These washers were sold for many years in Brazil under the brand Brastemp. I had one just like this that lasted about 15 years. Thank you for the good memories.

In the 1963 Doris Day film " The Thrill Of It All", Doris is asked to be the spokeswoman for Happy Soap. In one scene she does a commercial for the detergent and there are several Whirlpool washers similar to this around her. There is a photo of that scene online.

That is a beautiful washer! Why can’t they build washing machines like this again?

What a GREAT VIDEO!!! Love the 1960s washing machine control panels.. They were always so cool looking with the crime knobs, fancy buttons, and the best were the control panels that lit up like this one.. Love it . What a great vintage washing machine.. Whirlpool, Kenmore, these things are the best.. and madet to last.. I loved watching the agitator go back and forth, and the great roll over action. These really got your clothes clean the first time.. Notice the H E CRAP today... H E washers don't use enough water or agitation, and take so darn long... They SERIOUSLY need to bring these back some day... When I was a kid and my mother did laundry, I was always lifting the lid so I could watch the agitator...... Ah.. childhood memories...❤

I am from England and if we could buy top loading washing machine like this I would have one, the only advantage of a front loader is they have a really fast spin, my washing machine spins at 1800rpm which is great for using a dryer, but capacity and easy of loading a top loader is better

The U.S. Imported top loaders for awhile (they still may?)

Wow! You actually have clean clothes after this gets done. How well does it spin them out?

I have a suggestion. How about getting a tripod? Since you said you’re very busy. It would free up your hands to do other things while it’s running. I know a few other youtubers do that
@Gsohoover4 жыл бұрын
I am planning on that with a better quality camera. Thanks for the suggestion.

So Tyler. Is this one a keeper also ?

Yes it is, for sure.

You have really overloaded that machine. Your loads should be about half the amount you have.

@@holdenvtseries2274 You can tell by the way the clothes bunch up at the top. Also the clothes should actually stay below the water. Less room for the water to circulate around the fabrics. It's not the agitator beating against the clothes that doing the cleaning it's the soapy water working through the weave of the clothes. Yes the clothes are being beaten against the agitator more but there's actually less soapy water making its way through the fabric. And you're putting more wear on your machine and your clothes. These machines from the 60's are not the large capacity machines you may be thinking of. The standard capacity was 12 to 16lbs. I would say that four pairs of heavy jeans would be a full load.
@michaelguess33152 жыл бұрын
@@holdenvtseries2274 I wouldn't know. But how old is your mum's washer? In America most washers in the early 60's were about 12-14 lb capacity. Large capacity started appearing sometime maybe 1966-1968. I remember it was a big deal when they came out with 18 & 20 lb capacity. If you mum's washer was from the 80's or newer it's more than likely considered large capacity compared to a washer from the early 60's.
@michaelguess33152 жыл бұрын
@@holdenvtseries2274 This machine would be equal to about 5.5 - 6kg. 8kg would certainly be considered large capacity.

@@holdenvtseries2274 I don't think so either.

What is suds lock...never heard of it
@patcola73354 жыл бұрын
More specifically it is a suds buildup between the inner spin basket and outer tub. The foaming will actually slow the tub down when spinning . Not good for a washer.
@Gsohoover4 жыл бұрын
Yes, plagued these belt drives for sure.
@janelynjohnson51474 жыл бұрын
Okay thankyou for the answers ...never knew that would affect the spin...
@seana8064 жыл бұрын
pat cola only Whirlpool belt drive washers that are somewhat impossible to suds lock are the portable belt drive washers like the one I have and one time I purposely used a heaping scoop of detergent and there was a suds cake but since it gets up to speed fast the suds are immediately obliterated since it goes from 0 to 800 something rpm in about 8 seconds or so. It would more than likely suds lock on the delicate cycle since it has a spin speed of about 525 rpm like the regular spin speed on the full size belt drive washers.
@patcola73354 жыл бұрын
@@seana806 Whirlpool was a quirky company in some respects. They could make a portable belt drive spin @ 800 rpm but didn't for their big machines . There would to have been a major redesign I assume. They made a 29" wide cabinet as well as a 24" wide cabinet and the tub in the 29" inch was not much bigger. Though I understand now why the cabinets were wider. Also the D shaped opening and of course the wig wag mechanism that was surprisingly reliable . Their overall sounds were unique to the brand. There was no mistaking a Whirlpool/Kenmore washer in operation with just about any other washer. Truly no washer collection could ever be complete without one of these. These things were tanks ! The machine's body was part of the suspension system in these American classics. These and Newton made Maytag are my overall favorites.
