A load of colors in the 1962 Whirlpool. I think it did quite well! The surgilator is a great agitator. Thank you for watching!

That brush lint filter worked so well and made the machine more exciting.

My aunt had a whirlpool convertible washer with this agitator,it was white with the metal cap and her lint filter was also white,it was a full size machine.brown in color and had a metal handle that went across the front with front controls.it also had more of a whine when it washed

Not too noisy, not wasting time sensing, pausing , balancing itself before it spins or does anything . Just getting the job done and not taking over an hour or more to do it.

BZZZZZZZ CLICK KA-LUNK WOO WOO WOO WOO. Gotta love it. Nothing like it. The machines back then had, you might say, their own personality. They all had their own style, their own sound, their own way of doing things. These new machine act the same, sound the same............AND BREAK DOWN THE SAME!!!!
@patcola73354 жыл бұрын
These were Rube Goldberg machines but they had such character I thought . No other washers had the woo woo quite like Whirlpool/Kenmore and the click,clunk buzz like these washers did. I still remember my mom's 1963 Kenmore 600 quite well. Loved how fast these washers filled also. The mid 50s Whirlpool machines with the raised controls and the center timer dials were IMO some of the best looking machines this company made. Very Maytag like BEFORE that style became iconic for Maytag.

Well, for what it’s worth, I grew up with three different Sears Kenmores (a 1967-Speed/1-Cycle Model 300, a 1978 2-Speed/4-Cycle Model 70 that was EXACTLY the SAME MODEL that was renovated by Eugene of Lorain Furniture & Appliance, and then another 1967 Sears Kenmore - this time, a 2-Speed/3-Cycle Model 600), all were belt-driven Whirlpool built machines, and as I recalled, they were all good cleaners as the agitation was aggressive, but the spin cycles were like so-so, but do lag behind when compared WP/KM direct-drive machine. A WP/KM Direct-Drive Washer would agitate and spin SO MUCH FASTER, than a belt-drive one. I definitely remember these old belt-drives making a distinctive “woo-woo” sound when they were agitating. Definitely, a throwback to the good old days. And what I like about these old dinosaurs, these “joints” ran FOREVER. If you think a Speed Queen can run for 25 years or so?? Then get an old belt-driven Whirlpool or Sears Kenmore. I betcha Whirlpool had something to say about that then (and even now, a LOT of old machines are still running now). Only a Speed Queen or a vintage Maytag or vintage GE would rival a belt-drive Whirlpool/Sears Kenmore in durability and reliability. -Charles-

They weren’t the best extractors but they were built very well and they washed better than anything else on the market and cost less than a concurrent Maytag or Speed Queen.

This is the Ford Fairlane, or Chevy Bel Air of washing machines. Really like the chrome colored top of the agitator, complete with the Whirlpool “W” logo, and “Super Surgilator”. This agitator top is like the “knockoff” of this era of machine. The basket and clothes are sort of like the whitewall tire and rim. Guess these machines are what hippies liked to wash clothes in. The chrome fabric softener dispenser is also really 👍 nice, not to say somebody could use it as an ashtray. I like the endless cascade of water 💧 coming out of the dispenser below this. The water is being indefinitely circulated, at least, until the drain cycle. I really like the motor noise, and “Super Surgilator” is a very worthy name to go with the noise of the motor. Also, to mention, speed selector buttons, and lighted glass panels. It’s like the slot machine, or jukebox of washing machines, and I bet quite a few people had them through the 1960’s, and 1970’s. I like how you can pause the agitator while filling and emptying the machine.I observed the pause feature, as the motor continues to run 🏃♀️.Ya should have one ☝️ washer and dryer set with coin slots on them, so when ya invite people over, you’d get a little more profit. I really like this washer a lot, and hope ya come up with a great 👍 number of videos more on them.

By the different model numbers, it looks 👍 like you've got a collection of these washing machines, each coming from a different time, but the same era. The motors in them are 3 quarters of 1 🐎 horsepower. Agitators were a LOT better, and you could select agitation, and spin speeds to your clothing care. This cannot be ✔ done on newer machines. I do 👎 not know what Suds 🔐 Lock is. I've never heard of it until your 📹 videos, which I learned about in June of this year. I think it's a feature that holds the suds action down. These are such nice machines, that I don't want to 👀 any of these beauties scrapped or destroyed. I really hate 👀 seeing 📹 videos of somebody removing the tub from one of these machines, only to use it as a 🔥 burn barrel. Your friend, Jeff.

Question to people with knowledge of which is better. Is the belt drive suspension considered crude ? I ask because everything hung off of the cabinet of the WP/KM machines. The baseplate doesn't go all the way to the bottom of the machine. Are machines with baseplates connected to the cabinet better? I guess I answer my own question because modern Speed Queen uses the latter and is rock steady. Another oddity is Whirlpool made 24" units with slightly smaller tubs. Why did they need a 29" cabinet then ? In any case their sounds and that D shaped tub make them my favorites overall right there with Newton built Maytag.
@Gsohoover4 жыл бұрын
The suspension in these can't handle high spin speeds well. It is an odd design, but it works!
