Its probably the best tutorial on building a bike from ground up,from scratch . Thank you. You made it easy,understandable and most importantly ,informative. Exactly how a tutorial and info should be. 🥰. So now i will follow this very close so even a swedish knucklehead like me understands. I think many other chanels should learn ftom you on how to make a tutorial. :) thank you.

I have a compressor, but no adapter for Presta valves, so I just use a hand pump to seat tubeless tires. I wanted to make sure I could do it any time, anywhere. The key is to just take a strap of some kind, even a piece of rope will do, and bind the tire right down the center. It will seat with just a couple of pumps. Pop the rope/strap off and finish pumping. No big deal. Beautiful bike btw, I love it!

Beautiful beautiful paint work!!!! Kudo's to Niners painter. Years and years ago I painted. Back then the only way to get that much gloss and depth was multiple layers of hand rubbed lacquer. I'm sure paint technology has gotten better, but still a beautiful job and I'm sure there's still plenty of labor involved to get such a nice end product.

I stripped a couple crank axles like that one with small splines. I "upgraded" to the type of axle spline that has smooth swoopy crank to axle interface but the drive side worked itself off after 50 miles and doesn't have clamps, it was pressure fit. I drilled and filed a square hole in the center of the crank side, used a 3/8" carriage bolt, a union nut, and a hex keyed countersunk bolt with washer pulling in from the other side. Crimp the thread on the carriage bolt at the depth you want the union nut to stop at.

Re: tubeless..... I ran tubeless for a season, with a Stan's kit. But before all that, I did an experiment -- I coated the inside of my tires with automotive fix-a-flat, and let it air-dry (an hour or so). Absolutely airtight. Went over 5 weeks without needing even 5 psi of top-off. Only did it the one season because my bottle of Stan's got destroyed, and feeding 6 kids was a higher priority.

Lining the tire logo up with the valve stem is definitely a thing. I do the same thing (sorta) with cars - the manufacturer logo on the wheel needs to be right-side up with the valve stem at 6 o'clock on the wheel.....and the locking lug nut goes opposite the valve stem. You've reminded me that I need to bleed the old-school Hayes brakes on my vintage 4 Banger......

I never use star bits in forks as they're crap. I've found a while back that there is a skewer nut which will go all the way through the centre of the forks head tube and screws into a nut inserted into the bottom of the forks head tube pulling the whole top half firmly down. That way, you know, when you're tightening it up, you are actually tightening it up and not simply pulling the star nut up. Also, what a few companies are doing these days is to use that idea but instead of just a straight bolt through skewer, the top half is actually a mini trail-tool. I believe OneUp have recently changed the design of their headtube mounted toolkit system to this sort of design too...which is a whole lot better than their previous method of having to tap some threads into the top of your fork's head tube. This way, you still have options rather than bunging a semi-difficult/damaging to remove and annoying to fit in any case star nut...which basically always works loose in any case.

Pipe cutters take twice as long but do a much better job of a clean cut on forks. Pro tip: Shove a small rag into the bottom of the fork crown. This will catch all of the saving and prevent them from falling into your fork seals.

Honestly, I don't think I have seen a prettier frame. So well done and we'll designed. Syd, fantastic seeing you get r done and putting together your own rig. Never fails that there is still an element of realness even in a bike build vid, to show the challenges one might face in doing a full build. Appreciate the thoroughly done build project, and the helpful commentary from you both. Macky, maybe a reverse paint job of the same pattern for your next ride???

Welcome back. Might be worth running the dropper post outer before installing the BB ... Access to that bend.
@sydfixesbikes
@sydfixesbikes 2 жыл бұрын
On this frame (and most frames with threaded button brackets) there's actually no access to inside the bike from where the BB threads in. And this frame also has continuous internal housing runs... But on frames that do have internal access there, that's a great idea!
@GHinWI
@GHinWI 2 жыл бұрын
Haha, I’m in the middle of this exact thing. Had to push out a perfectly good bb, which sadly ruined it, to get the dropper housing routed-it was just impossible otherwise. Waiting for my new bb to arrive now.

After you tighten the crank arm pinch bolts you want to check for any play in the crank spindle. If there's play, you'll want to loosen the pinch bolts and then using the BeCraFTS tool to adjust the spindle endcap bolt until there is no more play and the cranks spin relatively freely.

lol, a while back in the late 2000's, I bought a super lightweight CF seat post which I overtightened. At that young age, torque meant nothing. I went ridding and 5 minutes into the trail, the seat post snapped, leaving a sharp piece of CF pointing straight up. I had to pedal out of saddle for a half hour to get home. That same day, I bought a torque wrench.

2 years ago I cut my new RockShox SID ($875) too short. Ahaaaaaa!! It was devastating! When I marked the cut line on the tube then cut it off, I realized there were 2 lines on the tube - and one was a “False Line” caused by whatever caused it in the fitting process. Anyway, I cut on the wrong line and made it 2 inches too short. I ended up buying a new steerer tube and having by local shop install it. $400 later, I got a 2nd chance. Now I have the most expensive RockShox SID in the world.

Great video. One thing that bothered me is when seeing people with a torque click style wrench not grasping in the center of the handle most torque wrenches are length specific. So when you slide your hand closer to the the square drive you are increasing the amount of torque at the square drive.

Wouldn’t you want a little wider tire since you are running a wider rim? I’m not even 5min in and already loving this. My heart started racing when you were holding the frame up. I would be freaking out with excitement. I have a carbon build in the works…waiting on my frame. It’s not supposed to be done until May and I check my email about 10 times a day already. As always, great video.

Thanks for sharing this adventure! Why do you attach the brake hose to the lever using a vice instead of putting the lever on the handlebars?
@sydfixesbikes
@sydfixesbikes 2 жыл бұрын
Because if the lever is on the handlebars, the oil that's in the lever will spill out! Unless you can get your handlebars to be perpendicular to the ground (which is hard 😁).

Awesome to watch this beautiful bike come together! I just had one quibble... at 23:57 I see you holding the torque wrench by the shaft, up closer to to the head. This kind of click-style torque wrench won't give you an accurate reading unless you hold it by the handle and let the spring-loaded clicker do its job. You could very easily accidentally overtighten bolts that way. Great job overall, though... it looks amazing, and I'm looking forward to seeing you riding it!
