I'm an EE, not an ME, but: I'd suggest that the torque spec is based on additional factors beyond bolt size & thread count, such as vibration under load. I doubt any engineer manually calculated 26 vs18 lb-ft. I suspect those numbers came from simulation. One might argue that, when the LS2 was designed, *many* years after the LS1, software had improved, resulting in a less aggressive torque spec. But, alas, only Brad would know. (Where Brad is the unfortunate intern who got assigned to spend his entire internship determining the necessary torque for five bolts.)

I will go through the initial startup with existing tune - then I will tune it using HP Tuners as soon as the weather permits (cold here in the Midwest).

@@Toys4Life when I bought my '06 3LT, it had a terrible tune in it, so I had it tuned by a respected LS expert (3rd generation drag racer) here in Idaho. He uses HP Tuners, and the car runs awesome now. I looked at HP Tuners and it seemed like it was complicated to use. Is it?

I like your logic on the gear pull but just a thought, what about Lucas oil stabilizer. It's thick and sticky like the gear oil but designed to mix with oil. It seems to me like a good mix of regular oil and grease oil logic. Any reasons this wouldn't be a good idea?
