed this build. I believe my dad had a 1975 Granada with a 302. The 70s were some rough years for performance after the factory hotrods of the 60s. The conscious effort to reduce emissions began then and Ford reduced compression and introduced EGR making the 302 , 2 V a whopping 130 HP. When you took the car on the road , I recognized roads and buildings in the area. I live about an hour from you and over the course of 25 years spent a good bit of time there with my work. Like they say, it's a small world.

Great build, one of your best video's yet. You two work together well and are knowledgeable and entertaining. 7 seconds in the 1/8 mile converts High tens or 11 in the quarter. Ya gotta love a sleeper, especially with those flip of a switch exhaust cutouts. The luggage rack on the trunk is fantastic. I'm curious how much it would gain by ditching that factory air cleaner just for the track. Also would be interesting to put a ram air vent onto that factory air cleaner, many cars from that time period had what looked like dryer vent hose routed to the grill for cool air intake, you wouldn't lose the stock look that way.

I had a couple of those car's in the 90s and I installed a cam lifters dual exhaust and a 4 barrel carburator, lower gears in the rear and it flipped me and several others out with how strong it ran lol. I put 8" rim's all the way around it with 70 series tires on the front and 60 series 15 inch tires and rim's all the around it so it would appear to be a stock vehicle, it had plenty of pep and then some lol. I loved playing around with people in it cause nobody ever done anything with em except drive until they most usually just fell apart...That's a nice looking car and you don't see em anymore cause nobody saved em. I's always interested in different types of vehicles that nobody wanted and I paid like 150 bucks for each car on different occasions. The lite blue on blue one is the one I went all out on cause it had low miles, so I figured why not lol. Those were like Fords small or midsized luxury car and even with the upgrades I done to it, it still road smooth and run really good lol...

Owned a stock white '80 Ghia in the mid '80s. Enjoyed everything about it. Had to give it up after I got married. Would have put in a 390 built up to a 454 if I'd kept it. Wanted to replace the stock mags an with a set of Ford 15" Continental ones that looked like the originals. With some low profile tires it would have kept the stock appearence. I will be watching more of your videos.
